591 4/26/2018 6:17:00 PM Spring 1864 Union Message Union reinforcements are placed as follows:

EAST (8): Washington, DC
CENTRAL (6): Jackson, OH
WEST (4): Cairo, IL

590 4/26/2018 5:40:00 PM Spring 1864 Union Message I wasn't aware that armies had to be in supply in order to place PC markers as per the rule below and it is quite possible that I abused this rule during this practice game. I only became aware of it when I noticed the small little blurb on the Turn Track that said "PC: Armies" and I searched the rules to find out what that meant.

In any event, that restriction is now lifted. : )

=========================
5.26 MOVEMENT AND POLITICAL CONTROL:
An Army that contains one or more infantry SPs has a unique capability to convert an enemy PC marker or place a PC marker in a neutral or enemy-controlled space by expending an additional space of movement in the space.
[...]
In 1861, 1862 and 1863, the Army must be in supply to utilize this capability. This restriction is lifted from 1864 until the end of the game for both sides.

570 4/25/2018 4:00:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message 2* (8=2+6) Union
3 (10=5+5) Confederates

Union loses the battle. The Union loses 3 SPs while the Confederates lose 2 SPs. Since the CSA only has 1 SP, Forrest is moved to the Turn Track (3 turns later). The Union doesn't take the space even though the CSA was eliminated because it is a resource space.

The CSA rolled a modified 10, so they have to roll a die to see if Forrest is killed during the battle.

Modify the die roll by –2 if a Cavalry Brigade is making the interception or if a Cavalry Brigade is present in the Army or Corps.
567 4/25/2018 2:30:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Whatever happens, you may roll for the battle.
566 4/25/2018 2:29:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Forrest failed the interception attempt because he’s not part of an army
565 4/25/2018 1:50:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message AotM has 8 SPs. As such it would be a medium battle with whomever you intercepted. Forrest would need a "5" to successfully intercept (3 defensive rating, +2 for being cavalry) while Pemberton would need a "1".

If Forrest successfully intercepted, the Union would have a +6drm (+2 leaders, +4 force ratio) vs. CSA's +5drm (+3 leader, +2 Interception).

If Pemberton successfully intercepted, the Union would have a +5drm (+2 leaders, +3 force ratio) vs. CSA's +3drm (+1 leader, +2 Interception).

Please note Rule 5.82 (and Rule 5.8 in general) seems to emphasize that a player gets only one interception attempt per enemy move, meaning that I don't think you can Intercept from two separate spaces. Let me know if you disagree with that interpretation and we can look further into it.

561 4/25/2018 1:27:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message The AotP leaves 1 SP in Fredericksburg and moves back to Wilderness to end their move there.
560 4/25/2018 1:21:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message No interception attempts
559 4/25/2018 11:52:00 AM Fall 1863 Union Message Actually, I take that back. The Union has 9SP heading into Fredericksburg, so it would be +4drm for the Union (due to the +2 force ratio).
558 4/25/2018 11:50:00 AM Fall 1863 Union Message The AotP places a PC marker in Wilderness. They leave 1 SP in Wilderness and move to Fredericksburg. Does the AoNV attempt to intercept? (It would be a medium battle 8SP vs. 3SP with +2drm Union vs +7drm Confederates.)
557 4/25/2018 10:53:00 AM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Hanover
556 4/25/2018 9:38:00 AM Fall 1863 Union Message 4* (7=5+2) Union
4 (8=2+6) Confederates

The fates smile very kindly on the Union as the win the battle 4* to 4.

The CSA's elite Stonewall Brigade is eliminated because the CSA took two or more SP losses (as per Rule 7.51).

The Union gains 3 SW (up to 100) and the CSA loses 5 SW (down to 40).

And because the AotP started with a 2-1 force ratio, then can continue their move.

Does the AoNV retreat to Fredericksburg or Hanover?

Conduct up to three moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Union:

AotP leaves 1 SP and moves to DC. They pick up 7 SPs and General Hancock and move back to Manassas. From Manassas, the AotP with 14 SP (leaving 1 SP in Manassas) attack the AoNV in Wilderness. Do you hold your ground or do you attempt to retreat? It would be a large battle with a +2 drm for the Union and a +5drm for the Confederates (or +6 if you invoke your elite unit).

Union may activate any Union army within 4 spaces of Richmond, VA. The army must enter Richmond or move as close to Richmond as possible, but may convert spaces to maintain an LOC. All SPs associated with the army must be moved (no dropping off SPs), except 1 SP may be left if the Army began its movement from a fort (if last SP, move completed). If played by the Confederate, he draws a card from the Union hand which is discarded, and the Union player follows the instructions of this card as his next card play.

505 4/20/2018 11:40:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Event #29: 2 / Crittenden Compromise
Union places (or flips in border states) two PC markers in any spaces free of Confederate SPs or forts which are not Resource spaces, Blockade Runner Ports, or Coastal forts. Void after Emancipation Proclamation. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
We place PC markers in Tuscumbia AL and Gordonsville VA. (I might point out that Tuscumbia AL will impede your East-West strategic transfers.)

By the way, we are climbing Cannon Mountain tomorrow, so I won't respond until late tomorrow night or sometime on Sunday.

496 4/20/2018 10:02:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message Doh! You are right!!!

Fortunately, I rolled a "6" so it was moot being that you needed a 5 or below.

Although I am not sure if I would have intercepted anyway if I were in your shoes, as you would have been running the risk of losing Forrest for 3 turns (if his brigade was eliminated during the battle) and Vicksburg might have become very vulnerable too if the dice didn't roll your way.
495 4/20/2018 9:40:00 AM Summer 1863 Confederate Message Just for future reference I believe that The Interception rating is based on a generals defensive rating
494 4/20/2018 9:34:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message Because we take Mobile AL, its ungarrisoned associated fort, Fort Morgan, also becomes Union controlled and also thusly the Union gains 1 SW (up to 97) and the CSA loses 1 SW (down to 51).

==================

6.84 CONTROL OF UNGARRISONED COASTAL FORTS: An ungarrisoned, Confederate-controlled coastal fort changes sides (place the appropriate PC marker) if its associated port changes sides to Union control

Map has been updated.
493 4/20/2018 9:19:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message 2* (7=1+6) Union
1 (6=4+2) Confederates

We both lose a unit. The Union won and therefore can keep moving. We place a PC marker in Mobile and end our turn there.
