We made the half way mark
A short Status update (without back-ups)
British 17 plots in
French 15 Plots in
|53||1/17/2018 7:11:00 AM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Secondly, whilst I do appreciate the effort some commodores are putting in, as stated in an earlier mail to Brian we should restrain on putting in back-up plots for all until the last moment. Obviously when previously agreed for travel or other reasons this should not be an issue but then best mention it.
Here is the excerpt of the mail:
• And NO please do not send plots for all other ships, lets be clever and also help me a little. If some of the squadron keep an eye out for missing plots (hence the need for a title for all) by the deadline, they can always then add a plot for the ones that are missing.
- This avoids other players to cheat, meaning decrypt your plot and poste it as their own (I know I am devious)
- Help the team act as a real team
- Limits the amount of posts I need to work through when processing them
Hence I will only take into account back-up plots posted within 24 hours of the deadline, unless specifically mentioned and agreed
It feels like herding cats :-)

The first of two other messages.
Please notify your teams (both and all) that pass words for encryption are case sensitive.

We agreed to have in future all signals of Admirals posted here. They are the ones that will signal the most so that makes life easy for me.
But please remember, although other might if they look find other messages here, do not use this one to communicated wind direction changes as most, 95+%, players will never come here. Repost the wind direction changes into your journals, van, rear, center respectively
|50||1/17/2018 2:09:00 AM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Another one request from me, and please do not repost everything now, but for future reference could we stick to templates as I do copy/paste a lot and do not like to type or re-type a lot.
Also, as per the rulebook, could we only use capitals in the signals ?
|49||1/17/2018 2:01:00 AM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Just to repeat, please add titles to your encrypted messages, also here for signals. I will refuse to do anything with those without, thanks

Please get your moves in by the deadline so Andre can start processing the move.
Please contact your Admirals if you have any question on the procedure.
Also, Andre has rolled to determine if the wind will change, and the wind WILL NOT change at the beginning of turn two.

Some Status and feedback
British : 10 plots in
French : 6 Plots in
Please ask your guys to add the word movement in the title, it helps
a number always means forward, one does not have to add the word forward, I do not believe they had a reverse gear :-)
tell the guys they cannot start repairs until something gets damaged. The crew is considered to be knitting and will not man the guns
On signals an addressee would be appreciated, see rules
|42||1/16/2018 2:03:00 AM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Quick question, have you shared with your squadrons that wind direction will not change next game-turn ?
|41||1/16/2018 2:02:00 AM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Excellent idea, have the captains post their very short signals onto their normal journals, whilst ALL admirals post their more lengthy ones only here.
It is my plan anyway to decrypt and share them in a short word document each turn.
Everybody agrees on Bill's suggestion ?
|40||1/15/2018 12:49:00 PM||Turn 1||French Van, Louis Charles de Besné||Message||
would it b e easier to post the encrypted messages in the admiral's cabin?
|39||1/15/2018 5:21:00 AM||Turn 1||British Rear, Hugh Palliser||Message||
my squadron are posting messages separately at the moment this allows me to check the first couple of turns of plots and help out captains who are struggling without reading any messages. For the first couple of turns while we are not engaged I would suggest others do the same to ease Andre's work load.

Where do we send (encrypted) signals for our Squadrons?
|37||1/15/2018 1:38:00 AM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Another request. The 1st game-turn is the most difficult and people have a tendency to leave everything to the last minute. Lets be on the look out to avoid dropouts.
I do realise life has a tendency to play tricks on us and things change.
On a personal note, I do understand this, believe me, but what I am struggling with is that people simply do not come clean. Sorry needed to get this off my chest. Hope you can forgive me.
|36||1/15/2018 1:30:00 AM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Thanks for doing this. So lets have fun and start the game
Strategic/tactical discussions stop.
The first goal is to get everybody on board and have all plots in by Friday :-)
|35||1/15/2018 1:27:00 AM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Posting signals should be done at the same time the plots are posted. If guys want to cheat they can also do this decrypting plots.
Players that cheat, not only cheat on others but especially also on themselves

When should I send in the admiral's message?
If I submit my encrypted message with my move, the other French players could inadvertently decrypt it early and adjust their move.
Is that a problem,? Or should I send the admiral's message after the moves are processed. Of course, then I could see the moves and adjust my message...
How about admirals messages are due 24 hours after the move deadline?

|30||1/10/2018 2:07:00 AM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Just to avoid misunderstandings
In order for you guys to function as a team/squadron and be able to back up if and when required all plots need to be made onto the different journals, British Van, French Centre, British Rear, etc. ...
Only the Admirals and me have writing access to the Admirals cabin, hence this is where I can communicate with you, but not with the others. This journal is NOT to be used to place plots and will never be checked by me to pick up any plot.

