245 12/13/2017 3:25:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Event #6: 1 / Ambush
Target any enemy cavalry general not located with an army and make a casualty die roll. On a die roll of 1-3 the cavalry general is killed, on a die roll of 4-6 there is no effect.

Message from Union:
Things are looking scary in the East again. So, weíll try a little raid in the West to keep morale up! Target Forrest in an Ambush.
244 12/12/2017 12:46:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message back to you.

Message from Confederate:
Medium battle of Ft. Monroe. AOM/11 SP vs Butler and 3 SPs at the fort.

CSA DRM: +2 force +8 Lee/Jackson/Morgan for guaranteed 10+ and 3* SPs killed.

US DRM: +2 fort

roll only for US and then a casualty check on Butler at 1 only. 1/6 chance that Butler takes 3 SPs of the South with him.
240 12/12/2017 12:32:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message and on 2nd thought, i'm not leaving Jackson behind before this battle.
239 12/12/2017 12:32:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #5: 1 / Dysentery
The person playing the card may remove one enemy SP from any space that contains more than one SP.

Message from Confederate:
Activate Lee and his AOM (10 SP).
1st-move to Richmond pick up Wheeler/cav SP (n11) (n1 in Richmond) also drop Stonewall Jackson off there.
2nd & 3rd to Williamsburg then attack Butler and his 3 SPs at Ft. Monroe. there is no interception rolls for Butler and I assume you wouldn't use an INT card on him so I will go ahead and roll for combat and if you had a card that you wanted to use we can just go back and rewind to this point.

It will be 11 vs 3;medium battle.
238 12/12/2017 12:19:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message I really wanted to march on the capital with Lee's AOM this impulse but if Curtis successfully intercepted me then I woudl be almost assured the loss since Asterisks don't count against capital spaces.

I think i'm going to lance the boil on the VA's ass known as Butler.
237 12/11/2017 10:06:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Hmm, Washington is ripe for the taking Now but I think I need to bring up reserves
236 12/11/2017 8:23:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message Result is 1/2 CSA Victory. AoT (n8) retreats back to DC. AoNMV (n6) occupies Frederick.

Message from Union:
No detached cavalry card, so I will roll it.
Medium Battle of Frederick.

1. US +1
2. CSA +6
234 12/11/2017 8:14:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message OK, that makes sense. In my tourney game, my opponent was talking about changing his DRM based upon my attack. He must have been doing the same thing (i.e. choosing different generals to conserve potential casualties).
233 12/11/2017 12:13:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Huzzah! JJ and teh entire AONV rides in and absorbs the 2 SPs and Pemberton (n7 total).

I'm going to play a little risky and use some worse generals as I already have the following DRM:
+2 fort +2 Interception +2 JJ def (have to use commanding general)
so for my 2 subordinates i will use Polk and Van Dorn and add 0 defense for subordinates.
total CSA DRM +6. i risk rolling a 7 result for only 2 SP killed but that would still likely be enough to win and it mkes the odds of me keeping a general healthy better.

only way i will change this general allocation is if you play something like detached cavalry.
will leave to you to decide if you have a card to play and if not then you can roll combat.

Message from Confederate:
Can JJ ride to the rescue of the hapless Pemberton.
4 or less and AONV rides in.
231 12/11/2017 12:05:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message always best to leave some low attack and defense stooges as generals with Lee since they can soak up general casaulties and give you opportunities to use them as subordinates when you want to keep your DRM down.
230 12/9/2017 6:32:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message In response to your post in Entry #228, I did not think about your second point (i.e. killing off you best generals if you have only good ones grouped together). I'm facing that in my tournament game as the CSA now. Hate to lose Lee or Longstreet early in a game!
229 12/4/2017 9:44:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #2: 2 / Copperheads
Reduce Union SW by two points, or place two PC markers in Ohio (must be placed in spaces free of Union SPs).

