296 1/8/2026 6:37:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message We can play it that way if you want,

But keep in mind that the air parity rule and the “all units must be reduced before any unit can be destroyed unless critical” rule work against you.

If you have only one air-capable unit in the battle, you can strike at most one enemy air-capable unit, which effectively caps the damage you can deal.

For example, if I react with two full-strength CVs and a couple of battleships, you cannot strike both CVs and you can destroy none (no matter how many attack factors you have - unless you score a critical hit). At best, you can reduce the two battleships and one CV.

Just to point, you can use the 21th and the 22th AF at full range from Osaka to Iwo Jima if you want.
295 1/8/2026 2:51:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message Sorry about that, I know better!! I will keep the ground units where they are and adjust my a/n units. I have made an updated vassal file.

293 1/6/2026 3:57:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Hello Jonathan,

Not a bad idea to challenge the progress of the war with overwhelming force, especially since I have no stack to perform a counter-AA.

However, air units cannot enter the battle hex; they must attack at range. The closest airfields able to support Battle A are Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo, all three hexes away. This means your air units would fight at extended range with half attack (48 factors). Are you sure this is what you want?

I am also not certain the 3rd AD unit can move from Samar to any of these 3 hexes. The closest reachable seems to be Sasebo (where it can still particpate to the battle A with extended range), but I may be mistaken.

Best regards,
292 1/6/2026 2:46:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message Taking a big swing at Iwo Jima, I realize it’s a bold play. Note that in the vassal file, I am simply activating and putting units in Iwo Jima, that is because on a previous file I didn’t save it was getting messy and confusing, but I had verified that they can all make it in three legs.

288 1/5/2026 1:44:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Hello Jonathan,
Your defensive perimeter is much stronger now.
Keeping a large stack of ships in Manila is a good short-term choice. It’s still early game and the US Navy isn’t strong enough yet to eliminate it. However, you remain vulnerable to pinning by cheap LRB units.
As a defensive Japan player, you should also aim to cover as much of the map as possible with ZOIs. That usually means avoiding large stacks of units that all project the same ZOI.

271 12/25/2025 3:14:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message

I notice that in the previous post I misread the range bewteen Ponape and Kwalajein.

I proposed to use 22th AF from Ponape on Kwalajein battle hex, but it is not so good since your AF would react at halved strength.
Alternatively, you could use 22th from Ponape on A... at full strength.
Using both 22th and 25 th AF and taking aleready in battle hex air units would garantee some survivors.

Now time to make your decisions !
270 12/25/2025 3:10:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Indeed the landings on Iwo Jima and Okinawa are not endangered but I refered to battle A and B.

I think you can still do a few things.

B) For battle B you can react with 22 AF using Iwo Jima as a leg stop
* 3407 (Kure): 22 AF moves to 3709 (Iwo Jima)
* 3709 (Iwo Jima): 22 AF moves to 3814 (Guam)
* 3814 (Guam): 22 AF moves to 4316 (Ponape)
* 4316 (Ponape): 22 AF joins Battle B
=> reaction on B at full strength

Pros : your unit reacts at full strength, it endangers 2 amercian CV steps versus 0 with original battle (aside critical hit of course)
Cons : best japan air unit in the game is jeopardized, if I roll 1, it is gone.

A) For battle A, you can use the air parity rule to your avantage
original JP force : 6+5+8=19
for reference AP force : 40

Unit 1 : 26th AF coming from elsewhere
* 2616 (Tarakan): 26 AF moves to 3014 (Samar/Leyte)
* 3014 (Samar/Leyte): 26 AF moves to 3515 (Yap)
* 3515 (Yap): 26 AF joins Battle A
=> it reacts at halved power
JP force : 19+5=24

Unit 2 and 3 : CVL zuiho and 25 th AF out of battle hex
* 4017 (Truk): [CVL Zuiho] moves to 3915
* 3915: [CVL Zuiho] joins Battle A
* 4017 (Truk): [25 AF] moves to 4316 (Ponape)
* 4316 (Ponape): [25 AF] joins Battle A
JP force unchanged (since Ponape is only 3 hexes away from battle)

In this situation, you have three air units, including one at full strength, whereas I only have two air units. Even ignoring critical hits, this guarantees that at least one of your air units will survive. You also have additionnal power so dice related hazards are better.

269 12/23/2025 3:40:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message I will react, and appreciate the tip. But now given the two AAs are not in my ZOI, I am not able to roll for SR. And they are not battle hexes so can't react to them directly. I am just not seeing the angle whereby I could turn back the AA with anything other than a weather card. But clearly I am missing something, could you fill me in as I really just can't seem to figure it out...

- The ED army move must be amphibious, since there is no harbor in Wake. Therefore it cost some ASP
- When ground units attack enemy positions using AA, their defense may be halved and they may suffer a +3 modifier on the opposing side’s dice roll.”

Sorry about sick family news. Take your time if need it is also a bit refreshing on my side to have a quiet game.
Wake is not an harbor so you cant dock a cv there.

And about victory conditions yeah i know... I would have played differently if there were additional vp-related challenge for alaska or for ressources posession.

Smart move to add some troops in Palau Island.

However this situation is a bit like league of legends. Have you played that ? I can just keep feeding on the units you send me in the pacific region unless allied offensives become too dangerous

257 12/20/2025 2:51:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message For sure, definitely a big deal, but lesson learned! I was trying to optimize for those victory conditions and the expected timeline of the game remaining. Kind of a funny situation because I also had the same impression when I played in the ladder last season, but ironically lost the same turn as I thought the scenario was ending. So that incorrect impression persisted. Anyhow, all good, suffice to say my strategy will evolve. Had we been playing the ’42 scenario, I was in decent shape haha I will also do my best to pick up the pace on my end recognizing how much of the game there still is left - this week was just a disaster for me with everyone in my family getting extremely sick and having the toddler stay home from daycare, and still needing to work. Anyhow, my PBM is:

255 12/15/2025 3:11:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message In terms of the '42 campaign vs '42 scenario, I think maybe there was just a misunderstanding which is my fault. So any of my previous comments about VPs such as related to the Solomons were not relevant as of course there are no VPs in the full campaign.

Thank you for clarifying this, as it made me realize the misunderstanding was on my part!

209 12/8/2025 2:12:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message Hello Jonathan

I am starting from file 39 update.

As a general gaming tip, it is usually better if you want to correct something to update file number. That way it is easy for your opponent to know which file to use.

I’m a bit confused about your Dutch Harbor offensive. You gain PW for Alaska if you hold the same hex for 3 consecutive turns. You previously had occupied Atu for 1 turn, so that's and only 2 more to go. By switchinf from Atu to Dutch Harbor, you leave Atu and you reset the counter (because it is not the same hex). Also note that your army is out of range of CF HQ so it is going to die from attrition and you wont be able to reinforce Dutch Harbor with any assets for T4 reinforcment phase.

However holding Dutch Harbor is a valid spot for Japan to mess with Allied, I will playe my card, but if you want to change your 18th army position, that is fine to me.

Also note that the japaneese HQ cannot be redeployed in the same turn to any location (except fuel shortage card) ; it must go to the Home Islands, or you have to wait until the end of the turn.n

200 12/5/2025 2:43:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message Indeed,

I apologize for answering too quickly. I had a long day and lost track of what happened earlier this morning.

In this surprise attack, I strike first, reducing your elite air unit. You now have 25 attack factors and respond with a critical hit. That result is sufficient either to reduce both of my air units or to eliminate the Australian unit. I will assume you choose the latter option.
However feel free to change that if you wich. Here is my pbm. Back to you
