43 12/13/2017 11:17:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message I'm only going to list the new SP count for location from which troops are moving if the new amount is >0. most locations from which i move will be all troops so i will leave out the n0 in those cases.

1 from Gainville, AR > AOP (n4)
1 each from Springfield IL & Indianapolis IN > Bloomington, IN (n6)
2 from DC (n6) > Grafton WV (n4)
1 from Elizabeth, AR > AOP (n5)

2 from Cairo IL (n2) > AOP (n8)
1 from DC (n1) > Ft. Monroe, VA (n2)
1 from Cincinatti, OH (n2) > Baltimore, MD (n4) and that is it.

on to rolling for genreals
42 12/13/2017 11:03:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message no worries, just letting you know. i know you are new so some of this isn't what you might be used to doing.

i'm doing my strat moves and generals in one phase rather than waiting for your strat moves before i place my generals since I know where your cav will go and Bragg and Smith don't affect me that much. this way i can start planning my turn a little and draw cards.
41 12/13/2017 8:04:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Not a big deal, but in tournament play the convention is to list the new strength of every space after placing forces as in. 1 in Sabine City, TX nX
40 12/13/2017 6:41:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message West Gulf - Sabine City. East Gulf - Columbus, South Atlantic - Charleston, North Atlantic - Wilmington
Tx - Sabine City. Ms - Vicksburg. VA - Manassas. Tn - Polk. NC - Wilmington. SC - Marion. MS - Corinth. GA - Columbus. AL - Selma

39 12/11/2017 6:12:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message waiting for you to place reinforcements before I can do strategic movement.
38 12/8/2017 5:10:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message West Zone:
4 in Cairo (n4)

Central Zone:
4 in Bloomington, IN (n4)
2 in Cincinatti, OH (n3)

East zone:
8 in DC (n8)

over to you for the CSA SP placement
37 12/8/2017 5:04:00 PM Spring 1861 Union End Turn
36 12/8/2017 5:04:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message attrition:
CSA: JJ loses 1 in Manassas (n2)

US: AOP loses 1 in Frederick (n3)
35 12/8/2017 5:01:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message OK, PC phase. start from West to East.
MO: Springfield-CSA
AR: All to US-Gaineville, Elizabeth, Little Rock
Little Rock is destoryed with following SW effects:
CSA -1 resource -3 FOW = 96-
US +1 resource +2 FOW = 98+

Ft. St. Phillip/Jackson now falls and naval control is now established for Union along all rivers except at one port in Columbus, KY.
CSA SW: -1 fort = 95-
US SW: +1 fort = 99+

WV: Grafton (US)

that should be it for PC and no Border state change, no CSA state and no state raids. on to attrition.
34 12/8/2017 4:34:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message thanks for the answers via email James. I can finish the end of turn phase now.
33 12/7/2017 12:28:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message email copy with JPG sent to Moderator and opponent. text is here for record also:

James,

I'm doing end of year stuff on turn 1 in this game and i wanted to be sure of something. I took Ft. St P/J during the turn. I know you don't place PC marker until PC phase or i play OPs to put one down (i didn't).
2 parts:
1. Does the Union immediately after taking the fort (but no PC placed) get back naval control across the MS river and tributaries all the way up to Columbus, KY or is it still denied from NO/Ft. St P/J until the time the Union PC gets placed?

2. If Union naval control is still denied, how does teh timing work in PC phase. CSA player has a lone SP in a neutral Springfield, MO and on my last move I dropped SPs in Gainesville, Elizabeth and Little Rock thus blocking supply to LR's resource even if they can trace over the river border at LR.

I'm guessing to avoid this conundrum, the rules are that the fort in St. P/J has already stopped denying naval control once I took it but if not, then timing matters as the CSA division in Springfield, MO could still trace supply to a Memphis, TN via the neutral spaces in MO through to New Madrid, MO into TN.

after typign this all up i decided it's probably best if i just take a picture of the board and attach it. Only change down at bottom (not pictured) is that there is 1 Union SP on Ft. St. P/J but no PC yet. i'm in the PC phase of end of turn.

Thanks for your time.

