Good Sep2 move Marcus. Now that the playing field is constrained at the far end, two things to consider, each that will take a couple of turns to do: 1. Rommel could now be more valuable back by Msus to help speed up your November reinforcements. I have not counted the hexes, but he may be able to get them to the front a turn sooner, and that is worth a hex count 2. with the heavy armour the Brits bring on Nov 1, they can do a 3-1 on one of your Italians at Tobruch, and break out there. If you want to prevent that, it is worth starting to send a 2-3-4 back. 3. also, because of the heavy armour coming in, consider if your Nov 1 attack (if you make one) will leave you in a poor defensive position |

Several thoughts, maybe right, maybe not. 1. You are not getting much supply, so not much more you can do than you are, but you did have a slender opportunity a few turns ago 2. Going back to your June 1 turn, if you had centered your germans and Rommel on the escarpment with the 21st division, your would have had a very strong threat that I would have difficulty defending well. From there, you could have (after tidying up my blocker) centered them where Rommel is now, and had an Italian guarding the coast road where your 7 is now and had a strong triple threat going on the last two turns - tobruch, the coast road, and the desert. 3. if you kill a 2-2-6 of mine early in the game, you can defend Tobruch with two 2-3-4 units (H24 and H26) and you don't have to worry about my getting a 3-1 on a breakout. So, I would have to do low odds with AB = AE. That frees up a unit. 4. If you had another supply, with me falling back as fast as I did, I did not have enough units to defend the gap between J62 and the Quattara depression, and also the coast road, against a really strong mobile force. 5. Currently, you do not have quite enough factors threatening either the coast road or the deep desert, when straddling the escarpment with A LOT would give you enough to go how you wish to go. I offer these thoughts, not only for future games, but this game could easily go back and forth some, and a very similar scanrio may arise again. |

Sorry I deleted your supply unit. Clever of me, eh?Just make a blank counter that says "Supply 2" for it. It is bizarre, for every unit on the board, except your supply 1 and supply 2, there is no delete option wen you right click. But for supply 1 and 2, there is a delete option, and if you fat finger while clicking on supply dump, you can delete it instead. |

Yes, because Tobruch is not in your ZOC, so when the British unit makes that move that is when they first move into your ZOC. Just like your disruptive retreat forward 1-3s in Stalingrad, a similar approach can be used by the Brits here. |

If I move one of the 3 units surrounding Tobruch out of those hexes, can any of the units in Tobruch move out? For example, if I vacate G24, can any British units move to G24 if I still occupy H25? |

Good job. I gave you that supply unit last turn because, if you did not get it, I could just stay on the escarpment line a couple turns, and not have to worry much about my flanks or the east, 'cuz you don't have supply to send on any thrust that way. It really changes the complexion of the game, and for learning I thought it was better to play something that did not hinder your stellar ability to maneuver. |

Yes, please do bring one on. Your math is better than mine, but I reckon getting sunk three in a row is pretty unlikely. Like, 0.8%. It could happen ... in this game anything can happen, I'll see the Axis go without supply for five turns sometimes. But I reckon its better practise to have a supply unit every now and then. Plus, in July you go to a 50% sunk probability ... |

I see my replies did not go through ACTS. So here are the germane ones: And to follow on, even if Benghazi was a port (which it is not), you were not on the hex at the start of your turn, so did not control it, so nothing would have been able to land. That is just to let you know how it works when you get to a real port :) On Sunday, 1 October 2023 at 10:25:59 am GMT-4, kevin brown No. Benghazi is not a port. The ports are your home base, and Tobruch (if you control them) |

With removing your isolated unit, does that mean I can bring a supply unit in there should my roll be successful? |
7 | 10/1/2023 7:15:00 AM | Turn 2 | Marcus | Message |
Sent my 2nd move. My comments below: My guess is not getting a supply unit with the first roll can really cause the Axis some issues early on. Then again, maybe it's not so bad if I get one next roll. I would be lost without those replays you guys sent over, thank you. It helps me get a feel for it at the start. Question for all of you - We all know in Waterloo how much PAA counters play a role in the game. How much do British counter attacks play a role in AK? It would seem by their lack of units early that maybe this would come into play more in the mid/late game, but I really don't know how this will typically play out. |

Hi Marcus, solid first move. I tend to move the three small Italians to K5 and Rommel to F5 on the first turn. That way I can replace Ariete in the isolation with a 2, and bring him 8 hexes out through the escarpment gap into the desert to cover the German flank on turn 2. Also, I can bring two Italian units all the way down the coast road and out of the escarpment line, so the coast road is basically cleared for the guys at Benghazi to come up. I just travel rommel with the italians on F6 and E6, then retrun him to the Msus area, if possible giving the second supply a boost, too. That is jsut food for thought. |
2 | 9/26/2023 2:35:00 PM | Turn 1 | Greg | Message |
I have one more hint to offer on using 1-1-6s as blockers for defenders behind them. In open terrain a 1-1-6 can limit the odds on a 4-4-7 by reducing the number of attacking hexes. For instance, if a 4-4-7 can be attacked from only one square, the best the Axis can do is get 18 factors into that square. That means an exchange is a possible result. Since the Axis has relatively few units, the Axis will avoid exchange possibilities. |
