Message from Confederate:
Sorry I did not get this done for you yesterday. Rolling for possible GO casualty.
500 4/6/2017 8:38:00 PM Fall 1864 Union Message I hope your day went smooth. I know you have a bit going on.

I will check in the morning as I check my email before I leave for our trip. Plan to get up by 0600, could be earlier as often do get up earlier.

You do not have to even answer and I can get back in the saddle next week (starting the 13th).

Best to you.
499 4/6/2017 1:59:00 PM Fall 1864 Union Message Fremont loses his life for the Union.

New DCG is McDowell based on PV.

Will await your roll for possible GO loss before making my second move.

Leaving tomorrow morning, hope to finish my second move so you can take your time planning your move.

Just perfect! A 1 row for low battle damage; a consecutive 1 roll for a lost GO. Eligible GOs:
Banks
Fremont
McDowell
McPherson
Stoneman
(Thomas not in there as he was not in the battle)

Might as well say the "LOW" number is the GO killed (numbers rolled compare to alpha list of GOs)

Message from Union:
Well, that is swell. I had a +10 (auto win) until you played that battle card. Still had a good chance with a 3DR or higher...so

CSA wins 3 to 2*. AoW n2-2 holds Zanesville. AoC n9-1 falls back to Columbus, where Thomas and 4SPs are.

I have to roll a 1 to lose a GO based on your hitting 10 with your roll and DRM; you have to roll 1-3 for a loss.

I cannot do my second move without knowing the results of your roll for a GO casualty.

I want to state that Thomas and his 4SPs have not been used and I consider them fit for duty if used for my second move.

Stoneman has been living too easy of late and having time with Col Eggleston's wife, who entertained the enemy CG, they may both come up on investigation.

Again, good intercept and battle card. Now...

Great card to have for this battle in particular.

Battle of Zanesville (medium; 12 vs 4 SPs)

USA. Grant +1; McPherson +2; AoW OOS +2 and fr +2 for +7
CSA. GOs (Lee, Stuart and a 1 GO) +6; +2 for intercept for +8

495 4/6/2017 10:29:00 AM Fall 1864 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #105: 1 / Detached Cavalry
Played prior to a battle against an army possessing one or more cavalry brigades. The ONLY effects are the Army’s Commanding General’s battle rating (offense or defense) is immediately reduced by 2 and no Cavalry general’s battle ratings may be used in the battle. The effects end at the conclusion of the battle. Cavalry generals are not available for casualty determination. OR: Place one PC marker in any space within four spaces (includes river connections) of a single cavalry brigade. The four space range many not be traced through Northeast Alabama. The space may not contain an enemy SP or fort, but may contain an Ironclad or Torpedoes.

Message from Confederate:
Lee's intercept attempt was successful, and he will play the detached cavalry battle card as well. The normally reliable Stoneman goes off to see Col Eggleston's wife, who is apparently quite popular in these parts.

Grant's battle rating is 1 for the battle, and no cavalry may be used by Grant.

491 4/5/2017 7:04:00 AM Fall 1864 Confederate Message INstead of an SP being placed in Hanover VA, put it in Saltville VA. Hanover now has 4-1 and Rodgersville has 5-2.

480 4/4/2017 1:36:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message EOT looks correct (to say good would not be right from my perspective). ONE CHANGE. I had an attrition loss in Sabine City with Buell; will fix on my map (goes to 3) and when I send my reinforcements/sm/go map file it will reflect this. Thank you for doing the EOT.
479 4/4/2017 11:19:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message End of Turn

USA PCs: Shreveport LA; Murfreesboro, Tullahoma, Missionary Ridge, Cleveland, Knoxville, and Clinton TN; Somerset, Lebanon, and Louisville KY; Winchester and Strasburg, VA; Franklin and Grafton, WV.

478 4/4/2017 10:51:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Ewell's corps remains in Parkersburg.

MOve 2: AoW (6-1) d1 in Pittsburg (5-1) > Coshocton OH (convert and d1 + Smith, n4-1) > Zanesville OH (d2 and Hood and convert, n2-1) > Washington OH and convert.

The Union is now split in two, so no strategic movement east-west or vice versa. Lee spends the Autumn at the home of one Colonel Beroth B. Eggleston (Commander, 1st Ohio Cavalry ... she privately confides to fiends that he is "very charming ... after the South wins the war, I should like to be in a position to be Mrs. Lee -- should something happen to the current Mrs. Lee, of course."

477 4/4/2017 6:59:00 AM Summer 1864 Union Message Great card to have at this point.

Certainly a good move with Ewell; just the right amount of spaces.

No attempt to intercept.

Hancock will be OOS and expecting things (well at least the AoW) "to go South".
476 4/3/2017 10:55:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #85: 3 / Minor Campaign
Conduct up to two moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Confederate:
Agreed, 4 SPs with Sheridan and with Hancock, adjusted on my map.

