105 8/13/2018 9:24:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message That last move left the Army of Mississippi with 2 SPs and 3 generals.
End of turn phases:
Political Control phase:
Confederates remove the Union PC marker in Memphis.

Union places PC markers in
Strasburg, Va
Wheeling, Grafton, Parkersburg and Franklin, WVa
Columbus, GA which destroys the resource center there. Union +3 SW to 111+ and Confederate drops to 94- for the burning of Columbus.

Next is state control and West Virginia converts to the Union and Union PC markers are placed in the remaining WVA spaces. Union +5 SW and goes to 116+.

Lastly War weariness sets in and Union SW -5 and -3 change and Union SW goes to 108-. Confederates at 94-.

Attrition:
Union
AoP drops 1 to 5 SPs
AoC drops 1 to 5 SPs
Confederate
J Johnston's force at Hanover drops 1 to 4 SPs.

Look this over and see if I missed anything and then take your reinforcements.
104 8/13/2018 9:03:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #89: 1 / Quaker Guns
Play as an interrupt to cancel the activation of any Union general with a strategy rating of 2 or 3.

Message from Confederate:
Yeah, kind of a yucky card left but I will use it to activate Van Dorn for a corp move from the army of Mississippi. He will take 4 SPs and move:
Memphis and destroy the Northern fort there and drop 2 SPs off.
Then over to Corinth and down the rail line to Winchester, MS doing a total of 8 movement points where he ends up with 2 SPs.
103 8/13/2018 1:01:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #98: 2 / Cape Hatteras Operations
Increase Union Blockade Level by 1

Message from Union:
Blockade level increased from 0 to 1.

Nice hand you had...hoping for a yucky last card! :-)
102 8/12/2018 2:43:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #117: 3 / Clandestine Blockade Runner Port
If the state of Florida and the St. Marks, Florida space is Confederate controlled, St. Marks is treated as a blockade runner port for the remainder of the game. Place (no LOC required) 2SPs and a fort (optional if available) in the St. Marks space. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
I will play this as an event and place a fort and 2 SPs at St. Marks to create the blockade runner port there.
101 8/11/2018 9:47:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message 3rd part:

100 8/11/2018 9:36:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Yes, I will not interrupt Pope's move.
99 8/11/2018 2:51:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message 2nd part:
Pope is dispatched from the AoPot with 5SPs (AoPot n6) => moves to Strasburg (drops 2), then to Franklin (drops 1), then to Grafton (drops 1), then ends in Wheeling with 1SP.

Ready for last part of this major campaign?
98 8/11/2018 1:04:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I don't think the Quaker Guns will interrupt that move since it is a naval move. So you can go ahead and do the other move.
97 8/11/2018 11:21:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #84: 3 / Major Campaign
Conduct up to three moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Union:
Right you are Dan...geez! Will do better with the up-dates to my board.

1st part:
Rosey & 2SPs float to Columbus (Ga) leaving 1SP in fort Jackson.

Cards to interrupt this move?
96 8/11/2018 8:03:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #38: 2 / George W. Rains, Increased Gunpowder Production
Confederate immediately places two SPs in any friendly controlled space in Tennessee with an LOC (both SPs are placed in the same space). The SPs cannot be placed in a Pro Union space or one occupied by Union SPs or fort.

Message from Confederate:
I think SW was already 107+ Union and 98- Confederate from the end of last turn with Fort Gadson converting. See log 66. SW now should be 108+ Union and 97- Confederate for fort Philip/Jackson.

I will use this as an event and bring in 2 more SPs at Clarksville, TN (n2).
95 8/10/2018 11:43:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message SW impact of Fort Jackson fallin to the Yanks:

94 8/10/2018 11:42:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #42: 2 / Kentucky Anarchy
Remove up to three enemy PC markers in Kentucky. You must also remove one of your own PC markers from the state if you have any there. Removal of a PC marker makes a space neutral. Remove from deck if event is played.

91 8/9/2018 1:09:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #63: 2 / Beaufort/Port Royal Captured
The Union Blockade Level is increased by one.

Message from Confederate:
As much as I want to move into Memphis and destroy the fort, I better do this first. Use this to form the Army of Mississippi in Panola, Ms with AS Johnston as commanding general and Bragg as the 2nd in Command with Stuart as cavalry general and Van Dorn also with 6 SPs.
90 8/8/2018 3:11:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Whoops, I misread the result. Rosecrans captures the fort with no losses with a 1 to 0 result. Rosecrans is in the fort with 3 SPs. The Confederate SP is eliminated. Did you mean to leave the Memphis fort empty?
89 8/8/2018 3:09:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Fort Philip/Jackson holds out for now with a 1 to 1 result. Rosecrans loses 1 SP and returns to Memphis with 2 SPs. The Confederates lose 1 SP but the fort remains Confederate. I finally won one of the fort battles but it is only a matter of time before this fort falls. Did you mean to leave the Memphis fort empty to do this assault?

