820 1/2/2019 3:57:00 PM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message Continued.

Also, waiting too late with the High Seas Fleet. I've always felt you can hold it until the very end, but ofc then the AP knows you have it, so the trick is to play it when they don't expect it. But it's a 4 so you want to keep it for as long as possible. But it's a VP so you definitely want to play it at some point. Very tricky!

Regarding card management I felt like mine was better than yours, but not by that much. I struggled to get rid of Wireless, U-boats and Hoffman and things like that, although I was unlucky to have to wait so long for H-L to come around a second time. But it's worse for the AP because they have so many 2's in the late game.

More generally, I feel like it's key for the CP to lock down fronts, and key for the AP to open up new ones. Once the West had stabilised I hardly used any ops there at all, because I didn't need to. The Alps were also extremely static. You did open up the Macedonian front when I wanted to focus on RU which was well played, that bothered me. Especially since there aren't any VP's for me to take down there, but I still have to use ops to defend it, send Germans down etc.

It was great fun to play against you, so thanks for playing and gl with future games :) And happy new year!

819 1/2/2019 3:51:00 PM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message Hi!

Sorry for the long delay, it's been Christmas etc and I wanted to be able to take a proper look at the game before replying :) So here are my thoughts:

The first thing I notice when I look back (except that I had a rough start, both in the West and in the Balkans) is that you didn't play Moltke. I think it's important to hold Moltke until the last round of September. That way you 1) force the CP to hold on to Falkenhayn. B) Force the CP to play other cards than Falkenhayn for war status if they want to reach Limited at the end of september, C) Effectively get the first AR of the Fall turn because CP 'has' to play Falkenhayn as their first AR and D) get rid of a useless 3 ops card. When you played it as early as AR2 I knew I could use Falkenhayn for RP and still reach limited with Oberost and Truce. Granted, it might have been nice to hold on to Truce for later, but given the circumstances that worked out nicely for me.

Another thing is that you never played AUS and CDN for the event. I know they're not great, but it's a 2 ops card that kept coming back to you for the rest of the game and you never played them. You want to get rid of that card. But also, if you have them, and you SR AUS to the Near East they can make a real difference. You can stack them with the MEF or use them to attack from out of Egypt etc. The CDN is less flexible, but if you have a stack of two BR armies in the West and you put CDN on top of them that's a pretty good stack that can do some damage and absorb 7 hits without eliminating a unit. They're also quite useful in the Balkans.

As for the BR army that went down to Italy, I kind of see why you needed to do that, and it probably saved IT from crumbling, but it also felt really good for me to have one less BR army to worry about for the rest of the game. It's a tough choice, but I might have SR'd it back to the West once IT was up and running again. Ofc the CP might then have resumed the attack, but I'm not sure. At least then you would have had a full strength Italy.

I probably would have played the Sinai pipeline for the event. I love Allenby and the NE army and if you can get them into play at the same time as you have CAU and MEF as well, then it's very hard for TU to defend. And doing it costs the CP lots and lots of ops.

Attacking during the FR mutiny. I can't tell by looking at the log if it was crucial or not to kick me out of C-T, it might have been. But still, 1 VP that you will never get back...

When it came to the AoO I realise that you weren't aware that it was irreplacable, but I think that once it was dead, there was no real point in continuing the operations in the Balkans, since they cost you so much in terms of ops, with the IT/SE stacks. It did mean I had to keep GE11 down there, which prevented it from being used elsewhere, but that would have been the case even if you hadn't moved around much down there.

Losing one of the SE armies early was bad for you. You defended Belgrade well, but it tends to fall sooner or later. When it does it's great if both Serbs are still alive and can come back later via Salonika and keep a few Austrians busy.

I'm not sure, but I think it might have been in your interest to play more for war status in the late game, to get a chance of getting the US armies on the board. It's tempting to wait for the CP to raise WS in order to fell the Tsar etc, but if it doesn't happen you might have to do it. And the CP can finish the Russian track quite quickly from once Bolshevik Rev is allowed. To get the Americans on the board takes more time and is less predictible.

I made some mistakes too, mainly regarding the Russian Capitulation Track. I got it started way too late, and it was only thanks to the Turks that it got under way at all. That was lazy. It worked out in the end, but it should have happened sooner. The fact that you got to use Romania over and over as RP definitely hurt.

Also, waiting too late with the High Seas Fl
818 12/22/2018 6:18:00 PM Fall 1918 Allies Message I capitulate, but it was a fun game and I never actually played it to turn 18 :) So I learned a lot and I have some pointers to incorporate in my future games.

I think you played the western front very efficiently without to much wasted OPs. On the Turkish front I clearly messed up and in Russia your German offence came just in time (but I will play the Russians more aggressively in my future games).

Do you have any specific things that you want me to take away from this game?
817 12/21/2018 6:34:00 PM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message So, what do you say?
816 12/19/2018 12:20:00 PM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message That's ok, yeah it's been slowing down a lot. Last turn I wasn't 100% sure I'd win, but then when you played the US reinforcements and I managed to defend Brussels and got two full armies in Essen... I still don't think it's a guaranteed win for me, but it certainly looks tricky for the Allies.

It WOULD be fun to try and take Egypt with the Turks ;) But I can understand if you feel like it's meaningless to play on, and ending the war now would obviously save hundreds of thousands of lives too ;)

So if you want to surrender, the Central Powers would welcome it :)
815 12/19/2018 7:14:00 AM Fall 1918 Allies Message Sorry for the delay, I have been very busy lately and I am contemplating whether continuation of the game makes sense. Or if capitulation is the better choice ;)
