I think there may be an issue with the Arm Bde there in that I think he was supposed to be flipped already before the battle, and then he would be taking the hit from this battle as well, so he should probably have 2 hits on him at this time. 52 7/13/2018 9:07:00 AM Turn 3 Jon Message Hey Ken, a couple of things. One is that a combat can only be shifted 3 net column shifts either right or left. So starting at 2:1, I could go up to the 5:1/6:1 column at most max. (And it's column shifts not odds shifts by the way, and two columns have two odds included. There's a 5:1/6:1 column, followed by a 7:1/8:1 column, and finally a 9:1+ column at the top.) The 4 shifts right would automatically be reduced to 3 shifts, assuming you had no shifts. You did have 1 shift though, for combined arms on defense. So it was 3 shifts net, either way. Which yes, then put me on the 5:1/6:1 column.

Regarding the D3R3 result, your guys are not all completely wiped out. You'll notice the 7 Arm SPT Bde starts at full strength which is 4 steps strong (there's a little '4' at the top of the marker reflecting this). The Arm Bde and Arm Car Bn each had 2 steps remaining of their full-strength size of 3 steps ('3' is at the top of the front side of the counter, '2' on the back side). So you have 8 total steps in the hex to start with. You have to take 3 steps off to begin with of course, the first one of which must be on the strongest defender, meaning the SPT Bde with a '5' defense. The other 2 steps losses can go on any of the three units. For example, those 2 other hits go could on the SPT Bde as well, leaving it with 1 step remaining of its original 4 steps. The way this is marked is by using the 'skull and cross bones' numbered counter that you can find under the "Markers" tab. To show the SPT Bde had 3 hits on it for example, if that were the case, first it would be flipped to show the back side with a small '3' on it at the top, and then put a '2' value skull/crossbones marker under it showing it absorbed 2 more hits. Or the 2nd and 3rd hits go on the Arm Bde (wiping it out), the Arm Car (wiping it out), or somehow split among the 3 units.

So that would be the D3 part of the result. The R3 part will then cause 2 more step losses as the units retreat away - 1 step per hex with EZOCs in them, over the first 2 hexes, as the units retreat away 3 hexes.

So basically you have to absorb 5 total step losses, leaving you with 3 steps worth of units left, sitting in Maktila. So it's possible that all 3 units could survive, each with 1 step remaining for example. Or perhaps the SPT Bde remains in Maktila with only step loss on it, i.e. 3 remaining, and the other two units are eliminated or what have you. I'll send a file showing what I mean.

For your attack on 29.20, I'm 5 on defense w/combined arms. You're 11 on attack so that's 2:1. You also have a combined arms shift so they cancel each other out. Don't see any other shifts. If you were thinking of divisional integrity, all units of the div in question that are on the board must be in the combat in order to get that shift, but that's not the case for 7 Arm in this attack, right? There's one unit of the div on the board that's not in the attack. And all our air points are down so I don't see any other shifts. What other shift were you thinking of? So I'll roll this on the 2:1 column then based on my figuring. And by the way, if you are successful "Attacking units must advance into (or through) the defender's hex if it becomes vacant during an overrun attack." (That's a rules quote from 10.0d).

People used to tell me how sharp I was but now I surprise myself at how much I forget. We have a significant family history of Alzheimers. I doubt I have it (yet at least) but I am terrified of it...that and sharks...At 55 I'm only slightly younger than my uncle who spiraled deep into it pretty quickly.
