214 3/26/2018 10:24:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message I had a good time in our play today as always. My morale is a bit higher as I think I have played my hand fairly well this turn, but I'm still convinced my failure to reinforce a couple of coastal forts to 2SP has doomed me. Maybe if you are worried about Lee it will distract you enough to prevent any more invasions.
213 3/26/2018 10:21:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Lee sends Morgan out under a white flag to offer a truce for all concerned to retrieve dead and wounded from the battlefield.

You can make a card play when you wish in the AM and I'll respond when I get home.

I haven't read the rule recently but I think it states the CSA can never cross a river into a space with a Union fort (I don't think it even requires an SP). The river crossing is judged by the space being entered. Thus Cincy is immune to invasion once a fort is built. Louisville is the CSA crossing space in Kentucky. Cairo and Kansas City can not be stopped as crossing points, nor the two spaces in WV. In the east, the fort in DC means the CSA can never attack DC from Manassas, has to go around through Frederick.
212 3/26/2018 10:15:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Yes, I'd like to adjourn for the day.
I have a lot of funerals to attend for my fallen.
211 3/26/2018 10:10:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Do you want to end play for the evening? I have doctor's appointment at 9AM to draw blood. Since I have to fast beforehand I'll probably stop for breakfast someplace on the way home and be back maybe by 11:30, probably noon or a bit later.
210 3/26/2018 10:08:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Lee drops an SP in Lexington (4) and moves back to Somerset to admire his handiwork and stops there with the 3 infantry SP and the Morgan cav brigade. This forms a powerful intercept position if your boys in Louisville try to move south or east.

End of activation, over to you.
209 3/26/2018 10:05:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message You are safe for several card plays from Lee crossing the river into Cincy and have time to build a fort there. The CSA would have to build an army around Lee (a card), then play a card to move the army and convert the spaces and stop in Falmouth then play a card to build a fort, then with my last card maybe cross the river. I think if you build a fort there it makes it impossible for Lee to cross even with a fort on this side. You have plenty of time!!

Message from Union:
Is Buell's surgeon a good one or a butcher?
207 3/26/2018 9:56:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Lee inflicts a 3 on the poor Union soldiers in their fort which eliminates the 2SP and the fort. Lee loses 1 SP (5) and wins the battle. Because the net total for Lee's force was a 10, Buell can be killed if you roll a 1. If you don't roll a 1 he goes to the TRT and comes back next turn.
206 3/26/2018 9:54:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Hey, I didn't roll a 1! What's up with that?

203 3/26/2018 9:47:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message We stand and fight, we fight and fall, where we stand!
In other words, no retreat.
I should have built a fort in Cincinnati.
202 3/26/2018 9:31:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Lee (6)->Lexington. You may attempt to retreat before combat. Will await your decision/dr

Lee has +5 drm for leadership with Morgan and +2 for 3:1 odds. Note that Lee nor Morgan can be killed in combat due to the 3:1 odds.
201 3/26/2018 9:29:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message No intercept.
200 3/26/2018 9:08:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #102: 3 / First Manassas
Confederate Player may move 2 SPs using Strategic Movement from the same space using rail connections only (5 space maximum) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. OR play this card as an automatic 2 space interception. Intervening space must be friendly controlled and free of enemy SPs. The intervening space may be the one just exited by the moving enemy force. No Generals or SPs may be picked up or dropped off during the intercept.

Message from Confederate:
EC. The 2 SP in Clarksville take the last train to Lebanon and join Lee (6) who is activated->Somerset

You may attempt to intercept there, will continue with activation after your decision/dr.
199 3/26/2018 8:42:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #24: 3 / Pre-War Treachery
Confederate may place up to two forts in any friendly controlled spaces with a LOC free of Union SPs and forts. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:

198 3/26/2018 8:41:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Return Strategy card to hand #82: 3 / Foreign Intervention - Reshuffle/Remove