Message from Union:
Activate Burnside (AoT) w/ 5 sp (4 sp remian in DC)

1. Baltimore
2. York, pick up 2 sp (n7)
3. Baltimore, drop of 1 sp and Curtis (n6 in Baltimore), pick up Buell

4. DC pick up 4 sp (n10)
5. Frederick

Reaction?
228 12/3/2017 11:37:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message good move by you but also not bad for me to kill 2 Unions SPs for no loss. also i get PGT in my army now which is crucial as otherwise i was forced to Use Lee/Jackson/Morgan for every attack which is +8 DRM...guaranteed 10+ almost every time i roll which means generals dropping like flies if I can't get force ratio or OOS attacks.

back to you.
227 12/3/2017 11:35:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #46: 1 / Pro Union Secessionist in Tennessee
Union receives two PC markers in any Pro-Union space in Tennessee free of Confederate SPs and forts.

Message from Confederate:
my decision is rather easy. Activate A of Miss with all 10 SPs.
1st-4th: Culpepper-Gordon-Hanover-Richmond
while there pick up PGT B but no SP transfer.
5th and 6th-overrun Petersburg & Drewey's Bluff.
226 12/3/2017 9:01:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message Thank you very much for the consideration, but I am aware of that 10-1 ratio rule, so basically I am doing the second option that you mentioned. I figured that the AoM can rip through stacks aof 2 sp just as easily as stacks of 1, so I would try to pull it a bit farther from DC. Force Lee to expend another card to get back to the main area of operations.

Assuming no intercept, the remainder of my move will be:

Leave 1 sp in Drewys Bluff

3. Petersburg w/ 4 sp
4. Burkeville w/ 3 sp (leave 1 sp in Petersburg)
5. Petersburg w/ 2 sp (leave 1 sp in Burkeville)
6. Drewys Bluff w/ 2 sp
7. Williamsburg w/ 2 sp
8. Fort Monroe w/ 3 sp

I'll log this in Vassal, but if you want to intercept the initial move to Petersburg, you can go ahead and roll it. Otherwise, over to you...
225 12/3/2017 7:13:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message But since you are a new player, I would feel bad about over running two to three SP without pointing it out
224 12/3/2017 7:12:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message I am going to give you a tip that you may have not realized something. Even if you string out one SP in a bunch of different spots To cut my LOC, as long as there is no four and I maintain a 10 to one attack advantage I can score an overrun against each single SP. no losses for attacker either and dice rolling.

So unless you post your SPís in a position to block my LOC with at least 2 SP, you are asking for trouble. Unless your plan was just to get my army of the Mississippi to retreat close to the capital in which case tou would accomplish your goals
223 12/3/2017 6:05:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message Well, I still do have some "sinister intentions" in mind - if they work!

Leave 1 sp in Drewys Bluff

3. Petersburg w/ 4 sp

Reaction? Otherwise, Butler will continue again...
222 12/3/2017 2:03:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message You can proceed another space. Iím nervous about losing both SPís if I fight in a medium sized battle
221 12/3/2017 1:54:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message I thought you might have sinister intentions of cutting behind my supply lines.
220 12/3/2017 1:44:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message OK. Leave 1 sp in Williamsburg

2. Drewys Bluff w/ 5 sp

Reaction? Otherwise, Butler will continue...
219 12/3/2017 11:29:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message I will allow it for now, depending on where you move next I may choose to attempt to intercept
218 12/3/2017 9:41:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message You are correct, it is Butler, not Burnside leading the corps. Sorry about that. However, corps does have 6 sp (was built up to 6 sp during the US SM).
217 12/3/2017 9:06:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Donít have log in front of me but burnside is in DC. You mean Butler? I really screwed up if I let you put that many SPís in Ft. Monroe without a blocking force of some kind
216 12/3/2017 7:10:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #12: 3 / Cabinet Intrigue
Union SW reduced by three.

Message from Union:
Activate Burnside at Ft. Monroe.

