228 9/6/2018 11:07:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message I'm on for EotS.
I've only played it 3 times myself, and the last time was several years ago, so we may botch some rules along the way. But it's the most interesting design of a wargame that I've ever seen. Some unique concepts.
Since I've played before, I'll take Japan - US is much better for learning the game. This will be my first attempt as Japan.
I need to refresh myself on the rules, but can hopefully get things set up and moving this weekend.
227 9/6/2018 11:04:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message I'll concede the game. Good learning experience. The biggest challenge for me (aside from knowing a few tricky points to defend - kind of like Alexandretta in Pursuit of Glory) has been just figuring out something to do with my troops. I stare at the board and have a hard time finding ideas - which makes me play too passively. I'd considered an attack on Nashville, but chickened out. I need to remember that as the Union, I can always afford to lose troops, while the Rebels can't.
226 9/6/2018 10:05:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message You were a little too passive in the West. Your AoC has me in a tight position. You can't assault me without taking heavy losses, but I can't leave Nashville as it is all that's holding TN together for me.

Your assault on my coastal fort, while having been a reasonable attempt, should have gone for either St. Philip/Jackson, or Florida. If it'd been the former, it would've left TX as my only Blockade Runner Port in the Western Gulf. If you'd closed the MS, it would've made that SP waste away out there.

A better attempt would've likely been Florida. I didn't have anything on hand to drive you back into the see, and the next turn if you'd dropped Hooker along with some more SPs, I would've been hard pressed without the flanking maneuver in VA to scrounge up the troops to hold the line. I would've felt comfortable being able to cover you in three positions (TN/Nashville, VA, and Northern MS), however, a fourth would have likely stretched me beyond my means.

I would've had to choose at least one front to start ceding territory, and I would've chosen MS.
225 9/6/2018 9:58:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Sorry, not Boston, Baltimore.
224 9/6/2018 9:58:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message I'd say 1 out of 3.

If I was in your shoes, I'd first (of course) try and relieve the AoP. Once that was done, within the first turn or two, I'd try and get another army in the KY and push along the MS as quickly as possible.

Theoretically the AoC should keep my AoT occupied, while the AoP could counterbalance the AoNV. It's highly doubtful as the CSA I could adequately support a third.

Cards would definitely have to fall your way.

Grafton itself isn't as key, but during your first couple of turns, I'd leave a SP in Boston, at least once space in PA leading to New England, and the same leading into KY.

A raid takes either a pair of Cavalry Generals or a 3 to 4 SP corps in my experience, and those aren't overly hard to mitigate via speedbumps. Reason cavalry is helpful is their auto-retreat option, but as they will fight on the small chart, they have a 5/6 chance to trade with a single SP.
223 9/5/2018 6:22:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message Thanks for the tips - this game should provide me a good reminder about Baltimore. :-)
I noticed too late about Grafton being so critical, a juncture too.

What do you think my odds are at this point in the game? (I'm thinking they're not that great, but curious how you would assess it).
222 9/5/2018 8:49:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message I'm good to continue playing, unless you're growing weary of this.

EotS is next on deck unless you've changed your mind.
221 9/5/2018 8:43:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Couple of hints for future USA play.

Get a SP in Baltimore. There's a card that also lets me put a PC there which would have the same impact unless you have a SP there.

When pushing into VA with the AoP, try to grab 1 (if not 2) ports,

Remember overrun's only happen on a 10:1. You missed an opportunity with the number of SPs in both your armies to split off a Corps and drop single SPs off to convert some territory. As long as you maintain 4 SPs, I won't be able to destroy your army in a Medium Battle, and even in the best case, couldn't pull in enough SPs to get to a Large Battle.
220 9/4/2018 5:34:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Lee didn't pull of his flanking move, but by Golly, Jackson pulled of mine.
219 9/4/2018 5:21:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message OUCH.
218 9/4/2018 2:03:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message And yes, I will preemptively agree that it is a bit of BS that I pulled (2) Minor & (1) Major Campaign in one hand.

I attempted to justify it by having a hand earlier of all (1)s except for a single (2), but even then.

That was a pretty ridiculous hand.
