137 8/13/2017 2:00:00 AM 1624-1625 Protestant Play Strategy card as Combat #13: 1 / Command Rivalry
Catholic army must contain at least 2 leaders. -1 to Catholic combat die-roll.

Message from Protestant:
Tilly and Pappenheim disagree about how the battle should be conducted.
136 8/13/2017 1:58:00 AM 1624-1625 Protestant Play Strategy card as Event #5: 2 / Gregory XV Becomes Pope
Playable only if Paul V is Pope. Death of Paul V. No Papal Aid to Catholic player this turn. Papal Aid resumes next turn, until Urban VIII Becomes Pope event (P-15).

Message from Protestant:
I'll use this to activate Mansfeld, who will move as follows:

MP 1: Along with Anhalt, pick up 2 Hungarian Militia and move to Pressburg.

MP 2: Move to Kasseg to collect forage and grain for the troops, beeves on the hoof, etc. Place a P2 marker.

MP 3: Move with all troops back to Pressburg. Pick up Bethlen Gabor. The Hungarian (Mil) will remain in place.

MP 4: Continue on to Vienna. Drop off BG.

MP 5: Mansfeld, Anhalt, and 2 f/s Protestant Mercs (6 CFs); 3 u/s Prot (Mercs) (6 CFs); and 2 f/s Hungarian Militia (4 CFs) march up the Danube River road to attack Tilly's Bavarian army in Linz. BG and 1 f/s Hungarian Mil will remain behind to garrison Vienna.

The Protestants will roll on the 15-19 Fire Column, with a +1 DRM for Mansfeld.

The Bavarians will roll on the 8-10 Fire Column, with a +2 for Tilly, but a -1 for the Combat Card I'm about to play = +1 DRM (unless you have a combat card).

You may play any combat cards you wish and resolve. I will send a move file that covers up to this point.
135 8/10/2017 4:41:00 PM 1624-1625 Catholic Message I Reduced by 1 at O/heim and remove P1 from Frankfurt
Basic yes but I have completed Vassal file for both our adjustments (otherwise I am liable to muck up Vassal actions)

Catholic Pillage Recovery Roll
133 8/7/2017 11:36:00 PM 1624-1625 Protestant Message That allows me to reduce two spaces. Decrease the Pillage level of Kiel from P2 to P1, and remove the P1 marker from Brunn.

This is pretty basic, so I think we can each make our own adjustments without exchanging move files.

The first order of business in the new turn is the Pillage recovery Phase. First, I will roll and then you.

131 8/2/2017 1:06:00 PM 1624-1625 Protestant Message Gary, just a note that I will be back from vacation on Thursday night, but fairly late. Thus, I should be able to get my next move out either on Friday evening or sometime Saturday.
130 7/28/2017 11:18:00 PM 1624-1625 Protestant Draw Strategy cards NOTE: The deck was reshuffled on this deal.
129 7/28/2017 11:17:00 PM 1624-1625 Protestant Message Gary, I had around-the-clock hours at work for the last week in order to make a deadline at close of business on Thursday. Then I had to work till midnight last night squaring other things away so I could leave today on a week's vacation. I'll get back home late Thursday of next week, but until then, I have no access to a board.

117 7/17/2017 12:14:00 AM 1622-1623 Protestant Message Another bad roll for me, and a great one for you. I lose a step, and Hamburg continues to hold out; Heidelberg, on the other hand, surrenders.

I will send you a game file that reflects the current state of the board (although you should eliminate my 21 FAPs from the Records Track). You will then need to do you paying and looting, and that will conclude the turn. I will go ahead and discard one card.

Message from Protestant:
I will undertake to roll for the two continuing sieges on the board.

Hamburg
Heidelberg

115 7/17/2017 12:08:00 AM 1622-1623 Protestant Message With regard to the Catholic pay situation, the Austrian units in Graz are locally paid.

But the Bavarian units in Linz are not. It would take 8 FAPs to pay them.

Likewise, the 5 Vets you have besieging Heidelberg are not locally paid. It would take 10 FAPs to pay them.

Thus, you need 18 FAPs to pay the Spanish and Bavarian troops fully, but only have 5 FAPs. I therefore feel that I must leave it to you to decide how to allocated your limited cash reserves, and then to roll on the Looting table.

114 7/17/2017 1622-1623 Protestant Message There's a correction, which makes it slightly worse. Per Rule 15.223((1), steps lost from pillaging must be taken from Mercenary units, if possible -- so my unpaid Merc is eliminated. I have placed it up near the game logo to record that it can never come back in. My u/s Mil gets restored to full-strength.

113 7/16/2017 11:52:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message OK, that was pretty bad. The u/s Mil in Brunn is eliminated, and a P1 marker placed.

