73 5/5/2018 8:37:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message The Union loses 6 SW for demoting McDowell (down to 98-).

As per Rule 5.67-A1 "Special General Capabilities", when McClellan is placed in command of an Army that is within four spaces of the Union capital, the Union immediately gains a one time bonus of +5 SW plus another 2 SW for changing fortunes of war (up to 105+).

Because I demoted McDowell, he demoted is placed on the Game Turn Record Track to re-enter play during the next Reinforcement Phase.
72 5/5/2018 8:29:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Union loses 5 SW for the "#77: 2 / Stop the War" card and minus another 3 for changing fortunes of war (down to 104-).
71 5/5/2018 6:57:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #35: 1 / Elite Units
Place an Elite unit marker in any space with an Army. CSA: Stonewall Bde or Hoodís Tigers. USA: Iron Bde or Wilderís Bde. Cannot be played if all elite unit markers are in play for that side.

Message from Union:
We promote McClellan to lead the AotP.

(I'll figure out the SW hit and also update the map later this evening. I'm just playing it now to allow you to make your final move if you'd like.)
70 5/5/2018 2:15:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #77: 2 / Stop the War
Union SW reduced by five points. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
69 5/5/2018 1:51:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message We can use any rules that you want
68 5/5/2018 10:54:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message By the way, I assume we are playing with all of the optional rules except for the "19.0 Railroad Logistics Variant".

We can play with that rule if you'd like, it just seems like a bit of extra complexity to have to deal with. However it seem more likely to hamper the Union than the South which might be a good thing since the Union seems to get the upper hand in general. If we are going to implement this particular optional rule, then this might be the best time to start implementing it going forward if we plan on using it, being that the Union already has a sizable advantage in this particular game.

Otherwise I daresay we'll continue to use all of the other optional rules in the rulebook, correct?
67 5/5/2018 10:37:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message Pope +3 +Rosecrans move from Hanover VA to Williamsburg VA to Drewys Bluff VA. Pope leaves 1 SP in Drewys Bluff VA and moves to Suffolk VA. Pope leaves Rosecrans +1 SP in Suffolk VA and Pope +1 move to Norfolk VA.

Confederates turn.

South's Interception roll
65 5/5/2018 10:28:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #115: 2 / Galveston
The Confederate player may move 1 SP from a blockade runner port (open or closed) to its associated ungarrisoned Union controlled coastal fort (no Union SP present) and immediately place a Confederate PC marker (does not require a LOC) in the Coastal fort space. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
Pope +2 +Rosecrans move from Washington DC to Frederick MD, they pick up 1 SP and move to Manassas VA to Fredericksburg VA to Hanover VA.

Before I keep going, the South can Intercept at this point. To keep things moving along, I will roll for the South's Interception for this move now, and then if it is successful you can tell me if you'd like to apply it to my move into Hanover or wait until later in my move.

If you Intercept in Hanover, Smith would need a "1" and then it would be a small battle (3 SP vs 2 SP) with +3drm Union (+1 leader, +2 opponent out of supply) vs +3drm South (+1 leader, +2 Interception).

Reduce Union SW by two points, or place two PC markers in Ohio (must be placed in spaces free of Union SPs).

Message from Confederate:

62 5/4/2018 7:37:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #62: 2 / Financial Crisis
Union SW is reduced by two.

Message from Union:
I put your 3 SPs back.

Burnside +5 move to Williamsburg VA, leave 1 unit behind in Williamsburg, move to Urbanna VA, leave 1 unit behind in Urbanna and move to Hanover VA to Acquia Creek VA, leave 1 unit behind in Acquia Creek VA move to Manassas, move to Culpeper VA, leave 1 unit behind in Culpeper and move to Gordonsville VA.
61 5/4/2018 7:06:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #21: 3 / Confederate Overseas Agent
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any open Blockade Runner Port, no more than one SP per port, but more than one SP per Blockade Zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost.

Message from Confederate:
Please put these guys back where they came from in the last move when I lost 3 SPs

about what units needed to leave
60 5/4/2018 6:10:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #12: 3 / Cabinet Intrigue
Union SW reduced by three.

Message from Union:
By the way, here is the 3 CP card I play to make that last move happen in which I finally take Richmond!
59 5/4/2018 5:43:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message The AotP places a PC marker in Hanover VA. They leave 1 SP in Hanover and move into Richmond without a battle, being that the fort is ungarrisoned.

The fort is destroyed, so the Union gains 1 SW plus 2 SW for changing fortunes (up to 100+) and the South loses 1 SW (down to 81-).

Generals A. Johnston and Beauregard are moved to the Turn Track.

The South's government is forced into flight. Their Capital piece is moved to the holding box until the Political Control Phase. They lose 15 SW (down to 66-).

The AotP places a PC marker in Richmond VA. This destroys the resource space and causes the Union to gain 12 SW (up to 112+) and the South to lose 12 SW (down to 54-).

The AotP leaves Burnside and 5 SPs in Richmond and move to Hanover VA, they move to Wilderness VA, they leave General Halleck and 1 SP in Wilderness VA and move to Manassas VA where they end their turn.

