2. The Success Roll If a hex is eligible, the Reaction player must attempt a Special Reaction intelligence die roll to officially declare it a battle hex: The Target Number: Use the OC intelligence value printed on the Strategy card used to initiate the Offensive. This applies even if the card was played as an Event (EC). Die Roll Modifiers: If the Offensive units moved into, through, or exited any opposing air ZOI during their move, the Reaction player subtracts 2 from their die roll, making success more likely. Success Condition: If the die roll (after modifiers) is equal to or less than the OC intelligence value, the roll is successful and the hex is declared a battle hex. No Cards allowed: You cannot play a Reaction card to automatically trigger a Special Reaction; it must be decided by a die roll. |

Hey Wade, you have several ways to make it legal, but choices will have to be made ! First things first : if you want to land in unoccupied Jolo, you have to neutralize the AZOI along the path with an attacking CV(s) somewhere (Tarakan as a BH is fine). The choice here is : how many CVs will primarily participate in that battle ? Will I sacrifice 1 CV only, or will I attack with a strong force ? you might think about putting CV(s) in Jolo attacking Tarakan and switching to the landing if it becomes a contested BH, but beware : in case I fight in Jolo with only distant CVs or air units, your CVs will NOT switch to the battle in Jolo and will continue to attack Tarakan (7.27 "Reacting units that attack this hex at range do not cause this to happen, there must be a reaction unit physically in the newly created battle hex"). Moreover, if your landing is not indeed covered with an air component, any reaction air unit participating in the battle would win the A/N and make your landing fail. The only way for you to make sure Jolo is covered with aircraft is to dedicate CV(s) to the cover of the landing only, of course at the detriment of other activities. choices, choices ! |

Im sure you are right, we have been down this road - in the rules, there is a specific example of where a CV is attacking one hex and then due to SR it switches hexes - You know what I am trying to do. What should I do to make is a legal move? The CVs have nueralized the ZOI. |

??? As long as it is displayed, it won't be the case. Only the BB suports the landing so far. The CV would switch from battle A to the landing only if it's in the landing hex and only if it's attacked by a vessel, not aircraft. You may also send CVs to support the landing only, and in that case they will of course fight for the landing. But please note you still need to neutralize AZOI beforehand, with a CV fighting somewhere else, in order to enable the landing. |
