589 5/9/2018 12:24:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Agreed, hands down the most exciting CDG I have ever played! Well played and every move in 64 I thought it was both 'over' and 'the south could win'.
I learned much in that as I gave up the resource destruction plan thinking there was not near enough time to get every blockade port as well. Until the SC/NC cut to Morehead then it became feasible.

That is until I decided you would just lock something down.. the Chambersburg lock was unreal and I had not experienced that before. You prevented canceling the state control and gained SW from the large battles.

You repeated around AL/MS as i could not gain state control or dare to waste precious actions with Pope. You might have created a small army with Jackson+Forrest and crushed everything down there but you did not need to - amazing choice.

As you made these 'locks' so difficult I instead choose to sneak attack a fort (failed!), chase down AONV (failed!) then finally state control which I was still not sure of.

Great game and an amazing event, thank you and congrats ..you said your new to this game, ppllleeeaaassseee!

Hit me up when ready for another Civil War game FTP/GCACW.
I read the GCACW rules, hexs 1 mile awesome! This old Charleston boy needs more. Happy Wilderness and Spotsylvania month and we are just getting started! ;D
588 5/9/2018 5:21:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Not sure what the official order is but I agree, the US prevails either way. Congrats on a very well played game!

As I said a few posts back, that was the most exciting game of FtP that I've played.

I thought you really put me tough position when you invaded the deep south with Pope's Army. I was never able to really adequately cover that much ground. The fact that Jackson and AJ were separated made things difficult as well. CSA was able to hold on for a while as long as the US continued to pound away at Harrisburg, but once you had the last move and set the AoT up in WV, the CSA was in big trouble! I never was able to even oppose Grant's Army in its devastating drive south. I thought that you timed it perfectly as well, since at the end of that turn, I think the CSA actually had more SPs on the board. Lastly, I did not realize that a CSA BR Port must have a LOC to a resource space to be open. At the end of one of the turns, I had the option to move Jackson's Army to Augusta and I chose to let it fall. However, that effectively closed every port on the east coast and even put the AoNV and AoW in the north OOS. Excellent move on your part to set that up! Even if I'd saved Augusta, then Alabama would have been open for the taking.

Thank you very much for a great game and congrats on closing out the tourney 2-0!

***R17.21 The Union player wins instantly if the Confederate SW value reaches zero.

State Control Order:
I am certain I pulled the specific order from a CSW search years ago but after rereading 3.42 (specifically Step 2) it does not explicitly state in what order. So this would need to be confirmed for a ruling but if we conduct both ways (CSA/USA vs USA/CSA) CSA ends up at 0 SW.

Let me know if you agree?

If you look under the Vassal modules for this title, you will find vassal modules for both "Roads to Gettysburg" and "Here Come the Rebels" (Antietam Campaign). HIS is a 6P asymmetrical CDG on the Age of Reformation. Very good but a devoted play in length.

Checked out the MMP GCACW line and looks great. The map on Vassal for Above the Clouds is the best I have ever seen. If interested in starting a game, even a learner, shoot me an email.

515 5/5/2018 6:16:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message I have not tried out Civil War. I saw it a while back but more people seemed to like this Game, so that was where I invested my time. For sure, the CGDs and ACTS make things very easy for PBEM.

Here I stand is the multi player game I believe right? I did not know that Ed Beach was the designer, that is pretty cool. So I imagine it must be a cross between FtP and Diplomacy? That certainly sounds like it would be a lot of fun to play.

Like yourself, I also like the civil war a lot. I dragged that family to Gettysburg last summer and that really reignited my passion for this period of history. Hence, the reason I learned this game and signed up for the tournament. I want to try an operational level Civil War game next which is where my interest in GCACW developed. Just so happened that MMP was re-releasing the Gettysburg/Antietam game, so that was where I started. I'm not sure how these games will translate to PBEM, but will find out soon.

Staunton

I will place them instead to:

512 5/5/2018 5:37:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Like you, I went both ways on the Blockade Runner Port. After reading 10.52, I thought Savannah must be closed. However, after reading the FAQ question, I though that port should be open.

Personally, I think the port should be considered open. The Logistic rules clearly state that that a BR port can act as an ultimate base of supply if it has an LOC to another BR port. So, if a port (with only and LOC to anther BR port) can keep multiple armies in supply and the recruits are coming from the state in any case, it seems the BR port should be able to outfit a single new unit. Are you good if we finish that way?
511 5/4/2018 8:00:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Until now...:O

I enjoy Mark Simonitch games. Have you tried or looked at US Civil War?

510 5/4/2018 11:39:00 AM Summer 1864 Union Message Wish I could edit ACTS postings to reduce spam :{

Please refer to 10.52 and confirm.
I believe none of these ports can trace a LOC to a resource space except Sabine City.

Have a good day and less spam from here on out.

509 5/4/2018 11:36:00 AM Summer 1864 Union Message BR Ports Open - correction: GA & FL state BRs can trace to each other even though they cant trace to another resource space.