Move 1: Ewell + 3 (n2-1 in Hanover with Longstreet) > Gordonsville (d1, n2) > via the southern route through Wytheville > Parkersburg WV ... intercept?
475 4/3/2017 3:28:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Since there has not been a comment by you, I would like to ask for a modification of my last move.

I propose leaving 4 with Hancock in Grafton and therefore Sheridan would only have 4 with him in Lewistown.

I will change my map, if you would yours. Also, if you think too much time has gone by, I will leave it the same.

I was caught up in various thinking of how to play the last card, had some business I needed to get to and thought you were waiting too long on me to move so you could do your last play. It struck me when I came back that I had wanted to balance out those two GOs better and hence my adjustment.

Again, let me know when it is your play if the above is ok or if we stay with how I sent it first. Thanks.
474 4/3/2017 1:22:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #44: 2 / Western Virginia
Place three Union PC markers in any West Virginia space free of Confederate SPs. If the space contains a Confederate PC marker, it is flipped. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
Sorry for the delay. Wanted to play this as an event, but still too uncertain and you are a wild card in this game for sure. So...

Activate Sheridan, Hancock and the 6SPs in Uniontown. Grafton, d3 and Hancock, n3; Franklin d1 n2; Strasburg pu1 n3, 1 left; Winchester pu1 n4, 1 left; Harpers Ferry pu1 n5, 1 left; Chambersburg; Harrisburg and end in Lewistown.

File next.
473 4/3/2017 1:15:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Actually had a couple of options and will play last card soon. Thanks for your patience.
472 4/3/2017 12:55:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Your card play message just came in. I think I know my only option and should play soon.
471 4/3/2017 12:52:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Note: I did NOT receive the ACTS message for your AoW end around in WV/PA. Again odd.

Changing map now.
470 4/3/2017 12:48:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Failed. So you are in Pittsburgh and Sheridan and company is now OOS. Wonderful.

If you have not sent a map, I can clean up the battlefield and make my last move.

This season has been a long one, but you have been consistent in keeping me off plan.

468 4/3/2017 12:41:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #91: 2 / Letters of Marque
Increase Confederate SW by 1. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:

467 4/3/2017 11:59:00 AM Summer 1864 Union Message Sorry...I saw your response to my earlier entry. I was typing my last one when you did.

Your reasoning seems sound.
466 4/3/2017 11:57:00 AM Summer 1864 Union Message I guess I should have announced Sheridan's status when he was placed at the beginning of this round.

I can do a reset, use Reynolds and wind up doing what I wanted to do in joining with Hancock.

Just give me a little while to put together.
465 4/3/2017 11:55:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Huh ... interesting point that I don't think has come up before. He should probably be on the turn track as a corps commander since he must be built up to a cav bde by being activated (like Van Dorn.

Let's let it stand. We can change him to corps commander on the turn track next time.
464 4/3/2017 11:52:00 AM Summer 1864 Union Message I never designated him as a Cav commander. The piece just was on the turn marker that way.
I wish I had made that distinction, but I did not. I did not show AoP as having 2 Cav when I made my move of Hooker from it in Journal entry 434 (said 6-1).

I can take it back and use another GO, but a question: If he comes on as a Cav General and the rule says once designated, when can he be a Corps Commander?

463 4/3/2017 11:44:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message From 5.67D "... Once designated a Cavalry General he (Sheridan) remains one for the remainder of the game and follows all rules for Cavalry Brigades. ..."
462 4/3/2017 11:39:00 AM Summer 1864 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #68: 2 / Lincoln Declares Southern Blockade
The Union Blockade Level is increased by one. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
Hate to use it this way, but once again always the tricky rebel.

Activate Sheridan as a Corps Commander with 2SPs in Manassas with 2; AoP n4-1. DC pu1 n3, DC 1; Baltimore pu1 n4; York; Harrisburg pu1 n5; Lewistown; Johnstown; Pittsburgh and end in Uniontown with Hancock n6.

Sending map file right after posting this.
461 4/3/2017 11:32:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Weird ...my sent messages shows the message sent only once.

447 4/2/2017 8:56:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #4: 1 / Costly Mistake
Pick an enemy army with two or more subordinate generals (includes Cavalry Generals) and randomly determine a target general. On a die roll of 1-3 the chosen general is killed and removed from play. On a die roll of 4-6 the general is wounded and removed from play, but re-enters during the reinforcement phase of the next game turn.

440 1/28/2017 1:14:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Good to hear from you, but sorry about the computer. Can only imagine.

I may come back in a little while to do the battle, but...I will have to assume that Price took both SPs with the intercept. If you want to keep one in the fort, please let me know. I will keep the site up for now.
439 1/28/2017 12:08:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Price successfully intercepts ... not playing a battle card (would have had to play interrupt card before attempting intercept).

