51 2/17/2017 11:50:00 AM August 1914 Allies Message Agree that it is a difficult position.
Thank you for the resignation, there is no need to play on in this position, particularly as your workload heats up.
If you would like to play a game later not in the tournament when your workload is lighter that would probably be more fun.
50 2/16/2017 11:16:00 PM August 1914 Central Powers Message I don't believe my position on the board is hopeless, and am willing to play on for grins if you want to do it.

However, I am formally resigning the game, because I have gotten so busy at work that I'm simply unable to even come close to keeping my time commitment, and because you and the rest of the tournament are entitled to expect better. I'm sorry. I thought I could deal with it, but there's too much going on.

I'll copy the GM on this via e-mail.
49 2/9/2017 4:07:00 PM August 1914 Allies Message There is still the attack on Munkacs. Recovering from the loss of three German armies is well-nigh impossible, but you are welcome to try.

Place a Level 1 Trench (not improve a Level 1 to Level 2) in any space occupied by a supplied friendly Army. Both players may now entrench. Only one player may play this card as an event.

Hi, Carl, I'm John. I'm a tax preparer in California and it is that
season, so I am working long hours but have one day off a week, usually
Saturdays.

I will try to log in and play one card every night (often 9 or 10 pm),
and on my day off I will usually stay logged in all day in the hope of
getting a full season done, sometimes even two.

(For the one week of April 12-18 I may not get any moves out.)

I agree to the historical scenario (I assume it is the one on BPA's web
site) and OOS warnings. I don't want to use any variant cards.

My computer runs Linux, so I can't handle VASSAL but can try to get
Cyberboard to run. Mostly I just keep track of the game state in a text
log file. To help this work, I try to always name specific units when
they move, attack, or flip over.

If you need a response and aren't getting it, phone or text me at 916 695-5906.
5 2/4/2017 12:33:00 AM August 1914 Central Powers Message I bid zero to play the CP. (I got clobbered in round 1 as the Allies.)
4 2/3/2017 11:49:00 PM August 1914 Allies Message You get the first bid. Enjoy.

Message from Allies:
First bid to you on 1-3, my bid on 4-6.
2 2/3/2017 11:49:00 PM August 1914 Allies Message Hello, expect to usually play at least one card per day, very probably more. What pace are you comfortable with? Located in US East Coast.
Would like to play the historical scenario with OOS warnings. Think that covers it, will roll a die for the first bid on sides.
1 2/3/2017 2:49:00 PM August 1914 Moderator Message Welcome to Round Two of the BPA VII Paths of Glory Tournament!

You've been through this before so you probably know what to do: I'll be your game moderator and should be your first point of contact for any issues related to this match. My overriding priority for this match is to make sure it's fun and fair for both players. That means sportsmanship is expected at all times and issues are to be resolved equitably.

Contacting the Moderator: I am based in Philadelphia (US EST, GMT -5) and will generally respond to all match questions within 24 hours. I strongly recommend you e-mail me directly at "gregorit@yahoo.com" referencing your match # when you do so. (ACTS does not send the moderators all posted messages and as we all have multiple games to moderate, we can not be counted on to read through the logs of individual games with any regularity.) Please also put your question/issue in the log and I'll make sure I post a response there as well. If I do not respond within 48 hours, please escalate to one of the other GMs (mdauer92@yahoo.com or paulhubbard@hotmail.co.uk). If I am going to be unavailable for more than 48 hours, I will alert you ahead of time.

Issue Resolution: If either player has a concern about a particular ruling or resolution I make, feel free to escalate to the other GMs. I will also reach out to Paul and Michael if there's something I'm not sure of. Please remember that the ACTS logs are viewable for all, direct exchanges with your opponent are obviously permitted but GMs will view the ACTS logs as the authoritative record of the game.

Getting Started: Here are my thoughts on how to get the match started:

- Introduce yourselves and set expectations regarding your availability and game pace.
- Agree on the scenario. The default is the WBC Historical Scenario as described on the POG Tournament Page and I strongly recommend its usage.
- Agree on usage of supply warnings. They are strongly recommended.
- There is no mandatory usage of a particular PBEM tool. VASSAL is recommended but not necessary and exchanging game logs is also optional.
- Bid for sides. (Initial bidder is to be random, one of you just roll a die with a 50-50 shot of that player bidding first. Switch sides in ACTS if necessary.
- Draw cards. CP will then kick off the fun by rolling the turn 1 MO and playing their first card.

The official launch date is Saturday, February 4th but feel free to start your match immediately.

Have fun!

Tom Gregorio
