87 6/6/2024 11:54:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message In any case, I will send you a map image as of the start of the Strategy Phase, so we can ensure we are both looking at the same map.
86 6/6/2024 11:53:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message Mike,
hello. Mystery solved: I had incorrectly moved 1 SP from Fort Monroe to Richmond, instead of from Norfolk as you indicated, during your Strategic Movement of the Summer 1861. So, ok, 1 SP is at Fort Monroe and General A. Johnston has arrived there.
This only leaves General Beauregard out.
I propose that General Beauregard is assigned it randomly to one of the three locations you earlier indicated (as I think only one leader can arrive at Fort Monroe, right?) if that works for you?
Thanks!
85 6/6/2024 10:58:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Move 16 has 1 sp located in Ft Monroe. 71 is where I show that Ft Monroe has LOC to a resource space putting it in supply.
84 6/6/2024 10:56:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Ok, I didn't realize 10.23 was only available to USA. So the Ft. Sumter unit returns to the fort.

Below we established that Fort Monroe was in supply, so my AJ placement seems fine.

Beauregard has disappeared from my map completely. Can I get you to send your map again as I'm afraid mine might be missing other things?

Assuming that is all that is wrong, I think having Beauregard placed in 1 of the 4 locations I specified for the other generals at random is reasonable. Thoughts?
83 6/6/2024 9:52:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message ... or if it makes more sense, re-roll all 5... your call.
82 6/6/2024 8:52:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message Mike,
hello. There is also an issue with the placement of Generals: General Beauregard was not placed, and also, per 10.61 "[...] A leader may not be placed in a space that does not have a LOC or a friendly SP".
In essence Generals A. Johnston and Beauregard need a destination.
I am happy for you to select their destinations and roll just these two.
Thanks!
81 6/6/2024 7:00:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message Mike,
hello. Strategic movement is at point 10 in the rules.
80 6/6/2024 6:28:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message Mike,
hello, and thanks: glad to hear all worked out well.
On the Strategic Movement, if I recall correctly moving SPs must use rail unless going to an Army. If that is so, then the Fort Sumter to Charleston move cannot be made... Let me know if you agree, and in the meantime I will try and see if I can find the rules reference for this.
Thanks

72 5/29/2024 4:55:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Mike,
hello. Yes, you are correct and I agree.
Thanks!
71 5/29/2024 11:38:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message 8.1 Lines of Communication
A unit is “in supply” if it has a Line of Communication (LOC). A unit has a LOC if it can trace a path of spaces to an ultimate supply source.

Ultimate supply sources for the Confederacy are:
1) Undestroyed Confederate Resource Spaces
2) Open Blockade Runner Ports [10.52]

To be valid, a Confederate ultimate supply sources must have a LOC to another undestroyed Resource Space or open Blockade Runner Port.

10.52 BLOCKADE RUNNER PORTS:
Blockade Runner Ports are those Southern ports that have a blockade runner symbol and through which blockade reinforcements are received. A Blockade Runner Port is either open or closed. An open port is one which

is (1) Confederate-controlled, (2) whose associated coastal fort, if any, is
also Confederate-controlled, and (3) has an LOC to another Resource
space. Any port which does not meet all three of these conditions
is closed.

So this reads to me that Norfolk is open because it is CSA controlled, is associated with Ft. Monroe which is also CSA controlled, and has LOC to a Resource space (Richmond).

And Richmond is in supply because it has LOC to Norfolk which is an open Blockade Runner port.

Let me know your thoughts and if my understanding of the rules is proper.

70 5/29/2024 11:28:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I believe that Norfolk, Richmond, and Fort Monroe team up to keep Richmond in supply

Message from Union:
General McClellan with General Banks and 4 SPs attempts to intercept (General Rosecrans remains at Manassas VA with 1 SP).
(I am a bit rusty with the rules on this point, but reading from 5.81:
“One or the minimal amount of SPs required may be left behind if the restrictions in 5.29 or 5.34 would be violated.”
I interpret this as: General McClellan is intercepting as a Corps, therefore can only bring along one General, so that per 5.34 one General must remain behind , and 1 SP must therefore also remain behind.
In this specific case, intercepting with 4 or 5 SPs has no appreciable influence on the battle drms or odds, but please let me know if this reading of the rules is consistent with your interpretation).
Thanks!

East: 8 SPs arrive at Washington DC (10 SPs);
Central: 6 SPs arrive at Cincinnati OH (6 SPs);
West: 4 SPs arrive at Cairo IL (5 SPs).
27 5/15/2024 11:01:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message Interesting, I thought that players could choose during SW stage in what order things resolve. Reading the steps under 3.42, I do agree that forts are an exception to this.

SW:
USA 100- +1 (fort) +2 flip = 103+
CSA 100+ -1 (fort) -3 flip = 96-

SW:
USA 103+ -5 (Raid PA) -3 flip = 95-
CSA 96- +5 (Raid PA) +2 flip = 103+

This all agrees with your writeup, I just like this format for when I search the log.

25 5/15/2024 10:47:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message Mike,
Hello, and I hope all is well. Nice move! Two quick notes:
1) There are no Confederate SPs at Columbus GA at set-up: did you mean to transfer 1 SP from Columbus KY to Culpeper as part of the Concentration Event? Thanks for a confirmation.
2) On the SW changes, the capture of Forts St. Philip / Jackson occurs first (in phase B1).
For the US, SW first changes by +1 for the capture and by +2 for Changing Fortunes of War, from 100(-) SW to 103(+) SW, and then suffers the raid (in phase B2), with a -5 SW loss for the raid and a -3 SW loss for Changing Fortunes of War, from 103(+) SW to 95(-) SW.
For the Confederates, SW first changes by -1 for the capture and by -3 for Changing Fortunes of War, from 100(+) SW to 96(-) SW, and then gains from the raid (in phase B2), with a +5 SW gain for the raid and a +2 SW gain for Changing Fortunes of War, from 96(-) SW to 103(+) SW.
Thanks for a confirmation, and I will proceed with reinforcements.