Once again, my apologies for not being very present here. In addition to all the other fun stuff going on, we got a virus of some kind on our old computer (which needed replacing anyway) so I had to get a new computer set up in the interim.

423 12/13/2016 7:07:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message CORRECTION: When AoC arrived in Vernon it became 14-1. I did NOT reflect that on the AoC SP total.
FOR LAST MOVE: to make it simple, put 1 USA SP in Vernon, so AoC made the move with 13 as described and is now 15-1 attacking AoNV.
422 12/13/2016 7:00:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #34: 1 / Elite Units
Place an Elite unit marker in any space with an Army. CSA: Stonewall Bde or Hood’s Tigers. USA: Iron Bde or Wilder’s Bde. Cannot be played if all elite unit markers are in play for that side.

Message from Union:
Activate AoC, 13-1. Cincinnati; Falmouth; Lexington pu 2, n15-1; Frankfort and attack AoNV in Louisville. Retreat before battle? Any card to play? I will not be playing a bc.
421 12/11/2016 1:00:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #59: 2 / Farragut
Union may make a naval more with up to three SPs plus one general. Move may pass one ungarrisoned fort without “running the guns” to conduct an amphibious assault (may not pass an ironclad). Ignore first torpedo encountered during naval move. If the port space is captured it immediately receives a Union PC marker. Add +2 to Running the Guns die roll.

Message from Confederate:
Smith's corps in Clinton TN (3-1) via road > Weston WV.
420 12/5/2016 5:49:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #55: 1 / CSS Tennessee
Confederate may place one Ironclad in a controlled port or coastal fort space.

Message from Union:
Activate AoC 10-1. Grafton; Parkersburg pu Rosy and 3, n13-1; Washington; Cincinnati and end in Vernon absorbing the SP there, n14-1.

I knew what I had to do if you built that darn fort. Pesky devil that you are. I will send file.

I see your schedule. We are to leave Friday before noon, so we might be off schedule during the time you get back and when I am gone. Should be back Sun night.
419 12/5/2016 4:43:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #102: 3 / First Manassas
Confederate Player may move 2 SPs using Strategic Movement from the same space using rail connections only (5 space maximum) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. OR play this card as an automatic 2 space interception. Intervening space must be friendly controlled and free of enemy SPs. The intervening space may be the one just exited by the moving enemy force. No Generals or SPs may be picked up or dropped off during the intercept.

Message from Confederate:
Fort in Louisville KY. No file.

FYI, I am flying this week Tue-Thu, leaving the am of the 6th (tomorrow).
418 12/4/2016 12:21:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message My...USA wins 2* to 1. Halleck and 2 remain in Shreveport.
To facilitate the game, I will make the assumption that Price and the one surviving division will retreat to Marshal and the fort. If you wish to do otherwise, you can adjust it later.
Will send file.

Well...didn't see that necessarily working out this way.
Battle of Shreveport (now medium, 6SPs, with your intercept).
USA. +2 Amphib +1 for Halleck for +3
CSA. +2 for intercept +1 for Price for +3
416 12/3/2016 8:52:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Well, how about that? Successful intercept by Price, who leaves 1 SP in the fort in Marshall. No battle card.

414 12/2/2016 7:20:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #20: 3 / Union Arms Production Delayed
Confederate removes two Union SPs (Confederate chooses). No more than one SP can be removed from a space and the SP cannot be the last SP in the space.

Message from Union:
Amphib assault. Halleck and 3 from DC; n5 in DC to attack the two CSA divisions in Shreveport, LA.

Any card to play, BC or otherwise? I have no bc.

Will check in the am. Been fighting a cold, but on the mend.
413 11/28/2016 7:28:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Message USA wins 3-2*, but is eliminated. Burnside goes to the turn track. Smith (3-1) remains in Clinton TN.

410 11/26/2016 9:29:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #72: 2 / John Ericsson's Monitor Fleet
The Union Amphibious Assault modifier is increased by two.

Message from Confederate:
Smith plus Stuart's cavalry and 3 SPs (AoNV n5-0) in Louisville KY > Lebanon (pu1, n5-1) > Somerset (pu1, n6-1) > attack Burnside's corps in Clinton TN.

Burnside cannot avoid battle, so are you using a battle card (I am not).

Sorry for the delay. I will try to get back in the swing of things some, although for the short term I do not anticipate getting on for extended periods.

407 10/23/2016 10:19:00 AM Summer 1864 Union Message CSA wins 2-1, but is eliminated; USA to 4SPs. In this case 7.33C applies and Burnside can continue moving as the battle began with more than twice the size of the defender.

Leaving 1 in Murfreesboro, Burnside and 3 to Tullahoma, d1 n2; McMinnville, Crossville and end in Clinton, TN.

Will send map.