Message from Confederate:
Amphibious Assault Battle for Fort Philip/Jackson: small battle
1st roll attacking Union force with Admiral Porter of 3 SPs under Rosecrans. Union Amphibious modifier of +0 and Porter's +2 cancels the Fort's +2 making the Amphibious modifier +0. +1 for Rosecrans and +2 for 3-1 force ratio giving a net of +3 for the Union.
2nd roll defending Confederate 1 SP with no adds.
87 8/8/2018 1:20:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message I understand now what you are contending...

The CARD stipulates a +2 modifier...and you contend that the "+2" is an amphib modifier.
OK, I agree...I can see that.
So the numbers for the Small Battle then would be:
+2 for Card cancels out the Reb Fort => to 0
+2 force
+1 for Rosey
Yanks with a +3modifier
Rebs with none.

Agree?
86 8/8/2018 8:44:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I see your point on the interrupt card not affecting the Naval move. I cannot play that interrupt card. Thanks.

However, the interpretation of the battle seems to go against the Amphibious assault rule 6.41 and the example on page 9 "Union Strategy Round 4:" where the Union played Admiral Foote to launch an Amphibious Assault against the fort at Dover. The Union got +2 for Foote and +2 for their amphibious modifier vs the +2 for the Confederate fort for a net of +2 for the Union. There were no other modifiers and the only final battle die roll adds were +2 for the Union. The confederate fort only subtracted from the Union Amphibious modifier. This seems to go along with the way that I interpret rule 6.41. I hate to be nit-picky about this but I like to get it straight. The difference in battle results would be from 17% chance of holding on to the fort to 41% (which is still not good). In the real battle if I remember correctly, the Union figured out the short range of the fort's guns and bombarded the fort with their longer ranged weapons until it surrendered.
85 8/8/2018 12:30:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message In the battle of Fort Philip/Jackson the amphibious DRM would be +0 I think (Porter +2 vs fort +2) Then Rosey would add +1 and force ratio would add +2. Net of +3 Union vs +0 Confederate.
Almost =>
Since I have NO blockade modifier, I have nothing that will degradate the fort, so the factors are:
Yanks =>
+2 for Porter
+2 for Force
+1 for Rosey
Rebs =>
+2 for fort
If the Yanks roll a '1', then they loose the battle and retire back to Memphis with 1SP loss. The SP in Fort is elim. If a 2 or more is rolled by the Yanks, they still suffer the 1SP loss, but the * on the combat table wins the day for the Yanks and the fort is occupied by the 2SPs & Rosey.

Would card #89 Quater Guns be allowed to interrupt this move?
If the CARD had said it could interrupt a NAVAL move, then Rosey would be stuck in Memphis and it would be your turn to play a card. Since it does NOT, then you will not be able to use it to cancel the naval move. See section 4.25, the last sentance for confirmation.
84 8/7/2018 8:38:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message In the battle of Fort Philip/Jackson the amphibious DRM would be +0 I think (Porter +2 vs fort +2) Then Rosey would add +1 and force ratio would add +2. Net of +3 Union vs +0 Confederate. Do I have that right?
Would card #89 Quater Guns be allowed to interrupt this move?
83 8/6/2018 10:42:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #58: 2 / Admiral Porter
Union may make a naval move with up to three SPs plus one general. If an amphibious assault occurs, you receive an additional +2 DRM. Add +2DRM to any Running the Guns die roll.

Message from Union:
Rosey & 3SPs from Memphis float down to Fort Jackson to attack the fort there
82 8/6/2018 9:01:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #109: 2 / Fortified Lines
The Confederate player may place up to two forts in any friendly controlled space with an LOC free of Union SPs and forts.