1. Williamsburg w/ 6 sp

Reaction? otherwise Burnside will continue to move...
215 12/3/2017 7:07:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message LOL, no real good name for a second eastern army. Consider it intel on where they will be heading after shoring up things around DC!
214 12/3/2017 2:51:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #16: 2 / Grierson's Raid
Union may place two Union PC markers in any spaces within four spaces (includes river connections) of a single Union cavalry brigade. The four space range cannot be traced through Northeast Alabama and may not contain a Confederate SP or Fort, but may contain an Ironclad or Torpedoes.

Message from Confederate:
it would appear that your army commander has a poor sense of geography ;) A of Tenn in DC, pshaw!

let's form an army under Lee, Army of Miss. No SW change since ASJ is only commander ranked higher and he's in an army already.
213 12/1/2017 6:52:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message Log File is updated.
212 12/1/2017 12:48:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #41: 2 / Gov. Isham Harris, Tennessee Confederate
Confederate immediately places two SPs in any friendly controlled space in Tennessee with a LOC (both SPs are placed in the same space). SPs may not be placed in Pro-Union spaces or one occupied by Union SPs or a fort.

Message from Union:

206 11/29/2017 12:40:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message he has been wrecking me. I have almost lost VA. He secured WV and KY with a major campaign at the end of summer '65. so sad.

good news is i have had a great start to my union in my other game. early interception in Frederick against JJ's corp after he cancelled my activating on my first impulse.

no worries about Christmas break. i will be on and off during the 2 weeks of Christmas and New Years with lots of traveling to different families.
205 11/26/2017 9:02:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message Wow, 5 Campaign cards! Ouch. I assume the Union made headway somewhere with that kind of mobility.

I'll be off Xmas week, so I'm definitely looking forward to that one as well.
204 11/26/2017 6:20:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message You donít have to add that there is a CAV SP when annotating. Itís counted with regular sp even though itís also ďmarried to a generalĒ.

Very glad to hear that you had a great Thanksgiving. It is my second favorite holiday behind Christmas. I do just love this time of year if only we got more time off ;)

I am still waiting for my opponent to start in the game where I in the union. I made my first move which was an aggressive attack on Johnston Since I have good cards for my opener. Still waiting for response

I just finished 1861 as the Confederates in my other game and my opponent has drawn 5 campaign cards! Out of 15 total. Needless to say I am getting trucked right now. I sent the game journal to the organizers just to make sure there was nothing wrong as I have seen other game systems be compromised but they looked into it and said it was just a really lucky game for that guy. Unlucky for me

I am a pretty good confederate player I think but nowhere near good enough yet to manage that kind of union card situation since their main weakness is supposed to be lack of mobility which is more than solved with multiple campaign cards
203 11/25/2017 7:37:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Draw Strategy cards 7 cards drawn.

202 11/25/2017 7:36:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message Moved CSA SM to 93- in Vassal File. You mentioned it in file but forgot to move marker on board.

201 11/25/2017 6:24:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message Social stuff first! Thanksgiving was excellent. It might be my favorite Holiday. I hope you had a great one as well.

FtP Tourney is going good from a learning and enjoyment perspective. Unfortuately, in my game as the US, an army led by Lee and Longstreet destroyed the AoP and sacked DC yesterday, so that one is just about over. Other one is going a bit better. I figure even if I start 0-2, then I'll be matched up against others with the same record for rounds 3 & 4 and those should be more compeditive games.

How are you doing in your Tourney games?
200 11/25/2017 3:56:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message you are up for strat moves. hope you had a great Thanksgiving. also, how is your FTP tourney going?

Message from Confederate:

176 11/15/2017 9:36:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message That is a very good move. Forces me to choose between possible army annihilation or abandon my fort.

I thought about retreating but Iím going to play a card instead. I hate doing this but itís drastic measures time. Very good move.
175 11/15/2017 9:06:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #100: 3 / Shiloh
Confederate Player may move 5 SPs using Strategic Movement (rail connections only) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. If a general casualty occurs in a battle caused by this card, the Commanding General is eligible, this is an exception to the rules. See 4.5.

