That's it for me. I will resign at this point. Just too much good play from you and bad luck for me especially early when it mattered with the draw of the Ghandi/weather card on turn 2. That forced me into desperation moves that were just really just wild stabs in the dark. If it wasn't a tournament game I would have asked for a reset as like I have mentioned there is no coming back for the allies if they can't at least set defenses in the CBI theater. You played great and depending on the cards you get in your next couple of matches I figure you are the favorite to win the tournament. My two losses have been yourself and Jay Meyers who is also very good player who you also successfully ran the CBI blitz on. A pattern? Yeah the Akagi move was a good but a bit cheesey. There's any number of ways I could rationalize the USN forces at Kavieng being unable to react. But as the rules are implemented for that offensive, it doesn't meet my sense of "realisticness" either. I was wondering myself at Midway if you would go all in or just enough to make the CV crit possible. I don't think there's really a totally correct answer beyond making that 10% failure possible. |

Excellent move. Another one that I think is a little bit on the unbelievable side other than from a rules perspective as it relates to parking a carrier out in the middle of the ocean to block a line of communication to a HQ when there is no BH or possible special reaction. Good comments on chess versus EOTS. I played chess when I was younger as well but then I discovered board games by Avalon Hill and the rest is history. |

That's right, I have played Kondo and 2nd Operational Phase two times each. Would have preferred to bring other cards back, but I've had some weak military event hands in turns 2 and 3. The Bridge over River Kwai is another very powerful card, situationally. Perhaps overpowered as you say. Not seen it in play enough myself. It's definitely paid itself back several times over in this game. In terms of opinion, I do like games with some significant random swing. If we watered down the cards too much, I would find the game stale and too formulaic. There's a reason I don't play chess. I hate it and love it when EOTS randomly throws you a bad situation and forces you to react. Hate the unfairness. Love the variance. I tell myself it's theme appropriate when playing wargames, because miltiary operations are hardly fair. |

OC: 2 EC: 0 Message from Allies: On the surface this seems like a really good gotcha card for the allies but if you really look at it deeply its really not very useful except in a few edge cases. One of those might be turn 2 when the Japanese are trying to take Rangoon however if the Japanese use their last card to take Rangoon in all but edge conditions the allied player would be out of cards. If could be useful if the Japanese are trying to make progress in the CBI and the allies have enough ground forces to matter. However in most cases the Japanese player is going to pin any such reacting units or bomb those steps off the board after gaming air superiority. Against a Japanese player who knows what they are going this is just another operation only 2 card. Same for the other A/N surprise card. The Japanese player almost never attacks with to create a large A/N battle once the allies get any significant force navy force on the board. It's just not worth the risk. In other top strategy has progressed to the point that these are really not very useful cards at all. Just an analysis. What am I missing? The other critical side effect that the designer made when he increased the range of the Japanese south HQ from 12 to 13 means that it can now cover the Maldive Islands and the allies can never put forces into the theater if what happens very often now. He was trying to address keeping forces in the south DEI in supply when at Timor but it backfired. He will claim that allies should put forces in the Maldives to keep that from happening but as you have seen multiple times when allies are vastly overwhelmed in the CBI and there is very little that they can do it change the equation. In other words he made it worse not better. Just my opinion. |
