Yes, it was a good game—at least I enjoyed it. I had a chance to secure an Automatic Victory, but I made some mistakes with card play and had a few lapses in concentration. I’m satisfied, though, because I’m generally not very good at games where I have to attack (the same thing happens to me in *BTB* when I play as the Allies: I play reasonably well during the initial defensive phase, but when I need to switch to the offensive, I struggle to make significant advances or put my opponent under real pressure because I don't make the best use of activations and event cards). I’m a defender by nature—I played defense in soccer, and when I was an Infantry Lieutenant, I was better at setting up strongpoints or defending bridges than organizing an assault. I’m not particularly imaginative, and attacking requires imagination—something I lack in real life, too. Yes, I’m happy to swap roles, because in our first *BTB* game, you couldn't really play to your full potential since you lacked experience with how the Russians could use partisans; this time, we’ll have a more balanced match. That said, if you’d rather play a different game, that’s fine by me. |

We are going away on Holidays - up to the desert in the corner of Queensland and South Australia, see link below for approximate position. The place only gets 120-250mm of rain a year but some years can be subject to major floods from upstream. These floods can be 50km wide because the land is so flat. This year is one of the largest floods in the last 50 years and there are thousands of fresh water lakes and water birds. It all flows into a place call Lake Eyre which is large salt water lake. It can quite cool in winter 15-22C but in the last week it has spiked up to mid-30s, summer reaches the high 40Cs. Very few Australians ever get to go there. Unfortunately a lot of the roads (they are mostly gravel) are still closed (due to flooding).