A P2 marker gets placed in Budweis, and two steps have to be eliminated from the units that were unpaid. I'll eliminate the understrength Mil and reduce the full-strength Mil.

Brunn

111 7/16/2017 11:47:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message Now we're to the end of the turn mechanics, starting with the Pay Phase.

First, the Protestant Pay Segment (21 FAPs).

- All Danes are locally paid (from Denmark).
- The Hungarian unit in Pressburg is locally paid.
- All of Mansfeld's troops are fully paid, at a cost of 13 FAPs.
- The Merc in Liegnitz is fully paid (2 FAPs).
- That leaves 6 FAPs. Three of the 4 Mercs in Schlick's army at Budweis are paid. That leaves 1 unpaid Merc and 2 unpaid Mils. +1 DRM for Pillage-1 status.
- The unpaid Mil in Brunn will also have to roll.

110 7/16/2017 11:43:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message OK. Charles of Lorraine and Gallas to Graz.

109 7/13/2017 4:46:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Message Wrong ! as played a FA last card. Will use to bring in the Leaders instead to Graz
108 7/13/2017 4:41:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Play Strategy card as Foreign Aid #8: 1 / New Leaders
Charles of Loraine, Gallas. Place with any Imperial units.

Message from Catholic:
PLayed for Aid
107 7/13/2017 4:39:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Change Victory Points -4: from 20 to 16
106 7/13/2017 4:39:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Message OK in Vassal file I have moved your Merc unit and converted cities/provinces and -4VP
105 7/7/2017 11:57:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message Also, we do not remove all the neutral markers from the cities of Munster. Although I violated the Principality's neutrality, I didn't invest the additional +1 MP per city necessary to convert any of them to the Protestant cause.

104 7/7/2017 11:50:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message I will use a Free Move for my last impulse of Turn 2. I will activate my Merc unit in Brunn, and will move it through Olmutz (2 MPs) to Friedland (2 MPs) to Leignitz (2 MPs), converting each city as it goes. This is enough to convert both Moravia (+2 VPs) and Silesia (+2 VPs) to the Protestant cause. That reduces the VP total to 16.

You will now proceed to take your final impulse. After that, I will have to decide which of my remaining cards to discard. I can then close out Turn 2 and advance things to Turn 3.

This time, I will try to remember to send you a move file. (I'm afraid I sometimes forget to do that when I'm making my move late at night and I am desperate to get to bed.)

103 7/6/2017 4:27:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Message I had adjusted VPs in Vassal but not in ACTs but both now correct at 20.
102 7/6/2017 4:26:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Play Strategy card as Foreign Aid #33: 1 / Croats
Catholic army must include an Imperial unit. +1 to Catholic combat die roll.

Message from Catholic:
I play Croats for FAid as well for big 5 :-)
Adjusted total in Vassal file
101 7/6/2017 4:25:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Message Did not get a Vassal file for your last turn (?) so in mine I have removed Neutral Marker from Munster (should we remove Neutral Mkrs from all Cities in Munster ?). Adjusted your FAid to 21.
100 7/1/2017 12:22:00 AM 1622-1623 Protestant Play Strategy card as Foreign Aid #11: 3 / Treaty of Ulm
Neither player may enter a Neutral Area or Independent City for the rest of the turn.

Message from Protestant:
I'll play this for the Foreign Aid: 21 FAPs.

Otherwise, just as a matter of housekeeping, I should have removed the Neutral marker on Munster when my trips marched through there on their way to the UP, so I will do that now.
99 7/1/2017 12:10:00 AM 1622-1623 Protestant Change Victory Points +1: from 19 to 20
98 7/1/2017 12:10:00 AM 1622-1623 Protestant Message No, you don't. You moved a total of 5 units altogether, and moving 3-5 units only requires a 1 Pillage marker.

Because you picked up 1 VP for Frankfurt, VPs now stand at 20.

97 6/25/2017 7:00:00 AM 1622-1623 Catholic Message Cordoba then move 4 MP to Heidleberg (picking up 2 Units at Mainz and establishes Siege.
Do I have to Pillage again ?
96 6/25/2017 6:56:00 AM 1622-1623 Catholic Message Pillage 1 at Frankfurt

94 6/25/2017 6:54:00 AM 1622-1623 Catholic Play Strategy card as Operations #10: 2 / New Leaders
Deploy Aldringer and Holk with and Bavarian units.

Message from Catholic:
PLay to activate Cordoba
93 6/6/2017 11:24:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Change Victory Points +1: from 18 to 19
92 6/6/2017 11:23:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Change Victory Points -2: from 20 to 18
91 6/6/2017 11:23:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message A few additional acts of housekeeping are needed.

- The VP marker goes down from 20 to 18, because of the Protestant conversion of Lubeck and Bremen, but then +1 and back up to 19, for the violation of Brunswick's neutrality.

