I did a rally in 3 provinces
Then I did a rampage with 4 hidden warbands in Remi.
This will force the 4 blue warbands OUT.
Belgae will not allow them a place to retreat.
File reflects rally, and the revealed 4 Belgae warbands.
Can the blue retreat to a province with no control?
Next Card has not been drawn.

Aedui passed to get the next event, drew the next card which is even more important for the Aedui to have, so we passed again.

Did a Raid and Enlist (march)
Why are there blue pieces in Belgae?
Anyway, raid in 6 provinces netted 7 resources, including 2 from blue as an entry tax.
Enlist created two german marches, both into Roman Gual.
Rome UP on the Pompey card

The playbook specified that the card wipes out 5 warbands, doesn't matter on the faction.
Yeah, the cards button solved that problem.
This game looks like a lot of chaos

at the risk of kibbitzing, I suppose a possible choice for the Belgae is to pass... let the Romans take the current and battle in Nervii... probably retreat, and just take the damage... then, Belgae take the Cat. event to put their tribes back...
but, then Rome is in the space, with Hidden Auxilia... they would most likely get to act before the Belgae again (if Belgae take the Cat. event) and could battle/ambush there in Nervii then, and retreat would not be possible...
|47||11/17/2017 9:36:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
yes, the unshaded part of the Catuvolcus event could remove the 2 Belgic tribes and 5 warbands... (I guess one of those could be the German warband, since it doesn't say the warbands have to be the same faction...)
if you pass though, the Romans could take the Arduenna event to march into Nervii and Battle there... (Rome couldn't ambush as the event only allows a Command...) looks like Rome could potentially do 9 damage if they brought everything in Treveri... half that if the Belgae retreat, but then the 2 tribes would be the first casualties...
not a great choice either way...

Byron, you wouldn't be able to Enlist in the Ubii region as it is not adjacent to your leader... most Special activities need to be with or adjacent to leaders... You could Enlist in the Sugrambri region...
"4.5.1 Enlist... The affected Regions also must be within one Region of Ambiorix or have the Belgic Successor in it..."

|23||11/8/2017 7:32:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
the Aedui and place, remove, or some combo of both, when doing Suborn... and there are no restrictions on how many warbands are involved... you could place 3 of yours, remove 3 enemy, place 2 of yours, and remove 1, etc... the only restriction is only 1 base can be removed, or placed (but not both...)
but also, in this game, the Aedui have to pay for Suborn... 2 for a base, and 1 for warbands... so, as you removed 1 base and 2 warbands, that would cost the Aedui 4...
|22||11/8/2017 7:28:00 PM||Turn 1||Aedui||Message||
Did a Rally and Suborn. I placed a citadel in Bituriges and a couple of warbands. I did a Suborn in Alesia. I removed the Arverni Ally and two warbands. If I understand right, I don't PLACE any of my own pieces ever with Suborn, just remove or place another faction, is that correct? If not, I may play that differently.
The Belgia are up.
|21||11/7/2017 2:02:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
another little wrinkle... against all other factions, if ambushed, is Caesar is among the Defenders he can still allow the Romans to fire back (after taking losses) and roll to possibly retain lost pieces if he rolls a 4-6...
except, against the Belgae Caesar has to roll a 5 or 6... the Belgae are the best fighters among the Gauls...
|20||11/7/2017 1:48:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
just to highlight it, another difference with FS is that Marching puts all moving pieces to Hidden... a lot of the COIN games don't do that... and you can March in place to go Hidden...
if warbands are Scouted, a March merely removes the Scouted marker, it would take a second March command to get them to Hidden... (a reason Scout is effective... it denies the use of a Hidden piece for the things that require them for at least 2 more commands...)