The first plot deadline, and as promised we will go slowly will be Friday January 19th Midnight GMT
As off January 15th radio silence will need to be in effect, meaning tactical discussions and exchange of emails between players should cease.
I expect you to plot according to details provided, encrypted and all using the following procedure
The movement plot :
GAME-TURN : xx
SHIP : xxxxxxx
PLOT : xxxx
SS : xx
S1 : x S2 : x S3 : x S4 : x M : x
FIRE : tbd
And encrypt using:
1. Go to the ENCRYPTION website:
2. 2. Enter this in the "Key:" box:
“PASSWORD” of your fleet
3. Copy and paste this text in the large box:
4. MAKE SURE the Algorithm is set to "Blowfish"
5. Hit the "Encrypt this" button.
Copy paste the encrypted text in ACTS. Use the title line on what you are doing : Example : Movement Plot Constitution
The Same for your Signal
The passwords to be used have or should have been given by your fleet admirals
Now let’s go and have fun

For good measure, I see some of you have reached out to your squadrons. I do recommend you do so to find out what the level of competency is out there.
I would expect it to be 50/50 with some to need very little guidance and some that need guidance and sometimes some encouragement.
One thing I need your help on is discipline. As one can imagine, this thing does not fly (or sail) if players are lagging behind in entering plots on time.
I still have two reserves (not sure they are still around and available) so if need be ...
In short players have a responsibility when they signed up.

Process for using the decryption system:
1. Go to the DECRYPTION website:
2. Enter this in the "Key:" box:
3. Copy and paste this text in the large box:
4. MAKE SURE the Algorithm is set to "Blowfish"
5. Hit the "Decrypt this" button.
This is how the messaging system will work. As you see, one can include encrypted and plain text in these act.warhorseim.com messages.
As I understand it, ALL messages from both teams will be sent like this.
Each Admiral will provide his own encryption key to his own team so that only his fleet can read his messages during the game. After the game is over, all encryption keys will be shared so everyone can read the opposing sides message chain.
Please let us know if any of this is incorrect.

And now a last word. please feel free to reach out to your squadrons on how to play the game and what tactics to use. You have an open floor and should best do this via mail. Everybody can read anything you write here, friend and foe.
have fun and enjoy the holidays

Finally, I would like to invite you to make good use of this platform as it will help players keep their mailboxes free.
How ? you can change the settings as not to receive mails from this :-)
So use it for anything you need to communicate to your teams wrt rules, scenarios etc ..
Once the game starts we will use Signalling and this platform will normally only be used for posting plots (movement and gunfire) which I will pick up and process.
I will revert on this later, meaning how do we keep fog of war. It is simple but bear with me.
|16||12/20/2017 12:44:00 PM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
The rule set will be shared over the holidays (need to find time to work on them, most of it has been done)
The major stuff has already been shared via mail though.
- Red Flag rules
- Slip movement
- 7.C.14 Voluntary reducing MGN
- 12. Towing
-13. Anchoring, including Veering obviously
-14.B Voluntary Surrendering
-14.E Historical Limits on Gunfire
-14.F Uncertain Wearing
- 8.C Grappling and Ungrappling
- 10. Boarding
- 14.A Impulse Movement (works fine as I will explain)
- 6.E Collisions: limited damages in collisions
- 6.D Bearing Off: delay DRMs when bearing off in later impulses.
- Bearing off is mandatory, unless impossible

Wind Direction will change and I=Game Master will roll for it on this module.
The column on the to be used = OCEANIC
The starting speed (meaning the "previous" plot speed) for ALL ships regardless their facing = 3
The Wind direction at start = 1
The British face in direction 3, meaning facing C
The French face in direction 6, meaning facing B
The fleets are approximately 24 hexes from each other
This should give time to regroup and plan.
Scattering has already been applied.
|14||12/20/2017 12:31:00 PM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Wind Speed = 4, as stated in my mails a couple of days ago. This one will NOT change during the game.
All Ship Logs reflect this speed already.
As you know, only gunfire (-1 DRM) and "Mast May Fall" result on the Rigging critical hit table are affected by this.
And you do get additional speed in return :-)
|13||12/20/2017 12:29:00 PM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Scenario data :
Sea State = 3. Some (very, very few) might therefore be subject to Lower Deck Gun Modifiers. Could I ask you to reach out to your Captains and have them check. It is a good exercise for them to start to read the ship-log and see what everything means.
Remember we do have some newbies in the group.
My suggestion is to use ACTS platform for this, not e-mails
|12||12/20/2017 12:27:00 PM||Turn 1||Game Master||Message||
Gentlemen, welcome on board. All players have registered, only Brian still needs to link up but this has been confirmed to be a matter of hours only.
You and your teammembers should have received the game box and each player should have received the Ship Log of their ship only. THEIR SHIP ONLY !
Some players command two ships so have received two logs.
I will now share some further updates
