going to do my move shortly.
582 3/19/2019 9:47:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message As far as GCACW is concerned, I have Roads to Gettysburg II. That covers the Antietam, Gettysburg campaigns and Jubal Early's raid into DC in 1864. That package contains 3 campaigns and about 25 scenarios, so there is a lot of game to be played!

I understand fully real time constraints. These jobs definitely get in the way of these hobbies! None the less, if at any point in the future, you want to try a game out, I'd be willing.

577 3/19/2019 5:49:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message i'll wait for the new log to come up. i did get that email for GCACW, thank you. i put it in my "To Do List-Games" which is overflowing :*( I wish work wasn't so busy right now. in a couple months or so I would love to start a PBEM game and learn the ropes. what titles do you own/play?
576 3/19/2019 5:44:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Just saw a mistake with my reinforcements. I added 8 SP to the AoP, not the AoT in DC.

8 SP to AoT in DC (n13)

AoP should be at n7

I will create a new vassal log and correct.

Now, over to you for CSA reinforcements...
575 3/19/2019 5:36:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message It looks like you missed a couple of things out west during the PC and attrition phases. You wrote them out but did not complete on the board itself. I corrected and detailed them in the vassal log.

Fall 1863 Reinforcements:

8 SP to DC (n15)

2 SP to Cincinnati
2 SP to Vincennes
2 SP to Bloomington

4 SP to Cairo (n9)

Over to you for CSA Reinforcements...
574 3/19/2019 5:26:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message As far as GCACW is concerned, I think the basic game is actually easier to grasp than FtP. Nothing like the FtP river or supply rules to deal with. The GCACW campaign rules to add some complexity but a lot of those rules are concerned with events in other theaters or determining when reinforcements might arrive. So while they may seem lengthy, you don't need to memorize them.

I sent you an email on 2/12/2019 listing a few good resources for learning GCACW. Let me know if you need me to resend it. The game is really fun (I still love FtP as well). It does a good job of rewarding any flanking maneuvers so just like a real ACW General, you are always looking to set up a good flank attacks. The other thing it does really well is models the failures of your subordinates to carry out your orders exactly as you want them too. Sometimes you spend a bunch of time setting up an attack and order a Grand Multi-Corps Assault only to find that 1/3 of those units actually make the attack and therefore get beat on as a result! It can be frustrating but it is also realistic of the times!

Fredericksburgs can and do happen! I'd be happy to play a game and show you the ropes if you want.
573 3/19/2019 2:28:00 AM Fall 1863 Confederate Message i got my first GCACW game recently. how hard would you say rules are to grasp, complexity wise not length, compared to FTP?

550 3/15/2019 5:17:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #3: 1 / Forward to Richmond
Union may activate any Union army within 4 spaces of Richmond, VA. The army must enter Richmond or move as close to Richmond as possible, but may convert spaces to maintain an LOC. All SPs associated with the army must be moved (no dropping off SPs), except 1 SP may be left if the Army began its movement from a fort (if last SP, move completed). If played by the Confederate, he draws a card from the Union hand which is discarded, and the Union player follows the instructions of this card as his next card play.

530 3/1/2019 5:44:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Event #85: 3 / Minor Campaign
Conduct up to two moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Union:
First Move, Hancock +3 SP depart DC and land in Ft. Philip/Jackson.

I assume DRMs are:

CSA +1 (net Amphibious DRM = +2 Ft/ -2 Union Assault / +1 Torpedo)
US +2 Force Ratio

I'll await your reaction in case you have a card or I have the DRMs wrong. You can roll it if you want or pass it back to me to roll (since I need to make another move in any case)

Over to you for reaction...
529 3/1/2019 5:36:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message Thanks for the confirmations on the OOS rules. I was not sure about the interception scenario.

Actually, on this next move, I am also a tad uncertain on as well. I write it out the way I think it should be played, but please feel free to correct if I get it wrong!
528 2/28/2019 6:04:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #34: 1 / Elite Units
Place an Elite unit marker in any space with an Army. CSA: Stonewall Bde or Hood’s Tigers. USA: Iron Bde or Wilder’s Bde. Cannot be played if all elite unit markers are in play for that side.

Message from Confederate:

526 2/28/2019 5:51:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message That battle brings up a question I have. If Hooker had tried to intercept and succeeded, would he have been out of supply for the ensuing battle in Lumberton?
A-Yes, he would be OOS because he only has supply in the port space. once he lays a PC marker there then that port can act as a supply link.

I assume that if he won the battle, then he would remain in Lumberton and would be out of supply should he be attacked again. Do agree about that point?
A-correct again.

if Hooker attacked me right now, he would also be OOS because you have to trace from the attacking space into the attacked space and his launch point has a hostile PC right now.
525 2/28/2019 5:21:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #66: 1 / Wilson's Creek
Either player may move up to two infantry SPs from the same space as if they were led by a General. This move is a Corps move and may enter enemy controlled spaces because the SPs are moving as if they are led by a general.

518 2/25/2019 6:37:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #102: 3 / First Manassas
Confederate Player may move 2 SPs using Strategic Movement from the same space using rail connections only (5 space maximum) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. OR play this card as an automatic 2 space interception. Intervening space must be friendly controlled and free of enemy SPs. The intervening space may be the one just exited by the moving enemy force. No Generals or SPs may be picked up or dropped off during the intercept.

Message from Union:

Hooker + 3sp will steam from DC and land in Wilmington NC. n7 remains in DC.

Back to you...

517 2/25/2019 6:10:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message Definite disadvantage having a new-born in the house game-wise. If I had any honor, I'd give you a 10 SW handicap!

Yes, the continued pressure in the East is not due to a lack of imagination. I keep thinking with a Amphibious Assault Mod of +2 ad 0 defense in Kentucky and some holes out West, I need to focus elsewhere. At the same time, I don't want to yield the initiative. It seems like the best short term option is to keep the pressure up in the east. The problem is time. People are going to eventually get sick of the casualties if I can't make any real headway! It is a very entertaining game though, I am really enjoying it!
516 2/25/2019 3:41:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message i want to take advantage of some openings in other theaters but Grant's relentless pressure I'm afraid is going to force me to use almost all of my cards to keep staunching the bleeding in VA.

514 2/24/2019 4:33:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #17: 3 / CSA Purchasing Agent
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any open Blockade Runner Port, no more than one SP per port, but more than one SP per Blockade Zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost.

Message from Confederate:

513 2/24/2019 4:26:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message 4*-4. a mercifully tame result all things considered. AOP down to 11 SP. Lee's AOM n4 and retreats to Chancellorsville where he picks up 1 SP there, n5. thankfully you can't continue any further this turn.