Jonathan
32 12/7/2017 12:19:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message Springfield MO lone CSA division can no longer trace to any resource space if they can't trace through new Madrid which lies on the MS river. I need to ask James Pei (Moderator) if that took effect at end of turn with me placing my PC on Ft. St. Phillip/Jackson. I assume it does and you are OOS and can't place a PC now in MO but i want to make sure.
31 12/7/2017 12:13:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message PC phase:
no change of capital. on to placing PCs for in supply infantry and removing enemy PCs for in or out of supply Cav brigades (none on board but for future reference).
30 12/7/2017 12:10:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message thankfully you played a cancellation card to allow me to go last, it was a good move to stop me from eliminating JJ, but it often isn't worth it because you give up the last move of the turn unless you have an enemy discard card in your hand too.
29 12/7/2017 12:10:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #88: 3 / Minor Campaign
Conduct up to two moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Union:
gifted with a very nice hand for the first turn.

1st activation of the campaign:
2 SPs from Pittsburg move 2 MPs and finish in Grafton, WV.

2nd activation of the campaign:
Fremont and all 2 SPs-
1st-2nd: Ironton-Cairo pick up that 1 SP (n3)
3rd-5th: Ironton-Greenville (all MO)-Gainesville, AR and drop 1 SP there (Fremont n2)
6th: Elizabeth, AR drop 1 SP (Fremont n1)
7th: Little Rock, AR and halt.

will do end of turn stuff in a separate vassal log.
28 12/7/2017 11:24:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message and if i don't make a play for a couple days, please feel free to poke and remind me to make a play. especially when i am busy i sometimes forget. plus i have about 12 different ACTS games over different titles going. i went a little crazy :(
27 12/7/2017 10:45:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message i did see your email just been busy. and always best to send messages as it relates to moves here on ACTS also as its part of the game record.
26 12/7/2017 2:07:00 AM Spring 1861 Confederate Message (Responded by email, but in case you missed it there for some reason, Kansas City is the other location)
25 12/4/2017 9:00:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message What is other location besides saint Joseph for flags?

The only way to make it so the fort isn’t an auto lose is to send 1 SP via riverine movement. That can be done with any OP card. SP needs fk r able to travel port to port. Little Rock and Columbus both would work back when you had denial of union naval control
24 12/4/2017 6:57:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #123: 1 / Quantrill’s Raiders
If played by the Confederate player place or flip 2 PC makers in a Missouri space (except St. Louis), which does not contain Union SPs or forts. If played by the Union player increase Union SW by 1 for increased resolve due to atrocities. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
Add flags to Missouri and St. Joseph.

My only legal play to stop the taking of the fort was to move the army from Columbus down to the fort, right?
23 12/1/2017 12:26:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #14: 3 / Red River Campaign
May not be discarded by the Union. Union must use this card as an OC. If at the conclusion of movement, a Union SP is not on or adjacent to Grand Ecore, LA, then the Union loses 5 SW points. If a Union SP is in one of the objective spaces then a Union PC marker can immediately be placed to convert the space or spaces. Remove from deck if Union plays card.

Message from Union:
way too early to draw this card. no chance of being able to get to or close to Grand encore.

We sail 2 SP from DC (n0) to attack Ft. St. Phillip/Jackson.

Since the fort is unoccupied it is a guaranteed 1/1 or better for Union and the fort is taken with 1 SP remaining. no PC marker and SW change until end of round or until i play an OP to convert to my control so i can't sail past teh fort yet. It does however mean that you no longer have denial of naval control across the MS river and its tributaries so you can't cross any blue lines across those rivers until you establish another fort or ironclad to have 2 blocking points between Columbus, KY and somewhere else.

Union loses 5 SW for failing to meet objective n95-.
22 11/30/2017 11:26:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #126: 1 / Valley Devastation
If Union infantry SPs occupy all three Shenandoah Valley spaces the Union player places a destroyed Resource marker in all Shenandoah Valley spaces. These destroyed Resource markers cannot be removed and prevent the Confederate player from using the Shenandoah valley as a supply source for the remainder of the game. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
Division Move, 1 SP from Little Rock to Springfield
21 11/29/2017 12:37:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message your move.

20 11/27/2017 3:05:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #64: 1 / USS Kearsarge sinks USS Alabama
Union SW increased by one.

