131 4/19/2018 9:45:00 AM Spring 1862 Union Message Did you read rule 5.51? The Cavalry leader counters can no longer be on the map once they are played. They are to be replaced by brigades - "... the cavalry general and 1SP in the space are removed from the map.....". You still have Cav leaders counters on the map.

Rule 5.22, paragraph under example deals with second in commands. The CSA AofTn has no second in command while the AofWest has Price(4) and Polk(5), making Price the second in command at the start of the CSA turn. According to this rule, seconds in command cannot be changed without the play of a separate card. The exceptions would be new generals or general casualty. New generals have already been introduced during the new general placement segment under the reinforcement phase and there have been no general casualties in either army. Changing the second in commands (adding Polk(5) to AofTn and Bragg(8) to AofWest) can only be done as a separate card play.
130 4/18/2018 7:08:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message I will resend file #54 which shows where I took the sp's for the three cav leaders, Forrest Wheeler and Morgan.

I will recap the strength of the two armies.

AOT recap on previous page. Started at 3sp and lost one sp to attrition. It received 6sp which made the army 8sp. I removed 1sp for Stewart so that army is 7sp. It gave the Army of the west 2sp as it passed through Bloomington which left it with 5sp plus Forrest cav bde after leader and sp transfers. Additionally 1sp was removed for Wheeler which left it with 4 sp after removing for the Wheeler cav Bde.

Aow recap: It started with 2sp in Fayetteville arkansas and removed one sp for Forrest which made it one sp. File #54 shows this. It moved through Arkansas and picked up 3sp and price. It moved with 4sp and forrest to Memphis and picked up Polk and 1sp. Now 5sp, Lee, Forrest, polk and Price. This force moved to Dover and ended its turn but dover has 1sp with the fort which it left there when it moved to Bowling Green and picked up Bragg. Bragg became the AoW XO. Army was then 6sp with Forrest. It picked up two more sp at louisville. It moved to Bloomington and picked up 2 sp from Aot. Army of West is now 10sp plus wheeler and Stewart and Army of Tenn is now 4sp plus Forrest.

Finally, file #54 also showed Hannover VA started with 5 sp art end of the turn. It lost one sp to attrition and gained one in reinforcements. The file shows where 1sp was removed for placement of the Morgan cav Bde.

I moved the Army of West to Greencastle and thereby using its 6th Move pooint.

Hope this two messages helped.

Your card play or do you try interception at Grenencastle.
129 4/18/2018 6:06:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message I will answer your concerns in order of your questions. Your questions will be answered over emails

Question. 1) Once a Cav Leader is played it must be converted to the brigade unit. This cost 1 SP. You did not do this when you converted Stuart. AofWest should be 7, not 8 because of this conversion cost. Also the Cav Leaders Wheeler and Forrest need to be converted. They cannot remain a Cav leader. See rule 5.51. This will reduce the AofTenn from 5 to 3.

Answer. I have spent three days going over old game files and File number 54 shows where I took the sp's off for Forrest, Wheeler and morgan. Please start looking at the files I send you. I'm cannot afford days to look over files to answer your questions and claims when the vassal file showed where I subtracted the sp's. I cannot find the file that shows Stewart and do not want to spend any other time so will conceed the sp.

The army of Tenn ended the turn with 3sp and lost one to attrition. I added 6 sp to the army for a total of 8sp. I will remove 1sp for Stewart so back to 7. When the army of West moved through you did not catch the note where the Army of the West took 2sp from the Army Tenn. That is where the Army of West showed 10 sp but will now be 9 sp after sp removed for Stewart.

Question 2) You cannot randomly change leaders between armies. See Rule 5.22, paragraph under the example. This would affect Bragg, Polk, and Price since 2 of the 3 are second in command. It would not affect Wheeler and Forrest as they are not second in command. See #1 above about Cav leaders.

ANSWER> Yes I can do this except the rules says I can freely move leaders and Sp's out of an army or Corps except the highest non commanding general in the army is the XO or executive officer and cannot BE MOVED. The army of Tenn had no XO just Stewart as a cav brigade. The Army of the West started with Lee as commander, he cannot be removed except to be relived or by special card play. AoW started with Forrest, cav ldr, Price, political level (4). At that point Price was the XO but the army was not yet formed. I moved the Lee stack to Memphis and picked up Gen Polk, political level (5) and then moved to Dover and formed the army. When the army was formed Polk became the XO. He could only be moved away from the army if a higher non commanding general with a higher political level. When the army of the West moved to Bowling Green and picked up Bragg, Political level 8, Bragg replaced Polk as the XO. When the army of the west moved to Bloomington I transferred SP's and ldrs.

I choose to move Polk over to the Army of the Tenn as its XO. He is a political level 5 ldr. I could freely move the cav leaders. I had no restriction in which army Price could be placed but left him with the Army of the West.

ARMY OF THE WEST> Lee (C). BraGG (xo), Stewart and Wheeler.
Army of Tenn > Smith (C), Polk (XO) and Forrest.

more to follow

128 4/15/2018 3:59:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Some issues with your move
1) Once a Cav Leader is played it must be converted to the brigade unit. This cost 1 SP. You did not do this when you converted Stuart. AofWest should be 7, not 8 because of this conversion cost. Also the Cav Leaders Wheeler and Forrest need to be converted. They cannot remain a Cav leader. See rule 5.51. This will reduce the AofTenn from 5 to 3.

2) You cannot randomly change leaders between armies. See Rule 5.22, paragraph under the example. This would affect Bragg, Polk, and Price since 2 of the 3 are second in command. It would not affect Wheeler and Forrest as they are not second in command. See #1 above about Cav leaders.

3) AofWest starts with 6 SP's, leaves 1 SP in Dover so now is 5 SP's; moves to Bragg (1SP) picks up this 1 SP for total of 6 P's; moves to Louisville and picks up 2 SP's for total of 8 SPs, not 10. Reduce 8 to 7 for conversion of Stuart Cav brigade. See #1 above.

4) You indicated the AofWest was moving to Vernon. However the file ends with the AofWest in Greencastle. Which is it Vernon or Greencastle?

Please address the above

Confederate randomly removes one strategy card from the Union player’s hand, which is discarded.

Message from Confederate:
Sorry, crossed wires between games.
First, Convert Bloomington to CSA control.
Second, detach Stewart to remain in Bloomington and then move Army of Tennessee to Lewisville and pick up two strength points, now 3 SP.

AoT then moves back to Bloomington for its 3rd Movement point. That makes the army of Tennessee for 4sp. The army of Tennessee uses its Fourth Movement point to attack Halleck in Vincennes. Do you give battle or attempt retreat?

89 3/15/2018 10:15:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message no I do not agree. I lost 2sp in the battle. I started with 4 sp. I retreat to Bloomington and lose 1 sp so Aot down to 1sp. There was 1 sp in Bloomington which was absorbed when I moved into the hex. The AoT now has 2 sp.

This the second time I have explained this. Look at the map
88 3/15/2018 7:04:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message Bloomington is still USA controlled despite the presence of a 1 CSA SP and therefore would have a USA PC marker in it. Per rule 7.6, last paragraph, the AofTN retreated into an enemy PC marker and therefore suffers another 1SP loss. The AofTN would then have 1SP left. Agree?
87 3/14/2018 6:40:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I started with 3sp plus 1sp with Stewart. I lose 3 sp and retreat with 1sp to Bloomington and pickup 1 sp there. AoT has 2sp in Bloomington. Do you continue to advance?
86 3/14/2018 8:12:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message Not that when your retreat, you will need to lose another SP since the spaces available for retreat are USA controlled.
