CSA: +1 AS Johnston's Def plus +1 Pemberton's Def = +2.

Updated file coming. Please verify then roll for both sides.
88 11/20/2017 10:40:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message Rosecrans loses 1 SP to 2 and the Union captures the fort. CSA loses 1 SW plus 3 FoW for a net loss of -4 to 106.

86 11/20/2017 10:36:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message OK, after rereading the 6.41 Amphibious Assault procedure, I applied the modifiers incorrectly. See below for the text. The Union drm is actually +5 (+4 force ration vs ungarrisoned fort and +1 for Rosecrans battle rating = +5). You get a +2 for the fort.

"If both sides have DRMs, then subtract the lesser from the greater to obtain a single DRM. After subtracting one sides’ DRMs from the other, the final Amphibious Assault modifier may not be greater than +3; that is the maximum benefit for this category (although other DRMs, such as battle ratings and force ratios, are applied still)."

60 11/7/2017 10:39:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message Re: Attrition

The SP track for the AoTenn still shows 5 SP, which would cause it to drop to 4. But, if I'm reading your move correctly, it's now in Frankfort with 2 SP.

The ANV with 6 SP should drop to 5. I'll send an updated file. By the way, I think whichever of us moves last in the turn should send a "last card" file that's separate from the End of Turn file. That way it's easier to back things up before the Eot stuff changes everything.

59 11/7/2017 10:34:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message I don't think my SW count is right either (the Vassal file still shows the starting values). I lost 5 SW when I couldn't reach the objective space of the Red River Campaign card, bring my count to 95-.

Converting WV and MO gives me another 15 + 2 FoW = 112+.
Confederate SW is 110+.
58 11/7/2017 10:24:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message A few comments.

For much of your move you wrote comments like the following:

Medium battle
US DRM +2 Generals +3 Ratio
Battle auto US Victory 2/1

It's fine with me if the US gets an auto victory, but I think you meant Confederates there. :-)

Second, with 7 spaces under Union control, I think Missouri and its 10 SW gain go to the Union.

Except for your two generals we get no reinforcements on the next turn.

Either player must play this card as an EC on the Strategy Round immediately following a Union large or medium battle victory. Confederate loses 10 SW and 3 SPs (his choice). Union loses 5 SW. 52 11/6/2017 4:48:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message You're right. I should have read further. The example is right underneath the rules section I quoted. Sorry for the confusion.

My last card coming up.
51 11/6/2017 4:35:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message I think my move is legal

5.32 say too

"Once a Corps leaves its initial activation space, generals who have higher political ratings than the active general commanding the Corps can be picked up and dropped off, but the active general is still in command"

In the rules, there is an example with Burnside and Fremont with same situation
50 11/6/2017 4:32:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message This game is not particularly complex, but it has a lot of nuances and finer points that affect both strategy and mechanics. I don't have another face-to-face opponent available in my area, so I have to play either by email or at conventions. In between those games, I keep making these sort of mistakes and have to familiarize myself with the rules once again with each new contest.

The same holds true with strategy. For example, if I'd been paying attention, instead of building the fort in Harpers Ferry, I should have activated the AoP and whacked the guys in Manassas before they had a chance to form the ANV.
49 11/6/2017 4:24:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message I'm not trying to be overly picky here, David, but I don't think you can do that either. Price can't take Polk with him due to 5.32 (below) since both started in the activation space. The reverse is legal -- Polk can move Price -- but you'd have to activate Polk and that would take a 3-Ops card.

5.32 Corps Movement Procedure

...The Strategy Rating of the general being activated for the Corps move determines the OC cost. Any general in a space may be activated, not necessarily the general with the highest political rating, but if an additional general moves with the Corps from the activation space, his political rating must be equal to or lower than the activated general....

Change my last action

Price w/1
1 Dover pick up 1
2 Paducah pick up 1 SP and Polk
3 Columbus drop Polk and 1 SP
4 Humboldt
5 Memphis Price w/2
47 11/6/2017 2:10:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Question about your move:

Per 5.34 I don't think you can leave Polk with no SPs in Paducah, which would happen if Price takes both SPs there. You could move Price with 1 SP to Dover, pick up both SPs there, then complete the rest of your move as described. That way Polk would never be without 1 SP, but Dover would be left with 0.

You can't move Polk along with Price because Polk's political rating is higher than Price's.

Please advise.

Union may place two Union PC markers in any spaces within four spaces (includes river connections) of a single Union cavalry brigade. The four space range CAN be traced through Northeast Alabama. These PC Markers (in contravention of rule 11.3D), CAN be placed in blockade runner ports/ and or resource spaces devoid of Confederate SPs or forts (but may contain an Ironclad or Torpedoes), resulting in their immediate destruction. Remove from deck if event is played.

22 11/1/2017 2:00:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #17: 3 / CSA Purchasing Agent
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any open Blockade Runner Port, no more than one SP per port, but more than one SP per Blockade Zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost.

Message from Union:
Activate Fremont in St. Louis.
Moves with 2 SP (StL n0) to Cincinnati and picks up the 1 SP there (n0).
Drops off 1 SP each in Falmouth, Lexington, and Frankfort KY.

That may be the first useful move I've ever gotten out of Fremont. I could have used the card to convert West VA, but this delays KY from going over to the Rebels for at least a turn.
21 11/1/2017 1:06:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #103: 3 / Seven Days/Chattanooga
Either player may move 2 SPs using Strategic Movement from the same space using rail connections only (10 space maximum) to the same space with a General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more enemy SPs or fort. OR play this card as an automatic 2 space interception. Intervening space must be friendly controlled and free of enemy SPs. The intervening space may be the one just exited by the moving enemy force. No Generals or SPs may be picked up or dropped off during the intercept.

These destroyed Resource markers cannot be removed and prevent the Confederate player from using the Shenandoah valley as a supply source for the remainder of the game. Remove from deck if event is played.
