495 5/23/2017 4:13:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message It is indeed another Mark Hermann masterpiece.

New ACTS game created and my cards drawn. Since I'm not going first I left it to you to draw cards then set up new game in VASSAL.
494 5/23/2017 4:10:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message Dice hated me but also my fault for not doing better with those great string of campaign cards
493 5/23/2017 4:10:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message Well, its still delightful that even while you feel that game hates you in every possible way, you still are happy to play it.
492 5/23/2017 4:09:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message Sure thing about rematch. Tough breaks for you all around this game.
491 5/23/2017 4:01:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message this game hates me.

can we re-match...going to do things very differently as i think i finally know what not to do with CSA.

i will set up game 6...going to use extra 20 cards since they use that in BPA/WBC tournaments in which i hope to eventually play once i'm much better.
490 5/23/2017 3:58:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message 5*-4...this game hates me...and no gen casualties either.

you take Fayetteville.

486 5/23/2017 3:51:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message exact same here. i knew i could get a job easier and have much better pay as engineer plus i like math and science also. but my passion is history. i couldn't stand teaching in elementary or non-university though as most kids don't care that much about history and i would only want to teach poeple who had a love for history as well. but going to get a doctorate or masters in history woudl have taken many years and i didn't want to go to uinv for more than 4 years.
485 5/23/2017 3:42:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message Hmm, interesting. And you know quite a lot about history it seems. It's funny truly, at 17-18 when I was thinking what I should do after high school (or lukio around here) my first choice was to go and study history, possibly becoming a teacher. After a while I was forced to let that option go as I realized it was much more difficult to find a job in that area. So I decided that between history and maths/physics/chemistry, it was history that was better as a hobby.

481 5/23/2017 3:31:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message i graduated with engineering degree from the university of missouri science & tech in Rolla, MO (it's on the game!) which is crazy becuase even today it is a small city of about 20k people. but at the time it was the western most rail junction of Union Pacific railroad so for the battles going on in MO and AR, Rolla was the farthest they could rail goods and troops before having to be carried on wagons or by foot/horse.

I currently engineer and design and sell A/C systems.
480 5/23/2017 3:21:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message I'm just finishing my studies at the university hopefully. Studying medicine. There has been some difficulties with the master's thesis (not sure if its correct word but found it on dictionary) as I'm not that much of a researcher type. Enjoy more practical approach, working and learning things that way. Last 2 months I've been off work to finish those damn studies.

Can I ask what you do for living?

475 5/23/2017 3:02:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message True about that splitting of forces. As union I'm trying to build such a many threats that CSA is forced to use rails to multiple fronts. Its good to have 12-14 SPs worth of troops for your main assault force. Though its extremely tough to get that much.

473 5/23/2017 2:56:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message you have a lot of good medium quality generals coming.

:( looking very grim. i have learned my lesson that splitting forces and trying to make (2) 6-8 SP armies early on is just not a good recipe for success. even with getting some good recruiting cards in TN i wasn't able to keep both armies at good enough size to be potent. only one successful raid all game too.

definitely think i learned some good lessons though.
472 5/23/2017 2:54:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message I'm putting my rail moves in the same file. Will roll for generals too.

470 5/23/2017 2:44:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message 14 forces for you this turn but still plenty more than me now that i'm down 2 states and 2 block zones. thankfully MO and KY make up for a little of that.

468 5/23/2017 2:20:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #92: 2 / Baltimore Revolts
Confederate may place a friendly PC marker in Baltimore, MD, if the space is vacant.

Message from Confederate:
well, at least we will cut your reinforcements by 4!

First time i have successfully been able to play this card...you always put a fort or SP there.

they should really require a fort and SP or 2 SPs. seems a little silly that a simple un-garrisoned fort or 1 lonely SP can quell a revolt.

will do end of turn stuff along with this.
467 5/23/2017 2:20:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message I've got so many AA-modifier increasing cards this game that if it wasn't capped at 5, it could have gone up to 10. And some games you wont see single one.

460 5/23/2017 1:56:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #42: 2 / Kentucky Anarchy
Remove up to three enemy PC markers in Kentucky. You must also remove one of your own PC markers from the state if you have any there. Removal of a PC marker makes a space neutral. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
Activate PGT and march south with 1 of his SPs, grab 1 SP from JJ/Monroe, LA on way to pick up Bragg and his 1 SP and 8th MP to attack you in NO at 3-1 ratio...could win for sure even with 2-1 forces but maybe i will kill Rosie this way.
459 5/23/2017 1:53:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message very meek fighting...1-2...but the break that CSA needed although even a 2* wouldn't have done it for you.

Medium battle of Fayetteville, don't want a 10+, can't afford to lose Jackson but Forrest would hurt a lot too.

actually no, reverse those 2 cav generals...you only have 8 SPs so Forrest stays behind with his 2 SPs. if you roll a 10 and score 3 SPs and destroy my force then so be it.