Message from Union:
197 3/26/2018 7:56:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Another poorly written message though I believe you will understand my meaning. I can't think straight today.
196 3/26/2018 7:54:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message You can hit "Undo Card Play" and then play a different card. Even though it's about zero chance I'll get to 110 SW the last card effect is still in play (again, the EP aces this out for last card unless it has the Union victory in which case it must be the next card play by either player).
195 3/26/2018 7:52:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Rule 4.42 "Exception". I just read this and didn't realize that FI can be held even if the 110+ SW is in effect. The main thing is it has to be the last card played from either player's hand while waiting to see if the SW condition comes into play. My first message here was poorly written - bah, humbug.
194 3/26/2018 7:49:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message It is confusingly written but this card must be held until it is the last card in your hand unless CSA SW is 110+ at which point it must be played as the player holding it immediately (except for Emancipation Proclamation which is the only card that beats it). If it is the last card in your hand and the 110+ SW has not been met, then and only then you can play it as an OC (same thing applies to EP except you must win a medium or large battle for that to be played as the EC).
193 3/26/2018 7:35:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #82: 3 / Foreign Intervention - Reshuffle/Remove
Either player can play this card as an EC when Confederate SW is 110+. If this is the last card in a players hand or the second to last and the player holds the Emancipation Proclamation, if the condition is met, it must be played as an EC, if not it can be played as an OC. EFFECTS: 1. Union Blockade reduced by one (cannot become greater than 4 for the remainder of the game). 2. Union -2 SP Reinforcements for the remainder of the game (Union choice). 3. Union SW reduced by 10. Remove from deck if event is played. If card is played as an OC or discarded re-shuffle deck at end of the Strategy Phase.

192 3/26/2018 12:47:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #38: 2 / George W. Rains, Increased Gunpowder Production
Confederate immediately places two SPs in any friendly controlled space in Tennessee with an LOC (both SPs are placed in the same space). The SPs cannot be placed in a Pro Union space or one occupied by Union SPs or fort.

Message from Confederate:

Over to you.
191 3/26/2018 12:36:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Event #113: 2 / Washington Defenses
The Union player may place 3 forts in friendly controlled spaces, unoccupied by Confederate SPs, on or within two spaces of the Union Capital (any location) OR 2 forts in any friendly controlled spaces unoccupied by Confederate SPs. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
EC
Place forts in Louisville KY and Lexington KY.
Discarding card.
Over to you.
190 3/26/2018 12:24:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Curtis loses 2 SP (2), Lee loses 1 (4) and wins the battle, Curtis retreats to Lousiville. There was fog on the battlefield making the casualty totals less than expected and no generals were killed.

End of Lee's foray, over to you.

187 3/26/2018 12:14:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Event #8: 1 / 3 Cigars
Play this card to make an automatic one or two space interception. Intervening space must be friendly controlled and free of enemy SPs. The intervening space may be the one just exited by the moving enemy force. No Generals or SPs may be picked up or dropped off during intercept.

186 3/26/2018 11:24:00 AM Spring 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #28: 1 / Franz Sigel
Union immediately receives one SP in St. Louis, MO space if no Confederate SPs or fort are present, whether it is controlled by either side or neutral; OR Confederate plays card at the beginning of a battle and receives a +2 DRM in the battle.

Message from Confederate:
OC, activate Lee in Corinth (2, one of which is Morgan cav bde)-->McKenzie, p/u infantry SP there (3)-->Clarksille, p/u SP (4)-Nashville, p/u 1 SP there (5)-->Lebanon where you may attempt intercept. Will await your decision.
185 3/25/2018 9:16:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Event #95: 2 / Strategy Board

184 3/23/2018 10:12:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Since you used most of the 1-cards in this last turn, we should have plenty of fireworks in Spring of '42.
I had a fun time, as well, despite my stupidities.
Talk to you int he am.

183 3/23/2018 9:55:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message CSA decides to not go first by play of campaign card to start T4. See you tomorrow, had fun playing today even with a wretched hand.

180 3/23/2018 9:53:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message After you draw and then I draw, I will declare going first or not and then see you in the AM. If I declare going first we can wait til tomorrow to do the moves in the campaign.
179 3/23/2018 9:50:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message McDowell joins the AoP and Curtis arrives in Louisville.
178 3/23/2018 9:50:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Wheeler marries up with one of the SP's in McKenzie as a cav bde leaving one SP as infantry. Morgan doesn't matter as he currently represents a cav commander in a corps commanded by Lee.
177 3/23/2018 9:49:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Forrest to Steven where he marries up as 2SP cav brigade (his super power), Morgan joins Lee in Corinth and Wheeler to McKenzie.
176 3/23/2018 9:47:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message I will put one cav commander in Steven, one in Corinth and one in McKenzie. Lee goes in Corinth.
175 3/23/2018 9:45:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message I think those earliest cameras were too heavy and bulky to go up under a balloon…and didn't it take several minutes to take a picture?