Message from Confederate:

Little Rock, Ark
Hanover, Va
81 8/6/2018 5:51:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #7: 1 / Mud March

71 8/5/2018 1:04:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message correction 3 generals and 3 SPs at Panola.
70 8/5/2018 1:03:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message Thanks, I overlooked what would be at Panola after attrition. I will move Smith over to Dover instead of Panola and that should fix the problem of too many generals there but to make sure, I will rail Polk to Hanover,Va.
This makes A Johnston, Bragg, Stuart at Panola, 2 generals and 3 SPs.
Smith at Dover with 2 SPs,
and J Johnston, Beauregard and Polk at Hanover with 4 SPs.
69 8/4/2018 11:42:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Oops, I meant moving Polk or PEMB...NOT Price who is in Fayetteville.
68 8/4/2018 11:40:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Correcto-amundo on the fort at Memphis! Thanks for the correction.
67 8/4/2018 11:35:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message End of the turn stuff is good.

Let me help with a note and see if you wish to change your last move of the season. "1" cards are excellent for use of Gen re-orgs!
At the end of the attrit phase, you will have 5 Gens in Panola...but only a total of 3SPs. 1 Gen is NOT supported by an Inf or Cav SP...so a Gen will be picked by the Yanks for placement on the Turn Record Track.

You could avoid that situation by moving Smith or ASJohn to another location OR
move Polk or Price to another location that has an SP in it.
You wish to change your last move? No problemo if you do not wish to...I will pick a Gen from Panola to go the TRT and you will place him during the Gen placement phase of the next season.
66 8/4/2018 10:18:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message End of turn phases:
Political control phase:
Union PC markers placed at Madison and Elizabeth, AR
Confederate PC marker at New Madrid is flipped to the Union side.
Union PC marker is placed at Fort Gadson.
Union SW +1 to 107+, Confederate SW -1 to 98- for Fort Gadson.
No states changed.

Attrition phase:
Union: AoP at Manassas goes from 9 to 7 SPs
AoC at New Madrid goes from 4 to 3 SPs
Rosecran's force at Memphis goes from 4 to 3.
Confederate:
Force at Panola, Ms goes from 4 (counting the cavalry) to 3 (2 + cavalry)
Force at Hanover goes from 5 to 4.
These forces have RR LOC and do not forage.
All the other forces are either 1 or 2 SPs.

No reinforcements for turn 3 but we will have strategic movement and placement of my two generals so I'll let you look this over and then do your strategic movement.
65 8/4/2018 10:06:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #64: 1 / USS Kearsarge sinks USS Alabama
Union SW increased by one.

Message from Confederate:
There is not much that the Confederates can do with 1 Operations point in moving troops so I will do a reorganization move per 5.65 and shift some generals around.
A Johnston and Smith move by rail from Nashville to Panola, MS
Beauregard moves from Richmond to Hanover joining Joe Johnston
64 8/4/2018 8:07:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message I think you forgot the SW from the fort at Memphis. See log #47. SW should be Confederates at 99-, Union at 106+ at this point.
63 8/3/2018 11:04:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message SW impact of Memphis being burnt to the ground:
-5 for the Rebs from 108+ to 100-

62 8/3/2018 11:02:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #24: 3 / Pre-War Treachery
Confederate may place up to two forts in any friendly controlled spaces with a LOC free of Union SPs and forts. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
AoCumb (n10) leaves 4SPs & Rosey in Memphis (AoCumb - n6), converts Memphis, then moves to Madison (drops 1), then to Elizabeth (drops 1), then ends in New Madrid w 4SPs.
61 8/3/2018 9:36:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #33: 1 / Orphan Brigade
Confederate immediately receives one SP in any friendly or neutral space (no LOC is required) in Kentucky that is free of Union SPs.

Message from Confederate:
I assume that those 2 SPs came from Washington, DC which would now have 1 SP.
Use this to bring in 1 SP in Louisville, Ky.
60 8/3/2018 12:42:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #118: 3 / Mexican Supply Line
Confederate player receives 2 SP in any friendly controlled Texas space (both SPs placed in the same space). The space does not need a LOC. The space may not contain Union SPs or forts. If no eligible space exists the SPs are lost.

Message from Union:
2SPs float down to Fort Gadsen to attack the empty for there. WDC - n1
Auto loose 1SP and take the fort, but not converted till end of the turn.
59 8/2/2018 4:46:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message OK, Dan...I can think of no counter arguements to your logic.

I think you got it...where my simple test was inaccurately applied. Also noticed that if you are not on a RR LOC space, you suffer attrition as OOS...THAT was missed by me when reading that section previously.

LOL, seems that after playing this game some years now, I still have much to learn! :-)

OK, your last move is good...OK for me to make my next card play?
58 8/2/2018 3:04:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message OK, so I thought I had this section figured-out...now you are throwing doubt into my understanding...