- I will remove the Bergen siege marker and place a few other Event markers on the Turn Record Track.

90 6/6/2017 11:21:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Play Strategy card as Operations #4: 2 / New Leader
Deploy Frederick of Baden and 2 Protestant Militia in Baden. Baden enters game as Protestant area.

Message from Protestant:
I'll play this for the Ops, and will use it to activate Christian of Brunswick with his army of 3 Mils, who will move as follows from Braunschweig (Brunswick):

MP 1: Luneberg.

MP 2: Bremen.

MP 3: Osnabruck, thereby violating the neutrality of Munster. +1 VP for the Catholics as a penalty.

MP 4: Lingen; place P1.

MP 5: Enter the UP, and go to the "Protestant Armies in the UP" box. Reduce one of the Mils by one step.

This breaks the siege of Bergen, so the siege marker is removed.

89 6/5/2017 5:52:00 AM 1622-1623 Catholic Message Electorate even !
88 6/5/2017 5:51:00 AM 1622-1623 Catholic Play Strategy card as Event #12: 1 / Frederick of Palatine Deposed as Elector
Catholic player must control Lower Palatine. Transfer Electorate marker from Palatine to Bavaria. Bavaria is an electorate for the rest of the game.

Message from Catholic:
Played for Event to convert Bavaria to Palantate
87 6/2/2017 12:06:00 AM 1622-1623 Protestant Message And I just remembered that I have to pillage somewhere. So place a P1 at Kiel.
86 6/2/2017 12:02:00 AM 1622-1623 Protestant Play Strategy card as Operations #15: 3 / Urban VIII Becomes Pope
Playable only if Gregory XV is Pope. Death of Gregory XV. End Papal Aid to Catholic Player.

Message from Protestant:
I'll play this to activate Christian IV of Denmark (a/k/a "C IV"), who will move with his troops (4 f/s Mercs) as follows:

MP 1: Move into Kiel. The troops spend some time exploring the waterfront bars . . . and you know what else.

MP 2-3: Roust the troops from the bars (and other establishments), and move onto, occupy, and convert Lubeck to the Protestant cause. -1 VP. Further exploration of waterfront bars, etc.

MP 4: Move on with all 4 Mercs to Hamburg. The troops are very excited about this, but alas, the city fathers shut the gates. Leave 3 Mercs here to begin establishing siege lines.

MP 5-6: C IV moves on with 1 Merc to Bremen, which he occupies and convinces to join the Protestant cause. -1 VP. The Merc will end its movement here (since it has to). You can imagine what transpires in the waterfront bars, & c.

MP 7 (because he has 8 MPs): C IV moves back to Hamburg, surveys the siege works, and pronounces them good. A siege is established.
85 5/30/2017 11:38:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message +3 for Catholic control of the Palatinate.

84 5/30/2017 11:38:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Change Victory Points +3: from 17 to 20
83 5/30/2017 11:37:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message . . . Except that I now see you didn't change it, so it is fine as it stands.

But: for your move, you marched Cordoba and his troops initially to Landau, flipped control to Catholic, pillaged it (P1), and then marched back through Trier (possibly passing through the famous Roman gateway, the Porta Nigra) and then on to Mainz. This now gives you control of three cities in the Palatinate, which is enough to flip it to Catholic control. For which you get +3 VPs. So the VP marker will now move back up the track to 20, and you (or me) will also add a marker showing that control of an electorate has switched from Protestant to Catholic.

Note, however, that Heidelberg remains Protestant, despite the fact that the Palatinate has switched control to Protestant. See Rule 3.1, first bullet point.

I will take care of all of this house-keeping, hopefully tomorrow night if I'm able to execute my next move then.

82 5/30/2017 11:30:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message Gary, the -2 reduction in the VP total from 19 to 17 in Post 79 didn't result from double-counting the effect of Christian of Brunwick's entrance. It was a function of Christian IV of Denmark's entry onto the board in Post 77, which (per Rule 17.D.3) automatically results in Schleswig-Holstein (2 VPs) flipping to Protestant. So the VP total gets adjusted back to 17.

81 5/30/2017 1:14:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Play Strategy card as Operations #1: 3 / Val Telline Passes Open
Val Telline Passes must be Closed to play this card. Spanish Aid to Catholic player resumes.

Message from Catholic:
Activate Cordoba
80 5/30/2017 1:10:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Message Re-adjust of VPs as you had already deducted -2 VPs for other Brunswick :-)

79 5/29/2017 11:27:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Change Victory Points -2: from 19 to 17
78 5/29/2017 11:27:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message I just realized that I mistakenly entered Christian of Brunswick and his troops in the wrong Brunswick -- Kalenberg, not Luneburg. So I have corrected that in the move file I'm sending you.
77 5/29/2017 11:03:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Play Strategy card as Event #7: 3 / Denmark Enters War
Deploy Christian and 4 Danish Mercenaries in Denmark.

