137 3/13/2017 4:06:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message 20.0, on the other hand, is used in tournament play.

OK, let's give 19.0 a whirl. Same sides?
136 3/13/2017 2:06:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Or we can start over as you propose. This game is lost already with Trenton flagged Confed. I now because something similar happened to me in another game w/o Optional rules 19 and 20. I spent 3 game years trying to expel the Rebs but couldn't. Eventually, I was done in by the double SW rule.
135 3/13/2017 2:01:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message C'mon Dave.
Post 8 - you agreed to use optional rules.
Post 100 - you used optional 20.
But now you argue that optional 19 isn't in play?

I can understand not wanting to give up that killer move, but I wasn't thinking anything like it was possible. At worst, I figured you could sweep into West PA or drive through my Potomac Maginot, but not Trenton! If you want to back up to earlier than my proposed do over point, that's fine.
134 3/13/2017 1:55:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message In other words, a new game would be fine, but not rewinding this one.
133 3/13/2017 1:54:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message I have never played with the Railroad Logistics Variant. I do not know it, and it is not used in tournaments.

I'd be game to try it, but I played this game predicated on using the normal set of rules.
132 3/13/2017 1:46:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message I think back to the end of my last move in file 12. The you can reconsider the Confed.Schlieffen plan with the RR LOC restrictions.
131 3/13/2017 1:43:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Reading more closely, this optional set of rules negates that whole maneuver as moves beyond 1 space from a RR LOC requires 2MP/space.
I think we may need to rewind a bit.
130 3/13/2017 1:38:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message post 117. Doesn't this run afoul of Railroad Logistics optional rules? The Trenton Schlieffen move is ridiculous enough, being able to send reinforcement over the Alleghenies twice to Trenton just can't be done.
129 3/11/2017 12:14:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Current .gam file in Dropbox folder.

128 3/11/2017 11:49:00 AM Spring 1862 Union Message Hey, settling in to vacation mode in Vermont. My life is kind of complicated at moment. Just moved before vacation and left the usual laptop there. I have newer laptop with, but it doesn't have the .gam file on it. Can you put another one in the drop box?

122 3/8/2017 12:51:00 AM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Neither is the Ohio at Pittsburgh.

I've seen all three, and they're nothing like the Mississippi at St. Louis or even the Ohio at Cincinnati. Don't know how they compare to, say, the Cumberland at Nashville. Only the Susquehanna at Harrisburg compares to, say, the Ohio at Parkersburg, but at Harrisburg, there's this big island to help cross in stages ...

113 3/5/2017 10:07:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Sorry, put the DC 4 at Gettysburg for the East
lower the West reinforcements to 1 St.Louis, none Cairo.

Such trans-Appalachian Schlieffen plans are so historically ridiculous it boggles the imagination, but now I'm whining. I should've seen it coming. When Stonewall tried something at vastly smaller scale, his troops near mutinied and they didn't get halfway to Grafton. The idea of taking 40,000+ troops over umpteen Appalachian ridges to Pittsburgh and then again, deep in enemy territory east to Trenton is....well, now I'm ranting!
112 3/5/2017 9:40:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Yes, the order at EoT is important. All the changes for the Political phase must come in the order of the segments listed in 3.4; within each segment, each power is free to arrange its changes at its will (trying to avoid CoFs, if rational). I was a little loose in how I described the changes, but a strict reading would have arrived at the same result; let me know if you want me to take it more slowly.
111 3/5/2017 9:37:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Your Eastern reinforcements (except for the McClellan bonus) MUST go to PA, NJ, or DE. Also, you need to forego 3 SPs due to the occupation of state capitals. Thus, your reinforcements are:

+1 AoC
max of +4 to NJ, DE, PA
max of +6 to Ohio
max of +4 to StL and IL
*Take away 3 from anywhere (except AoC)*

109 3/5/2017 5:53:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Great.
Actually, Lil'Mac the saviour of the USA brings an extra SP for his logistical prowess.
I've never really understood the order of the EoT. Seems it could have impact on CoF calculations.
108 3/5/2017 4:11:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Actually, I'm wrong about that. You have a LoC to your Eastern ports, so you may deploy up to 4 SPs in PA, NJ, and DE. So to recap:

Maximum SPs: East/Central/West/Total: 4/6/4/11
107 3/5/2017 4:06:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Note that you have no legal spaces for placing Eastern reinforcements. Moreover, you must lose an additional SP for each occupied state capital (Harrisburg, Philadelphia (yes, it counts as one), and Trenton) from your remaining reinforcements. Thus, you have 6+4-3 = 7 SPs of total reinforcements to place, with the usual Central/Western maximums.

