Hi Domenico. It was a pleasure to finally play against you. Your FTP paper from years ago was so detailed and in-depth that people have commented very favorably on your analysis. We thank you for your contribution to the FTP community. Yes, this game was a threat prevention defense. Every time I start a fire somewhere, you immediately try to put it out. Your defense was excellent. You got all the discarder cards, coupled with a steady supply of reinforcement cards, you were able to blunt my offense threats. My only saving grace was that I got several Campaign Cards which started several fire that forced you to choose which one to put out first. I was then able to capitalize on the weak links. You were very diligent in maintaining your LOC and SP attrition. But the thing is that for the first 2 years of war, it is a SP-centric warfare. Once Grant appears in 1863, it transitions to a SW-centric conflict. CSA cannot afford to lose 10+ SW per turn without gaining any SW back. You SR a lot of SP to AOT, wanting to overrun LA and kick out Pope. You did that too well, as I thought Pope can at least defend Jackson for a while. But when Grant has about 30 SP at his disposal, Richmond and AOW cannot hold with just 12 sp. You need at least 20 SP to have a chance. Grant has +5 drm, he just need 50% chance to inflict max damage, and AOW would be whittled down to skeleton. But die rolls were favorable to you, which allowed you to hold out a bit longer. CSA just cannot afford to lose Richmond and VA given the situation. That is about a 60+ SW swing. Take care, and I hope to play you in the future. If you ever get a chance to come to WBC, it would be great to meet you in person. |

Stephane, hello. James won this one by a country mile! James, it was a pleasure and a challenge to play with you. Your play was brilliant throughout and I learned a lot. Thanks for taking the time and I hope we meet again on the field soon: I aspire to give you a more challenging game next time. Thank you! Domenico |

speaking of looking too quickly... in post #245, Union 1 sp attack AOW... Attackers’ drm = +0 and you rolled a 1 ... it's a "0" result on the attacker column, so AOW did not suffer a loss... earlier I glanced quickly on my phone and saw a 2, not realizing that was Wheeler CB intercept... I am at my desk, double checking the map and ACTS rolls... so net result is that AOW is at n6 now, not n5. |

no sweat... it happens... but no interception yet... so auto 1/1 loss; AOT [8] can continue. |
