i'm doing my strat moves and generals in one phase rather than waiting for your strat moves before i place my generals since I know where your cav will go and Bragg and Smith don't affect me that much. this way i can start planning my turn a little and draw cards.

I'm doing end of year stuff on turn 1 in this game and i wanted to be sure of something. I took Ft. St P/J during the turn. I know you don't place PC marker until PC phase or i play OPs to put one down (i didn't).
2 parts:
1. Does the Union immediately after taking the fort (but no PC placed) get back naval control across the MS river and tributaries all the way up to Columbus, KY or is it still denied from NO/Ft. St P/J until the time the Union PC gets placed?

2. If Union naval control is still denied, how does teh timing work in PC phase. CSA player has a lone SP in a neutral Springfield, MO and on my last move I dropped SPs in Gainesville, Elizabeth and Little Rock thus blocking supply to LR's resource even if they can trace over the river border at LR.

I'm guessing to avoid this conundrum, the rules are that the fort in St. P/J has already stopped denying naval control once I took it but if not, then timing matters as the CSA division in Springfield, MO could still trace supply to a Memphis, TN via the neutral spaces in MO through to New Madrid, MO into TN.

after typign this all up i decided it's probably best if i just take a picture of the board and attach it. Only change down at bottom (not pictured) is that there is 1 Union SP on Ft. St. P/J but no PC yet. i'm in the PC phase of end of turn.

32 12/7/2017 12:19:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message Springfield MO lone CSA division can no longer trace to any resource space if they can't trace through new Madrid which lies on the MS river. I need to ask James Pei (Moderator) if that took effect at end of turn with me placing my PC on Ft. St. Phillip/Jackson. I assume it does and you are OOS and can't place a PC now in MO but i want to make sure.

30 12/7/2017 12:10:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message thankfully you played a cancellation card to allow me to go last, it was a good move to stop me from eliminating JJ, but it often isn't worth it because you give up the last move of the turn unless you have an enemy discard card in your hand too.

1st-2nd: Ironton-Cairo pick up that 1 SP (n3)
3rd-5th: Ironton-Greenville (all MO)-Gainesville, AR and drop 1 SP there (Fremont n2)
6th: Elizabeth, AR drop 1 SP (Fremont n1)
7th: Little Rock, AR and halt.

The only way to make it so the fort isn’t an auto lose is to send 1 SP via riverine movement. That can be done with any OP card. SP needs fk r able to travel port to port. Little Rock and Columbus both would work back when you had denial of union naval control

If played by the Confederate player place or flip 2 PC makers in a Missouri space (except St. Louis), which does not contain Union SPs or forts. If played by the Union player increase Union SW by 1 for increased resolve due to atrocities. Remove from deck if event is played.

Add flags to Missouri and St. Joseph.

My only legal play to stop the taking of the fort was to move the army from Columbus down to the fort, right?

May not be discarded by the Union. Union must use this card as an OC. If at the conclusion of movement, a Union SP is not on or adjacent to Grand Ecore, LA, then the Union loses 5 SW points. If a Union SP is in one of the objective spaces then a Union PC marker can immediately be placed to convert the space or spaces. Remove from deck if Union plays card.

Message from Union:
way too early to draw this card. no chance of being able to get to or close to Grand encore.

We sail 2 SP from DC (n0) to attack Ft. St. Phillip/Jackson.

Since the fort is unoccupied it is a guaranteed 1/1 or better for Union and the fort is taken with 1 SP remaining. no PC marker and SW change until end of round or until i play an OP to convert to my control so i can't sail past teh fort yet. It does however mean that you no longer have denial of naval control across the MS river and its tributaries so you can't cross any blue lines across those rivers until you establish another fort or ironclad to have 2 blocking points between Columbus, KY and somewhere else.

Union loses 5 SW for failing to meet objective n95-.

If Union infantry SPs occupy all three Shenandoah Valley spaces the Union player places a destroyed Resource marker in all Shenandoah Valley spaces. These destroyed Resource markers cannot be removed and prevent the Confederate player from using the Shenandoah valley as a supply source for the remainder of the game. Remove from deck if event is played.

Either player may remove or demote from army command one general for no SW penalty. Penalties for promoting a general with a lower political value still apply. OR remove ANY non-commanding general (even second in commands) from the game.

1st-Frederick and drop 1 SP (n2 in Frederick, n2 in A of P)
2nd & 3rd-move to Harper's Ferry, pick up those 2 SPs (n4 in A of P) - Attack JJ in Winchester.

Will wait for response of either a retreat roll or a card to potentially interrupt the move.