Confederates turn.
58 5/4/2018 4:58:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message The South loses 10 SW (down from 92- to 82-).

I removed 1 SP from each of Fort Fisher in Wilmington NC (North Zone), Fort Pulaski in Savannah GA (South Zone), and Fort Gadson in Columbus FL (East Zone).

Message from Confederate:
55 5/4/2018 2:52:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message And per the Emancipation Proclamation card, the Union loses 5 SW and minus another 3 SW for changing fortunes (down from 105+ to 97-).
54 5/4/2018 2:49:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message I just noticed you had played the Emancipation Proclamation card interspersed between all of my other posts. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse for the South!

Three things:

1.) Do you choose to lose 10 SW or 3 SPs?

2.) I don't see anything that says you get to draw another card after playing the Emancipation Proclamation, where did you see that?

3.) And sorry to pile on, but I am pretty sure that you are forced to play that Emancipation Proclamation card "as your move"; as opposed to playing the card and then playing another card as your move.
53 5/4/2018 2:46:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message I forgot about the SW from the large battle. The Union gains 3 SW points plus 2 more for changing fortunes (from 100- to 105+) and the South loses 5 SW minus 3 more for changing fortunes (from 100+ down to 92-).
52 5/4/2018 2:01:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message General Stuart is killed!

A very fitting ending to the Union's most glorious turn!

A Confederate General is killed if this is a 1.
49 5/4/2018 1:56:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message 3*# (10+=6+5) Union
3 (8=5+3) Confederates

Both sides lose 3 units. The Confederates "win" the battle because it is both a resource and capital space.

Because the Union rolled a modified 10, there is a 1/6 chance one of the three Confederate generals could be killed. (The Union isn't at risk because it was a high force ratio attack.)

The Confederate SPs are all eliminated, which means Stuart's Cavalry Brigade is disbanded and Stuart is moved to the Turn Track to return in 3 turns (assuming he doesn't get killed). Meanwhile Beauregard and A. Johnston still remain in Richmond (but without any SPs).
48 5/4/2018 1:54:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #2: 2 / Copperheads
Reduce Union SW by two points, or place two PC markers in Ohio (must be placed in spaces free of Union SPs).

Message from Confederate:
Smith moves 8 spaces to Richmond with his 2 SP
47 5/4/2018 1:53:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #81: 3 / Emancipation Proclamation - Reshuffle/Remove
Either player must play this card as an EC on the Strategy Round immediately following a Union large or medium battle victory. Confederate loses 10 SW and 3 SPs (his choice). Union loses 5 SW. Flip GT marker to its Emancipation Proclamation side. Card must be the last one played by a player at which time it can be played as an OC card. If the play of this card as an OC results in a battle victory, there is no Emancipation Proclamation Remove from deck if event is played. If this card is played as an OC or discarded re-shuffle deck at the end of the Strategy Phase.

Message from Confederate:
For some reason I believe that I get to draw another card to replace this one
46 5/4/2018 1:47:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Just to summarize what happened over the phone before this last battle. The entire AotP flagged Manassas and attacked Fredericksburg. Beauregard +1 automatically retreated to Hanover. The entire AotP flagged Fredericksburg and attacked Hanover. Stuart's Cavalry Brigade failed to Intercept the AotP in Hanover (rolling a 6, but needing a 4). Beauregard +1 automatically retreated to Richmond.

The AotP attacked Richmond (but were out of supply in doing so).

It is a medium sized battle (11 SP vs 3 SP). The Union has a +5drm (+3 leaders, +2 force ratio) while the South has a +3drm (+1 leader, +2 opponent out of supply).

Note I had thought Stuart's "2" rating would have been used in this battle for defense, but the following rule says his rating cannot be used, so one of the other two "1" defensive rated generals has to be used instead.

=========================
7.44 NON-ARMY FORCES: Only the commanding generalís battle rating is used if the force is not an Army. A Cavalry Brigadeís battle rating may only be used in lieu of another general if the Cavalry general is the sole general in the space.

Message from Union:
I am rolling for your discretionary retreat attempt for you, but you are not committed to retreating if successful. You need a 1.

If you fail to retreat, then I will continue with my move, since that means there was nothing you could have done about it anyway.

If you successfully retreat, then please let me know if you would indeed like to retreat. If you do want to retreat, then you'll have already successfully rolled for the retreat attempt. And if you don't want to retreat, then we'll just ignore this roll.
39 5/4/2018 10:48:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message If you don't retreat, it would be a large battle (15 SP vs 6 SP) with a +3drm for the Union and a +1drm for the Confederates.

The Union removes one SP (Confederate chooses) within two spaces (including a river connection) of a Confederate SP due to poor leadership. A Union SP can be removed from a Coastal fort.

Message from Union:
We build a fort in Cairo
9 5/1/2018 10:25:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message Are we playing with the optional "Operations Queue" Rule 20.0?

This is the rule that enables a player to use multiple operations cards to activate a leader to simulate a logistics buildup. In other words, you can play a "1" OC card (without taking any actions) and then in the subsequent move play another "1" or "2" OC card which then activates a "2" or "3" general.
8 5/1/2018 9:36:00 AM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #7: 1 / Mud March