US: +4 Grant/Pleasonton = 4

456 5/23/2017 1:48:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message Jackson to the rescue, BTW I got confirmed that when intercepting with Corp you can only bring up to 1 additional general with you and so now I have to make a decision to either leave Forrest behind and both his SPs or leave Wheeler and his SP as i can't bring both with me :(

Also got confirmation that if you have 3+ generals together but no army then you can only intercept with 2 generals so you have to leave excess behind and therefore might not be able to intercept with all your SPs in a space.

almost certainly will leave Wheeler behind because i need the SPs.

443 5/23/2017 1:14:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message playing 2 more! One as CSA and one as US to 1 newbie i'm teaching and 1 player with similar experience.

the newbie drew Key west and played that on first card against me so i lost St. Phillip/Jackson on first card play and blockade is already at level 1 :(

i warned him about guarding baltimore as i can reduce his reinforcments but he went ahead and sailed 2 SPs from A of P to sabine city on next move anyways and so that zone is shut down.

i saved my last card at that point to him Frederick's 1 SP and roll through to take Baltimore and deny him SPs and would't you know it...he rolled a 1 for McDowell! and i lost 1-1 and had to retreat back to manassas. so yeah, this game hates me :(

442 5/23/2017 1:08:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message No responses. Won't play interruptions to any moves.

but it makes me a better player.

i'm afraid my CSA goose is cooked in this game unless i can make some miracle moves.
440 5/23/2017 12:59:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #84: 3 / Major Campaign
Conduct up to three moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Confederate:
I have been so fortunate to get these cards and yet I have not done well with them . Forest will activate and transform into 2 SP brigade.

439 5/23/2017 12:59:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message Yup, I sure did receive it. It was most pleasant surprise! Thanks again.

CSA: +1 AJ +2 Fort = 3
423 5/23/2017 2:12:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Event #3: 1 / Forward to Richmond
Union may activate any Union army within 4 spaces of Richmond, VA. The army must enter Richmond or move as close to Richmond as possible, but may convert spaces to maintain an LOC. All SPs associated with the army must be moved (no dropping off SPs), except 1 SP may be left if the Army began its movement from a fort (if last SP, move completed). If played by the Confederate, he draws a card from the Union hand which is discarded, and the Union player follows the instructions of this card as his next card play.

Message from Union:
I know this ends again to the death of Grant. But I want to hit your forces before they are able to form an army.

i have not done a good job managing my campaign cards. I shoudl have sacrificed one of my armies early and saved campaign for end rather than using them 2 turns in a row to lead out the game turn don't you think?

i have been given pretty good hands (not great dice) but i don't think i'm using them well.
408 5/22/2017 4:51:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message forgot that your PC markers get to place before I can isolate Hooker and his SPs by taking state and flipping that lone unoccupied US space...grrr.
407 5/22/2017 4:48:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #48: 3 / Brazil Recognizes the Confederacy
Confederate gains +3 SW. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
better grab MO while I can...need the SPs since you have now shut down 2 blockade zones.
406 5/22/2017 4:47:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message Yup thats right. Rosie on a kamikaze duty.
405 5/22/2017 4:46:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message i was going to cross over with AONV but i'm afraid I will just get isolated now.
404 5/22/2017 4:45:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message ok...and you are also OOS right because i deny naval control along all those rivers in between Columbus and the fort.

but that doesn't stop you from riverine movement up and down the rivers either. but at least if you assault me up from New Orleans (unless something changes) you will start assault out of supply and therefore be OOS for battle too.
403 5/22/2017 4:45:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message I'll guess that there goes Missouri.
402 5/22/2017 4:40:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message Yes, by all means you still deny my naval control. You still have the forts up.
401 5/22/2017 4:40:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message yes, i see in rules where there is an exemption that this EC along with some raid cards can destroy resource spaces.

but i still deny naval control from St. Phillip/Jackson to Columbus right? Very critical for this next move.
400 5/22/2017 4:35:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message AS per event the PC-marker is placed yes. One popular use for the event I've read about is running past Fort Gadson to immediately destroy Columbus GA which also gives control of the fort.
399 5/22/2017 4:34:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message but i still deny naval control across the Mississipi right? from Ft. St Phillip Jackson to Columbus?
398 5/22/2017 4:32:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message so you can place a PC even though you are out of supply at that point there? because my coastal fort still stands denying you supply from ocean and my fort up river at Columbus denies supply down river.

i guess that event card doesn't say you need to be in supply at the space you end up
397 5/22/2017 4:24:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message But I didn't even want taking Forts St.Philip/Jackson. Taking New Orleans works just as well to close Western blockade zone. So there wasn't any fort or ironclad modifiers for you.