Message from Protestant:
I'll play this for the event. Encouraged by Mansfeld's capture of Wien and fearful for the fate of his co-religionists in the Netherlands, King Christian of Denmark also decides to enter the war. His troops are placed on the Danish flag markers, but Schleswig-Holstein automatically shifts into the Protestant column. -2 VPs.
76 5/26/2017 4:53:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Message Bergen Siege card played
Note when I played Spinola Returns to N/Lands his force should have gone into Utd Provinces not just to a N/Lands city. Have corrected this on Vassal
75 5/26/2017 4:45:00 PM 1622-1623 Catholic Play Strategy card as Event #3: 2 / Spinola Besieges Bergen
Spinola Recalled to Netherlands card must have been played previously. Must be first Catholic card play of turn if played as Event. +1 to Dutch War Track. If no Protestant army enters United Provinces this turn, +1 to Dutch War Track at end of turn.

Message from Catholic:

73 5/24/2017 11:34:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Play Strategy card as Event #3: 2 / New Leader
Deploy Christian of Brunswick and 3 Protestant Militia in Brunswick-Luneberg. Brunswick-Luneberg enters game as Protestant area.

Message from Protestant:
I'll play this for the Event. -2 VP.
72 5/23/2017 11:15:00 PM 1622-1623 Protestant Message One correction: the part of Post # 67 dealing with pillage should have read, "the only pillaged area I have that's in a Friendly or Neutral area is at Budweis, which is adjacent to one of your units at Linz, and thus can't be removed."

My apologies for the delay. I've been dealing with the end-of-turn mechanics in another online game, plus I had to bone up on the rules and then play through an all-day FtF gaming session on Sunday. I must get to bed now, but will try very hard to get my first impulse move out tomorrow night. I think all the administrative mechanics have been taken care of.

68 5/20/2017 1:00:00 AM 1622-1623 Protestant Draw Strategy cards
67 5/20/2017 1:00:00 AM 1622-1623 Protestant Message And on to Turn 2.

6B. The Pillage Recovery Phase.

There's no point in my doing a pillage recovery roll; the only pillaged area I have that's in a Friendly or Neutral area is at Linz, which is adjacent to one of your units, and thus can't be removed.

The only pillage recovery you can do is at Passau, I believe; you don't yet control the Palatinate, so you can't do a recovery roll for Oppenheim. A pillage roll is a minimum of 1, so I will remove the P1 marker in Oppenheim unless you object.

It's now late here, so I will draw the cards, then head to bed.

66 5/20/2017 1:00:00 AM 1620-1621 Protestant End Turn
65 5/20/2017 12:43:00 AM 1620-1621 Protestant Message That is more than enough for the siege of Mannheim to end successfully.

Looting die roll for Schlick's troops at Budweis:

61 5/20/2017 12:36:00 AM 1620-1621 Protestant Message So, to the End of Turn mechanics.

E1. Pay Segment

(P) The Protestant army under Mansfeld at Wien is fully paid, as are the units with Thurn at Brunn. The Hungarian unit at Pressburg is locally paid. I can pay only one of the Mercs (or two of the Militia) with Schlick at Budweis, so they must roll on the Loot Table.

(C) The Imperial units at Graz are all locally paid; and your 12 FAPs are enough to pay your Bavarian Mercs at Linz and your Spanish Veterans at Trier and Mannheim.

60 5/19/2017 9:01:00 AM 1620-1621 Catholic Play Strategy card as Foreign Aid #7: 3 / New Leaders

54 5/14/2017 9:20:00 AM 1620-1621 Catholic Play Strategy card as Event #9: 2 / New Leader

Message from Catholic:
53 5/14/2017 12:26:00 AM 1620-1621 Protestant Play Strategy card as Event #9: 3 / Richelieu Becomes Chief Minister of France
Begin French Aid to Protestant player. Allows play of Sweden Enters War event (P-18).

Message from Protestant:
I'll play this card for the event. Encouraged by Mansfeld's early conquest of the imperial capital of Wien, Cardinal Richelieu agrees to begin paying a generous biannual French subsidy. Other Protestant powers kick in as well and the result is that the King of Bohemia's coffers swell with a massive transfer of foreign gold: FR7 + ENG3 + UP8 = 18 FAPs.
52 5/12/2017 4:41:00 PM 1620-1621 Catholic Message Spinola + 3 Vets returns to Aachen. +1 Pillage at Oppenheim
51 5/12/2017 4:37:00 PM 1620-1621 Catholic Play Strategy card as Event #11: 3 / Spinola Recalled to Netherlands