FAQ Note:
Q: If Union naval control extends along the entire Mississippi river except for a CSA controlled Ft. St. Philip-Jackson, can New Orleans receive a blockade runner reinforcement if New Orleans can trace a LOC to an undestroyed CSA controlled resource space or another open blockade runner port? (5/2013)

A: Yes, a CSA blockade runner port is open if its associated coastal fort is CSA controlled and if the port can trace a LOC to an undestroyed resource space or another open blockade runner port.

506 5/4/2018 11:14:00 AM Summer 1864 Union Message Digging deeper into the rules reveal the following.

10.52 requires a BR port to trace a LOC to another resource space to be open. I see only Sabine City as being open. If agreed, place your RF there.

With supply cut on the eastern board, is any placed SP during RF considered OOS and without LOC. If so can it still use SM? EX. 1SP in Chester, SC

Ed Beach designed Here I Stand - an amazing game. Please keep me posted with anything you hear as I will look into MMP games on this new series.

503 5/4/2018 4:58:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Despite the very eloquent speech by Mr. Lincoln, the new south is not quite ready to call it quits yet. We will continue to fight for the Freedoms and Rights that our forefathers fought and died for 80 years ago.
502 5/4/2018 4:55:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message As far as the PBEM tourney is concerned, it was discussed at the end of March. Ed Beach, who is the main game designer, agreed to get it set up once the new games were shipped (see post by "Ed Beach - Mar 23, 2018 10:16 am (#11177 Total: 11419)" in Consimworld under the "Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series (MMP/TAHGC)")

The new games have been shipping since the beginning of April, so I am expecting more discussion in the next few weeks. I would be more than happy to let you know when some more concrete information is released as far as start dates and game scenarios are concerned.
501 5/4/2018 4:53:00 AM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Good Catch by you with the Shenandoah. I'll add 1 sp back to the AoW.

Not both! Check out R8.4 - you can supply one Army or corp when you have all three spaces of the Shenandoah.

498 5/3/2018 9:24:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Oh and Abe has a message to the rebel states:

Now, therefore I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, by virtue of the power in me vested as Commander-in-Chief, of the Army and Navy of the United States in time of actual armed rebellion against the authority and government of the United States, and as a fit and necessary war measure for suppressing said rebellion, do, on this third day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty four, and in accordance with my purpose so to do publicly proclaimed for the full period of one hundred days, from the day first above mentioned, order and designate as the States and parts of States wherein the people thereof respectively, are this day in rebellion against the United States, the following, to wit: Stop this agression as our means and will will prevail!

497 5/3/2018 9:23:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message 'CSA armies must forage'
Good catch

I had a couple of the old AH series the MMP is redoing in the GCACW series but have not played these versions yet. I am interested in the tourney. Can you send a link on the tourney as I am unable to find on BPA site?

Coming back to FTP has provided the CW fix I have been needing as I love history of this war. I am all in on Civil War...again. Please feed..

Another great CDG is Wilderness War. Keep tabs on this tourney too about every two years they run. One is wrapping up now.

496 5/3/2018 8:41:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Message As far as the EOT is concerned I think the two CSA armies must forage. They have an LOC to Norfolk but Norfolk does not have an LOC to another open Blockade Runner Port or Resource space and therefore cannot act as an ultimate supply source.

So:
AoW -1 (n4)
AoNV -1 (n3)

Jefferson Davis Proudly announces that the new Capital shall be in Jackson, MS. The new armies of the South will reform and get revenge on the Yellow Bellied - City Burning Yankees!
495 5/3/2018 8:40:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Message Before I make my moves, let me just say that this has been a very exciting game. That was a great move to put the AoT out in WV at the end of '63. The CSA was totally routed this past turn. I had to take a shot at DC, but was really unable to do anything that whole turn.

I have enjoyed playing against you as well. I think the CDG format works really well for PBEM. I currently only know this game as far as CDGs are concerned. I own Twilight Struggle and Empire of the Sun is on my list games to get. I've heard really good things about it. Over Christmas, I started playing Great Campaigns of the American Civil War. MMP just released a couple of new games for that series and I picked one up, so that is the next game that I'm learning now. They are planning to start a PBEM tournament soon, so I am planning to take part. Are you familiar with any of those?
494 5/3/2018 8:39:00 PM Summer 1864 Confederate Message The honorable Jefferson Davis would never stoop so low as to wear a dress to escape an enemy! That would be like running away from enemy armies to attack defenseless cities full of women and children instead of fighting like an honorable man!! One day, the despot Lincoln will be tried for his Crimes Against Humanity!!
493 5/3/2018 12:28:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message Hi Jeff,

This one is just too close to count out but have really enjoyed playing with you.

Following this game, would you be up for starting another FTP or any other wargame you and I enjoy playing? I am a huge GMT fan (HQ is almost in my backyard) and finally learned Empire of the Sun, which adds another feather to Mark Herman's hat with game greatness. Needless to say love the CDGs and PBEM.

~K

Did Davis wear a dress to 'sneak' out of town?

R11.3b
A player cannot use an OC to place PC markers if his Capital has been captured that turn. A player can still place PC markers with an EC or an Army even if his capital is displaced.