I wonder if Matthew Brady or one of his assistants ever went up in one of those observation balloons and took a photo. The first aerial recon?
172 3/23/2018 9:36:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message CSA strat moves:

I'm not sure how I screwed this up.
170 3/23/2018 9:29:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Yes, let's soldier on and draw cards.
Tomorrow, I can play in the morning, but will need to go with daughter #2 about 11:30 to do more house-hunting.
Our current bid was not accepted…we're trying some more with them, but we're not hopeful.
169 3/23/2018 9:28:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message I didn't show 2SP in Jackson, OH. In reinforcements I think you placed them in Zanesville? After we get done maybe we can do an aerial recon photo - using those balloons!
168 3/23/2018 9:26:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message My strat moves coming shortly. We can go with the original plan and get to our cards, eh!?
167 3/23/2018 9:20:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message I've read the AA-against-ungarrisoned fort rules over and over -- ( know them. I know them, I know them!
But…when it comes to using them, I forget everything and act like a moron.

165 3/23/2018 9:08:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message I'm of the opinion you have a lot to think about wrt strat moves as do I - also leader placement. Would you like to adjourn for the day and think about things?
164 3/23/2018 8:57:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message While you are strat moving, take a look at section 18.0 way in the back of the rulebook. It outlines every possible combination of results for amphibious assaults against coastal forts. I guess the rule you found wasn't definitive enough (it was for me!)

I blame it on the cat, as usual.
153 3/23/2018 8:25:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message And I concur with your SW totals, can't believe I messed that up so badly!

150 3/23/2018 8:24:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Yes, that is correct, you can always do SW changes that happen in the same phase to your best advantage.
149 3/23/2018 8:23:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message You lose 1 SW for Ft. Pulaski -- 93-

I lose 5 SW for War weariness - 99-
I gain 1, plus FoW +2 for Ft Pulaski -- 102+
I think we have played that a player can do the SW changes in any order.
I understood your AAM message. Again, I knew all this…in the back of my brain, but somehow these things aren't coming up to the front when the rubber mets the road…or something like that.

148 3/23/2018 8:22:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Oh, and a further -5 SW for the Union for War Weariness...Union SW now 99(-)
147 3/23/2018 8:19:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message That message about the AAM totaling was clear as mud. I wrote it then edited it without reading the result and it got all messed up.

If you concur with PC and Attrition changes I'll advance the game turn.
146 3/23/2018 8:16:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message No attrition for CSA.

I think you lose 2 SP in DC due to having 7 SP's there.
145 3/23/2018 8:15:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Political Control phase:

Message from Confederate:
OC. Activate J.J. and ANV (6), leave 2SP in Fredericksburg (4) and attack Little Mac and the AotP in Manassas. You may attempt to retreat before battle, succeeding on a 1 or 2. If we have battle, Little Mac will be cavalry blind so your drm will be +2 maximum, +1 for Burnside and +1 for Wilder's Bde. Note that use of both of those is optional so you can be +0 if you wish. ANV will be between +1 and +5 with my options - must use JJ's rating, up to two subordinates and Stonewall's Bde optional.
132 3/23/2018 7:36:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message If I had looked at the map, I would have seen that I didn't have a fort, there.

Oh, well. Batter away at the AotP.

130 3/23/2018 7:31:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Messages 54 and 55.
129 3/23/2018 7:25:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I am correct, you didn't control Manassas yet so you used the same card "Ball's Bluff", a 1 card, to place a PC in WV.
128 3/23/2018 7:24:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I'll go check message 53 but isn't that the one you couldn't build because you didn't control the space yet after I did Forward To Richmond to you?
127 3/23/2018 7:22:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Yes, McDowell goes to TRT, returns next turn.

125 3/23/2018 7:12:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Do you place McDowell on the TRT to come on next turn or remove him from the game? I'm guessing you'll put him on the TRT as he is not your worst general by a long way.
124 3/23/2018 6:53:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #77: 2 / Stop the War