|17||11/7/2017 11:14:00 AM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
yes, correct... except the Retreat halves that 9.5 damage to 4.25, (and rounds down to 4) which is why only 4 Belgic pieces are removed, and 1 warband escapes...
|16||11/7/2017 11:06:00 AM||Turn 1||Roman||Message||
OK, let's see if I can work this out - Belgae takes the retreat option.
Rome does 91/2 casualties.
6 for legions
1 for Caesar
21//2 for auxiliaries
Belgic tribe is the first loss, then 3 warbands
Remaining war band retreats to Nervii
|15||11/7/2017 8:58:00 AM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
Rome, I think in this case you could assume the Belgae retreat to Nervii... that way they can save 1 warband... if they don't retreat, they'd lose everything, and wouldn't do any damage to Rome anyway... so, there's no reason not to save a warband, instead of losing it for nothing...
|14||11/6/2017 1:26:00 PM||Turn 1||Roman||Message||
Roman limited is Roman Battle in Treveri.
Belgae to decide wether they will retreat after the attack.
|13||11/5/2017 3:55:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
also, you cannot Raid resources away from a faction that has a Citadel (or Fort) in the space...
|12||11/5/2017 3:50:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
just fyi, the Citadels act like Forts for the Gallic factions... they halve battle damage if defending in a space with a Citadel...
Aedui Suborn cannot remove a Citadel...
The Roman "Besiege" special ability, though, is annoyingly effective at removing Citadels...
the Belgic have one Citadel available to place, but there are no cities in the Belgic home territories... (the Belgic would have to move elsewhere and take a city in order to be able to place it...)
|11||11/5/2017 3:45:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
Arverni did the same as last time... Rally in 3 spaces (so Command only)... placed an Ally in Aulerci, placed a Citadel in Alesia, and placed a Citadel in Gergovia and 4 warbands in that space (because Vercingetorix is there)
Rome is second up
|10||11/5/2017 3:44:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
it's a bit subtle, but each Tribe space has a little scroll of sorts underneath it with the name of that Tribe/space...
the name of the region is the one with the name in the slightly bigger font, and the scroll thingy is yellowish... the other scrolls in the region are silverish...
(so, the region where the Aedui just moved to and placed an Ally is the "Pictones" region...)

I can bring Germans onto the map with the event
OR I can dispatch Romans with the "trap" mentioned.
And who am I to pass up a trap?
Battle and Ambush in
well I cant find the region names
The three Belgic region with Belgic control and more Hidden Belgea than hidden defenders.
All are adjacent to the Ambiobrix, so Ambush will apply.
Which means we can skip the retreat question.
SW Province Atrebates
3 Warbands =1.5 losses (FRD) so one R. Auxila removed
NW Province Morini
4 warbands =2 losses, so both Romans removed
NE Province Nervii
4warbands+1 Leader =5 but half due to fort + 2.5(FRD)
so two Auxila removed

Most of the COIN games involve thinking of what your opponent can and Cant do.

Arverni did 3 Rallys... (for a Command only)
note that Arverni get a +1 bonus when placing Warbands... other factions don't get this... also, Arverni get to place a warband for a present Leader... Aedui and Belgic don't get this... (Aedui doesn't have a leader anyway)
also, Vercingetorix can place an Ally tribe and warbands in the same Rally... others cannot do this... that's why I said earlier that the Arverni breed like rabbit...
Romans are second up on this first card...
|3||11/3/2017 8:02:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
if you note how the deck is constructed, you'll see the first Winter card is in the 3rd stack of 5... therefore, we'll have at least 10 cards, and potentially up to 15, before we get to the first winter card/victory check... so, there's time to deal with the Belgic, and/or Rome... but not tons of time...
|2||11/3/2017 7:57:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
you'll note the size of the board is not that big, as compared to most of the other COIN games... a note about victory conditions...
in the Vassal module, the "Available forces" buttons, and we can all each other's, show our respective cards, and how many tribes etc.. everyone has one the map (highest uncovered number)
Rome cares about the Tribes spaces, and wants either no tribes on it (ie Subdued), Dispersed, or their own Roman ally tribes...
Arverni has 2 conditions... off-map Legions are more than 6 (this is usually not easy to do), and more than 8 Arverni tribes or Citadels...
Aedui needs to have more allied tribes or Citadels than any other faction... Aedui's card has a "other most allies" counter on their card to show that....
Belgic wants "population controlled" plus their own tribes/citadels to be more than 15... and for control, they have to outnumber everyone else in the space
|1||11/3/2017 7:51:00 PM||Turn 1||Arverni||Message||
initial game file is in the same COIN folder we used for FitL... I drew cards, and Arverni happened to be first, so I'll go first...
in this scenario, the Belgic start within 1 of their victory condition... (and Rome is within 2)... as the scenario description says, as this scenario starts the Belgic have "sprung a trap..." you can see that in the Nervii region... some Roman forces are surrounded by the Belgic