Message from Union:
Divisional move, 1 SP from Philly to DC (n2)
19 11/27/2017 2:56:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message shoudl have added AOP n4, JJ/PGT n 3
18 11/27/2017 2:55:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message 1-1 and no * so tie goes to defense. a rather bloodless first clash. will do my move in separate log.

Message from Union:
Medium battle of Frederick, MD (JJ and 4 SP vs AOP and 5 SP).

CSA DRM: +1 JJ off

US DRM: +1 McDowell def +2 fort = +3
16 11/27/2017 2:53:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message so with the 1 left behind that is n1 DC and n5 in Frederick.
15 11/27/2017 2:52:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message A of P will also take advantage of the fort in DC and take 4 SPs with leaving 1 behind (only allowed if there is a fort in space of intercepting army or if interception force woudl exceed its limit (I.E. an army can only intercept with 15 SP's, their max movement amount).
14 11/27/2017 2:48:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message huzzah! the A of P rallies the troops. there are no cards you can play to affect combat since I don't have any cavalry you can detach or anything so I will roll combat

Message from Union:
good to mess around with the VASSAL module in an offline solitaire game...no worries on extra movements, that why everything gets documented in ACTS also in case misclicks in VASSAL and the like.

Lincoln is praying for a miracle from McDowell.

1 only will suffice to intercept. failing that, I will roll combat.
12 11/27/2017 1:59:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message gong to look at log now, but I'm going to change up nomenclature of files that you used to how i was doing it. i think it will make more sense that way. yours is a partial move so it will have an 'a' at the end.
11 11/27/2017 12:09:00 AM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #58: 2 / Admiral Porter
Union may make a naval move with up to three SPs plus one general. If an amphibious assault occurs, you receive an additional +2 DRM. Add +2DRM to any Running the Guns die roll.

Message from Confederate:
Activate Coprs/JJ, move to Strasburg, then Manassas, join with Beauregard and 3 troops, attack Fredrick. On you for interruptions/interceptions/etc, and/or the combat (+4 DRM (+3 Force ratio, +1 general) for conf vs +0 Union if intercept fails. If intercept succeeds, +1 Conf (general) vs +3 (+1 general, +2 intercept) Union))
10 11/27/2017 Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #107: 1 / Guerilla Raids Delay Supply
Play as interrupt to cancel the activation of any Union general with a strategy rating of 2 or 3.

Message from Confederate:
I'll cancel the activation of the AotP
9 11/24/2017 7:56:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message hope you had a good Thanksgiving. let me know when you were able to get on the dropbox shared folder and access the files.
8 11/22/2017 12:02:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message If you don't play an interruption card and fail the retreat roll, feel free to roll the combat as well.

Battle would be US DRM +4 (+3 force ratio and +1 McDowell offense) vs CSA DRM (+2 JJ defense)

also, let me know if the file naming nomenclature makes sense.

7 11/22/2017 11:59:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #78: 3 / Personal Advisor
Either player may remove or demote from army command one general for no SW penalty. Penalties for promoting a general with a lower political value still apply. OR remove ANY non-commanding general (even second in commands) from the game.

Message from Union:
Activating the A of P (5 SPs). Leave 2 behind in DC (n3 in A of P) and:
1st-Frederick and drop 1 SP (n2 in Frederick, n2 in A of P)
2nd & 3rd-move to Harper's Ferry, pick up those 2 SPs (n4 in A of P) - Attack JJ in Winchester.

Will wait for response of either a retreat roll or a card to potentially interrupt the move.
6 11/22/2017 9:43:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message Did you get my Dropbox invite? It was sent on Monday. Doing my move today and the set up log is already up
5 11/22/2017 2:47:00 AM Spring 1861 Confederate Draw Strategy cards 4 cards drawn.

4 11/20/2017 2:21:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message over to you to draw cards and determine initiative.
3 11/20/2017 2:21:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message just make sure you document stuff on ACTS as that is required for moderators but also helps speed game as often a player can make responses about retreats and interceptions without havng to load the log to see what happened.
2 11/20/2017 1:08:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message Hey Robb. Are you ok if I set up a dropbox and we use VASSAL as well? I can invite you through the email for your user.

i have drawn cards and will wait to see if you are claiming initiative.
1 11/20/2017 1:06:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Draw Strategy cards 4 cards drawn.