169 11/15/2017 6:47:00 AM Spring 1862 Union Message You are absolutely right about the attack being OOS. I was not thinking about the interception and assuming that Burnside would stop in Manassas and reestablish supply through DC. No problem with the pace of play and no apology necessary. Work/life definitely gets in the way of making moves.
168 11/12/2017 10:57:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #106: 3 / British Clydeside Shipyards
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any open Blockade Runner Port, no more than one SP per port, but more than one SP per Blockade zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost.

167 11/12/2017 10:49:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message sorry for delay, busy week of work and a weekend get away trip.

one thing you missed, you have to trace supply through the space from which you attack. and you attacked from Strasburg, VA which is under my Control so you are OOS for the attack. So i would have additional +2 DRM and no possibility for general casualties.

163 11/10/2017 5:14:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message I am back, so I will roll this one out. For some reason, I did not really think that move out. I envisioned you the CSA attacking there on the next Strat card and the AoP intercepting! It was Burnside after all!
162 11/10/2017 4:22:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message You can go ahead and roll since I am away from my computer now.
161 11/10/2017 4:13:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Huzzah! JJ and his army (leave one SP behind) rush out to meet the Yanks. Let me know if you want to roll combat or me

To the surprise of nobody, JJ attempts interception into Manassas. 4 or less. We will leave 1 SP behind in fort if we succeed and if interception is successful, I will use my best generals

157 11/10/2017 2:54:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #80: 1 / Southern Religious Revival
Confederate player immediately receives three SPs in a single space, and loses three SW points. SPs must be placed in a friendly controlled space (including Pro-Union spaces) with a LOC free of Union SPs.

Message from Confederate:
I'll see your 3 troops from Ms Dorothea Dix and bring in 3 SP's of my own into the AONV. one of the best cards I could possibly draw since it allows me to place them all in one spot unlike most CSA cards.
156 11/10/2017 2:51:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message I got in a few days ago. Good on you for giving it a go, i only have 7 games under my belt so I'm pretty new relative to the field but it's a great way to learn and get better.

155 11/10/2017 1:57:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message I am playing in the BPA PBEM tournament this year. I figured as long as I took the time to learn the game, there is no time like the present to try the tounament out. It has been fun and so far, I've managed to keep the CSA out of Philidelphia! :) They are letting people sign up until Nov 15 if you are interested.

No problem on your next move, get to it whenever you can. With 2 other games going for the tournament, I am getting all the FtP I want.
154 11/10/2017 1:40:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message At doctor appointment, will do move when I can
153 11/10/2017 1:38:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message BPA rules are fine! And you are right I donít think we specified.

Are you in the BPA tournament this year?
152 11/10/2017 12:45:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message I do not recall us ever specifying it. That said, I vote that we use the optional general rules (even though Mac is gone!). I was kind of assuming that we were playing by the BPA tournament rules, which include all optional rules except for the Railroad Logistics (section 19). That said, I'm flexible and am good playing with as many of the optional rules as you want.
151 11/10/2017 10:07:00 AM Spring 1862 Confederate Message That was not my intent, I forgot that forest has to be flipped twice. Did we say if we were playing with the optional general school and bonuses? Those are found in general section. Mac gets a SW bonus for being head of an army near DC, also gets an SP every turn of near DC, Van Dorn can become cavalry commander, Forrest can command two instead of just 1 SP. Sheridan can be cavalry commander and lastly, cavalry commanders that are killed use their replacement general when they return
150 11/10/2017 5:57:00 AM Spring 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Event #10: 3 / Dorothea Dix
Union immediately receives three SPs. Place in the Union Capital or in any space (friendly or not) that contains a Union army with a LOC.

Message from Union:
3 sp to AoP (n10)
149 11/10/2017 5:55:00 AM Spring 1862 Union Message In the Vassal file, you are showing the "2 sp" Forrest Cavalry in Dover. I think your intent was to use the "1 sp" version since you reduced the strength of the Dover forces from 3 sp to 2 sp. I have flipped the Forrest Calvary marker to show the the "1 sp" version. If that was not your intent, go ahead and adjust.
148 11/9/2017 1:55:00 AM Spring 1862 Confederate Message your move first good sir.
