542 2/21/2018 12:27:00 PM Spring 1864 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #126: 1 / Valley Devastation
If Union infantry SPs occupy all three Shenandoah Valley spaces the Union player places a destroyed Resource marker in all Shenandoah Valley spaces. These destroyed Resource markers cannot be removed and prevent the Confederate player from using the Shenandoah valley as a supply source for the remainder of the game. Remove from deck if event is played.

Either player may move 2 SPs using Strategic Movement from the same space using rail connections only (10 space maximum) to the same space with a General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more enemy SPs or fort. OR play this card as an automatic 2 space interception. Intervening space must be friendly controlled and free of enemy SPs. The intervening space may be the one just exited by the moving enemy force. No Generals or SPs may be picked up or dropped off during the intercept.

Message from Union:
OK, this is a little complicated, but here goes...
use this card to relieve Grant from command of the AoM at no penalty, leaving Rosecrans in charge...
Grant transfers to AoP, relieving McDowell who is demoted and placed on the track...and Grant becomes Commander of the AoP...USA SW drops by McDowell's p-rating (6) with FOW (-3), meaning that the US SW is now 104-6-3= 95-
CSA is still 34-

476 2/7/2018 4:52:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #14: 3 / Red River Campaign
May not be discarded by the Union. Union must use this card as an OC. If at the conclusion of movement, a Union SP is not on or adjacent to Grand Ecore, LA, then the Union loses 5 SW points. If a Union SP is in one of the objective spaces then a Union PC marker can immediately be placed to convert the space or spaces. Remove from deck if Union plays card.

472 2/7/2018 10:23:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Event #59: 2 / Farragut
Union may make a naval more with up to three SPs plus one general. Move may pass one ungarrisoned fort without “running the guns” to conduct an amphibious assault (may not pass an ironclad). Ignore first torpedo encountered during naval move. If the port space is captured it immediately receives a Union PC marker. Add +2 to Running the Guns die roll.

Message from Union:
No worries on the other...I wanted to make sure we got it right, too...
Use this to send 2 SP from AoC in DC to Fort Morgan...USA will be +4 for ratio...and CSA will be +2 for the fort..CSA will inflict 1 SP damage...so I will roll for whether the USA captures the Fort...US will need a 3-6 to win the battle....
471 2/6/2018 9:35:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message OK, I'll remove the US PC marker in Memphis. And now, back over to you ...
470 2/6/2018 9:30:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message Sorry Paul, I can't create an army there. Need at least a 2 card and need to be in a CSA controlled space. I submit something else shortly.
469 2/6/2018 9:27:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message James emailed me and you are right. There is no way to move the sp to Ft. Morgan in a single card play. Gen cannot be left alone and Gen can not accompany the sp using riverine movement.

Therefore, I will use the card to form the Army of the Mississippi in Dover with Jackson in command, Ewell 2nd in command and 6 sp.

Back to you...
468 2/6/2018 12:50:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message I think the only way for the CSA to make that move is as a division move, which does not include a General. If the General moves, you have to activate the General, but even then, you can't make a riverine movement with a corps.
Its important, so please ask James...I am in no hurry. Best! Paul
467 2/6/2018 12:46:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message Paul, thanks, I will check if needed. However, before I do, do you think I could have the general move to the fort with the sp?
466 2/6/2018 12:46:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message So much for voice dictation...here is what I really said:
Jeff, I don’t think you can do that move. I think it is 5.34, but you can’t voluntarily take away a general’s last SP voluntarily. Please feel free to ask James and get his opinion on it. There are cases where, in shifting generals and troops you can temporarily have a general without troops but you have to fix it by the end of the move. Here you are not bringing any troops by the end of the move so I think it is not a move you can make. Please feel free to ask James...I want us both to be sure before we move on. Thx!

464 2/5/2018 8:23:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #4: 1 / Costly Mistake
Pick an enemy army with two or more subordinate generals (includes Cavalry Generals) and randomly determine a target general. On a die roll of 1-3 the chosen general is killed and removed from play. On a die roll of 4-6 the general is wounded and removed from play, but re-enters during the reinforcement phase of the next game turn.

Reynolds +1 SP from Paducah to Little Rock by naval move (show it as empty)...and that is the end of the campaign.

Message from Confederate:
Ok, thanks for the retreat clarifications. Jackson will try to retreat again. Need 1-5.
453 2/3/2018 9:31:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message Just to keep track..AIM is moving:
1-2. Columbus Ky (fort destroyed, space converted...SW changes apply...US SW 103+ and CSA SW 42-)
3. To Humboldt, pursuing Jackson..
At this point, and forgive me if you already know this...Jackson has to roll again to retreat another space...so what is his reaction?
452 2/3/2018 9:26:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message Yep, no partial retreats. A Gen can only lead 6 so in an attack but he can organize the retreat of a much larger force, so everyone can go. The tricky thing is when a lower p-rated general retreats into a space with a higher p-rated general...in that case, the higher p-rated gen now becomes commander for retreat and battle purposes. For instance, if Jackson retreated into s space with ASJ, you’d have to roll ASJ’s defense value to retreat again.

451 2/3/2018 8:03:00 AM Summer 1863 Confederate Message OK, thanks for clarifying that.

I also checked and believe that it is not possible to conduct a "partial retreat", i.e. Forrest Cav Brig can not retreat individually and leave the rest of the corps with the fort. Is that your understanding as well?

Assuming no "partial retreats" possible, I will still retreat the entire force and you may continue to move...
450 2/3/2018 7:30:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message Correct on the retreat but not on the capture of the ungarrisoned fort. If this was an AA, the fort would fight back and the result would be a battle and the USA would take casualties. Because this is a land attack, against an ungarrisoned fort, there is no battle, and the US takes no casualties. Mark Herman clarified this in post #30412 on the Consimworld website, when he said "If a space is occupied solely by an UNGARRISONED fort (coastal or counter), then there is no battle, the non-coastal fort counter is removed, and the moving force can continue its movement."
Please feel free to confirm, because this is important in the defense of the MIss River...What happens here, if Jackson still chooses to retreat is that AoM will capture and destroy the fort, without a battle, and AoM may keep moving...
WHat I intend, is to capture and destroy the Fort, convert the space, and keep moving...but I will wait if you want to double check on the website. This game has a lot of nuances (which is why I like playing it!) and this is one.
Let me know when you are ready for me to keep going. Thx!
449 2/3/2018 6:03:00 AM Summer 1863 Confederate Message Just to be clear, Jackson retreated with 2 sp including Cav Brig. I believe that the fort and garrison still fights and the result is 1*/1 due to the DRMs (US +9, CSA +2). However, if I am incorrect in that assumption, let me know. Otherwise, you may continue ...
