I agree. I could tell your moves were rushed, which is something that will get you into trouble in this game. I have been playing it since it first came out over 20 years ago and you will likely find my name in the rules credits as a contributor to some of the redesign efforts. Thanks for the game. When you have more time to commit to a game you should return to it just to see how much it has changed. Mark has a habit of 'tinkering' with his published games to improve them and make them fresh. |

The Japanese have to get as much done in the first three turns as possible. If they do not draw at least 7-8 big operational events on turns 3 and 4 they are usually in trouble. That is about the only time when they can initiate offensives that will not draw a very strong reaction from the allies. I had a great turn 3 hand! With any luck on the dice at all I should have been able to eliminate all the allied air units, capture Akyab and Colombo and put the entire front OOS. The dice did not cooperate. The US PW is not going to go to zero. The allies are too strong for that now. As we have seen in this game, that +1 for US air/carrier combat can be a real game saver for the allies. I now need to start planning for the long game. At this point that means getting units positioned to react to allied operations. I have a few things that I really should do now, but that would leave me without an FO card for next turn. Turns 5 and 6 will be my last chance to make effective reaction moves to keep the allies at bay. Once we get to 1944 and the US air/carrier +3drm the Japanese air/naval assets disappear in a hurry. |