Either player can play this card as an EC when Confederate SW is 110+. If this is the last card in a players hand or the second to last and the player holds the Emancipation Proclamation, if the condition is met, it must be played as an EC, if not it can be played as an OC. EFFECTS: 1. Union Blockade reduced by one (cannot become greater than 4 for the remainder of the game). 2. Union -2 SP Reinforcements for the remainder of the game (Union choice). 3. Union SW reduced by 10. Remove from deck if event is played. If card is played as an OC or discarded re-shuffle deck at end of the Strategy Phase.

99 3/5/2017 2:37:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message It may be inevitable, but the SW change does not occur until the PC is placed for a coastal fort.

(a) CoF means *timing* can be important and
(b) I'm likely to blindly follow the prescribed EoT algorithm and double count the SW from Fort Fisher.

Therefore, I will reverse it in my move file.
98 3/5/2017 12:46:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message We both lose 1. Fisher is captured. I can't remember if the PC is necessary before the SW change, but I'll assume it is. No way to reverse either way.

95 3/5/2017 12:04:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message I joined, but I'm rusty. Funny, France and Pope were my favorite powers. France because you've got to really work the diplomacy to succeed and the Pope because he wields divine retribution. Definitely need a long game with Papacy though - enough time to build up a castle under the protection of Hapsburgs and get to the better inquisitors.
94 3/5/2017 9:50:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message (I shouldn't complain about drawing the Pope. I've decided that the Pope should go big on the Diet of Worms, and was rewarded when I hit on 5 of 8 dice while the Prots fanned on 6. Result: no Prot spaces with Luther's excommunication looming. No Reformation targets for a turn! Bwa ha ha ... I mean, praise the Almighty!)
93 3/5/2017 9:45:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I'm in one of those playtesting groups (why do I always wind up with the Pope in these groups?). I've yet to form an opinion, but two changes I strongly favor was helping France a bit and restricting the transfer of conquered keys.

87 3/5/2017 12:55:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message A posteriori comparisons of a particular roll of the dice might expose a quirk here or there, but the validity of the result should be argued by a priori probabilities.

Prob(attacker wins, medium battle, drms +5/+2) = 86%
Prob(attacker wins, small battle, drms +4/+2) = 67%

There are more rolls that the extra SP would help you than hurt you, but you were just unlucky enough to roll one that hurt you.
86 3/5/2017 12:36:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message Take your time.
I still think it's a weakness in the CRT. Bloodier wasn't my gripe. More people ended in failure, less would've won. That's just wrong.
85 3/5/2017 12:34:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I may not get this until tomorrow.
84 3/5/2017 12:31:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message FWIW, the designer is quite clear about the CRT and Civil War History: bringing extra SPs brings bloodier battles, not "better" results.

81 3/5/2017 12:06:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message OK, that's bullshit bad design. I attack with 1 too many SPs and get a worse result than if with less. And I though the weird CRT was the sole problem with this game.

I'll intercept at Dover with the AoT with an event card I planned on using. The whole reason for trying to get back to Dover was to utilize the upcoming card in case you went after Nashville.

73 3/4/2017 9:43:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message And now the correction ...

5 vs 1 is a *medium* battle.
Dice were 2/6, modified to to 7/8, results 2*/3. You can only take 2 SPs damage (max is twice the size of my force), but you lose the battle. This brings us to the section of the rules I reread most often: 7.33. Your AoT is repulsed and must retreat to McKenzie, ending its movement there.

The fort remains at Columbus (empty), the SWs remain unchanged, Fremont remains at Dover with 2 SPs, and the AoT is at McKenzie with strength 3.

I'll include the corrections in my file.
