I can't se a likely way that Jackson won't have at least 7VPs, so I'll concede there. On to Jackson's March. This is one where you get to move in turn 1 while I watch/ The scenario is about getting to places, leaving places behind and destroying railroad stations, while keeping an eye on losses. |

>Thanks for showing me the assault and grand assault procedure. In my head was the old way of doing it which was basically roll against Corps Leader, roll against Army leader with no subsequent counting in of contributing units. I find I have to work carefully through the rules as my faint deep memories do not exactly align with them. If you have a big battle concentrating on a hex or two the Corps/Army actions are crucial. |

5 movement points for AP Hill: 2 to move out of ZOC along the road to 1622 and then 2 more along the road to 1423 where he stops with Jackson in the clear. If you had rolled low on the Grand assault and Ricketts had joined the attack the results would have been only a -1 drm and with outrolling me by 1 it would have resulted in a D for the defenders and a 2D for the attackers with that combat roll. Thanks for showing me the assault and grand assault procedure. |

137 | 11/4/2023 7:07:00 PM | Turn 3 | Union | Message |
So that's a 1 - 4 so - 3. !! Defender gets a -, attacker a 2D. Schurz is flipped to disorganised, goes up to F4. |

135 | 11/4/2023 6:57:00 PM | Turn 3 | Union | Message |
Step 7 of attack procedure: Combat Values are Schurz 6 v Jackson 18. 1:3 ratio gives -2 to the roll. Step 8. Modifiers. Tactical Assault +1, Sigel (initiating assault) is a 2, Jackson is a 4 so -2. Artillery. Schurz 3, Hill 4. In Rolling terrain that gives a -1 modifier. Cumulative modifiers to attacker roll: +1 and -5 so -4. Defender roll modifiers are terrain based and none apply. |
134 | 11/4/2023 6:38:00 PM | Turn 3 | Union | Message |
And there isn't. So just the Shurz v Jackson assault. [Should probably made the assault by Ricketts, then adding in Sigel, but never mind.] |

132 | 11/4/2023 6:32:00 PM | Turn 3 | Union | Message |
Sigels' Command is 4. Subtract that 3 and 1 unit can attack. [In the original rules it was more generous: on a 1-4 ALL would have contributed.] Schurz and his 6 manpower will be the chosen unit, getting a 1:3 odds unless Ricketts joins in. |
131 | 11/4/2023 6:26:00 PM | Turn 3 | Union | Die roll request |
Request: 6-sided die x 1 3 Message from Union: All of Sigel's I Corps in 1521 will try to assault (bottom left page 12 in what I think are the latest rules). This roll is subject to the 2 bullets under 5 Roll for command [it was more straightforward in the original rules, which is why I had to read up] If it fails they all get F1 and the impulse is over. If the roll succeeds it will be on to see if Ricketts contributes in a Grand Assault using Pope's rating for another roll. |

I'll also pass and end the turn. TN 2 End Recovery phase: I don't think units entrenching will have any effect on this game as it would take two recovery phases to complete and entrenchment. Units at fatigue level 0 or 1 have their disorganized markers flipped back to organized. This will affect only the 1 ME Union cavalry as I see it. Units with fatigue level 0 or 1 which are on their exhausted sides are flipped to their normal side. This does not affect anyone that I see. No units have demoralized markers at this time and no units are at fatigue level 3 or 4. Then all units have their fatigue level reduced by up to 3 levels. This will remove all the fatigue levels. Next we go to turn 3, August 10th, 1862 |

In a big scenario you can end up with peripheral units that have possible moves left in them towards the end of a turn while everything close to the action is pretty much done. At the table, and no doubt online, it is reasonable to start taking 2 or 3 goes at a time so long as it is those out the way units. |

That die roll of 3 is modified by -2 for the small force of 1 SP and gives AP Hill a loss of 1 movement point. 1 ME cavalry gets 1 fatigue and is disorganized and must retreat 4 to 6 hexes. Even though AP Hill has 2 more movement points I will stop in 1522. |

Request: 6-sided die x 1 3 Message from Confederates: Crawford's brigade gets a 3DR* result which eliminates the last 2 manpower of that brigade while AP Hill gets an "a" result which they will use to advance into 1622. AP Hill has used only 4 of its 8 movement points at this point. They will move 1 more to 1522 and would attack and eliminate the 1 ME cavalry if they don't perform a cavalry retreat. This roll is for the 1 ME cavalry retreat. |

Request: 6-sided die x 2 2 1 Message from Confederates: That was a good march roll by Jackson and AP Hill and Ewell get 6 + 2 for a total of 8 movement points. Jackson will stay with AP Hill. First, Ewell will lead his men through Robertson's cavalry 5 movement points to 1223 and take up a position behind the creek and stop. Next, Jackson with AP Hill will move 4 movement points to 1523 and try to eliminate / capture Crawford's brigade. I will do a column of route attack (-3 modifier) against Crawford. Ratio modifier is 18 to 1 which gives the maximum +13 to the attacking Confederates. Tactical modifier is +4 for Jackson's 5 to Crawford's 1. Artillery modifier is NE. Net is +14 drm for the attacking Confederates and +0 for the defending Union. 1st roll for the attacking marching Confederates with +14. 2nd roll for the defending Union with +0. |

That was a bad march roll for Augur. On the map you moved him 2 spaces to 1322 instead of 1 space to 1221 as you stated. I'll fix that in my move. In looking over the recovery section, I think Robertson and Bayard cavalry should have had their counters flipped to the exhausted side from the end of last turn. They had been a F3 or F4 and the recovery sequence #4 I think we missed that. I'll also try to fix that on my next move. |

Outrolled by 3 again but the +8 becomes a +5 giving an Ea result to the attacking Confederates and a 2DR to the defending Union. Crawford loses 2 SPs and goes down to 2 manpower. D result disorganizes the unit and gives it 3 fatigue to an F3. R result gives a rout and demoralization level 1. Crawford must retreat 4 to 6 spaces. AP Hill and Jackson advance into 1125 still at F1. |

Jackson gets 4 + 2 for 6 movement points for AP Hill and Winder which go to F1. Jackson will stay with AP Hill and they will move 4 movement points to 1126 and spend the last 2 movement points doing a normal march attack against Crawford at 1225. I think the flank attack bonus of +1 applies since 4 of Crawford's adjacent spaces are in the ZOC of undemoralized Confederate units and the 5th space is Buzzard Mt. which is an impassable terrain (but the mountain reduces the +2 to a +1). See Flank attacks 1, 2 & 3. The artillery modifier would be NE. The ratio modifier would be +3 (AP Hill's 18 to Crawford's 4 gives 4-1 odds). The tactical modifier would be +4 (Jackson's +5 to Crawford's +1). The normal march attack gives a +0 modifier. Net final modifier would be +8 as I see it. Winder will march his brigade 4 spaces to 0924 School house and stop. |