So you believe that because Culpepper (which has a RR LOC) is adjacent to Strasburg that movement into Strasburg only costs 1MP?
57 8/1/2018 10:45:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message I have the 2014 GMT version of the rules. I have looked over and reread sections 8 and 19 concerning LOC and Railroad LOC restrictions. According to section 8 both Winchester and Strasburg have LOC in our game. They do NOT have a Railroad LOC and I agree with you on that part. But Strasburg is ADJACENT to a Railroad LOC. By 8.13 it says it only costs 1 movement point to enter adjacent spaces to railroad LOC. Why do you think that adjacent spaces cost 2?
56 8/1/2018 1:49:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message If there is no RR link to the space then there is no logistics LOC link to the space...this is how I have reconciled the 19.0 section.

You have another method?
55 8/1/2018 9:21:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message I'm confused now. Strasburg no longer is a Railroad LOC because of Manassas is Union controlled and cuts the rail. However, it is adjacent to both Culpeper and Staunton which have railroad LOC. Therefore by section 19.0 the change to 8.13 under the second paragraph "A force that enters a friendly controlled space with a railroad LOC or is a space (friendly, neutral or enemy controlled) that is adjacent to a space with a railroad LOC pays one space of movement." Since Strasburg is adjacent to a railroad LOC it looks to me like this should only cost 1 movement point to move there. If I was moving from Strasburg to Winchester it looks like it would cost 2 movement points. Am I missing some errata or something?
54 8/1/2018 2:45:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message VERY early in the war to tell...the Rebs are very much in this game...a bad Yankee hand will turn this game around in a heartbeat.

The new logistics rules make your last move a problem...costs 2MPs for JJ to move from Winchester to Strasburg....no RR connecting that space.

So travel to Staunton will cost too many MPs to get everything done.
You could go to Culpepper, then complete your desired movement...but risk me rolling a "1" to intercept at Culpepper...

Worth the risk?
53 7/31/2018 8:49:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #112: 2 / Severe Storms at Sea
Interrupt card, cancel a Naval movement initiated by a 3OC. This card cannot cancel a Naval movement initiated by an Event card (including a naval movement initiated by a campaign card event). Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
This may be a very short war.
Use this to activate J Johnston at Winchester. He will take the 2 SPs there and move to Strasburg and pick up Beauregard and the 3 SPs there (n5) and continue thru Staunton, Charlottesville, Gordonsville, Hanover, Williamsburg and pick up the 1 SP there (n6) and then Richmond and drop 1 SP and Beauregard (N5) and back to Hanover. J Johnston with 5 SPs at Hanover, Beauregard with 2 SPs in the Richmond fort.
52 7/31/2018 11:22:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message You did good! Thanks for the bone rolls! :-)

AoPot will complete its move by converting Manassas, done!
51 7/31/2018 8:43:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message AoC wins at Manassas with a 2* to 1 victory. Beauregard falls back to Strasburg with 3 SPs. AoC drops to 9 SPs.
Check and see if I did these battles correctly.

Message from Confederate:
Stuart fails to intercept so we have the battle of Memphis: Medium sized battle
1st roll attacking Army of the Cumberland with 12 factors and +2 for Rosecrans and Halleck
2nd roll defending Confederates with 5 factors and no adds due to Stuart's failure and the siege guns negating the fort's defense.

44 7/29/2018 7:22:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Draw Extra Strategy card Message from Union:
Replacement of the Siege card...
43 7/29/2018 7:21:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #130: 3 / Union Siege Guns
Union plays card at beginning of a battle (or Amphibious Assault) that has a Confederate fort present and cancels Confederate fort die roll modifier in the battle. Remove from deck if event is played. Draw a strategy card.

Message from Union:
Play this card for the Battle at memphis to negate the effects of the fort this round...

Since you may retire cause of "zero" def roll...will be a battle at Memphis....so will be using this card whether Stuart paticipates or not...

Drawing card to replace the use of this one.
42 7/29/2018 7:19:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #99: 3 / Minor Campaign
Conduct up to two moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Union:
Yep, that is what I proably would do...fort in a resource location makes it pretty tough to take!

1st part:
AoCumb (n11) moves to Humboldt (converts), then leaves the 1SP there, but p/u Fremont who becomes the 2nd in command, then marches on Memphis...your options in Stuart to add another +2 to the battle if he succeeds in intercept...

I will play a card for this battle...will play it in a minute...
41 7/29/2018 1:24:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #47: 3 / CSA Recognizes KY, MO, MD and DE
Confederate places a total of two SPs in any single space in KY, MO, MD or DE that contains a general or army in these states. The space can be controlled by either side or neutral and does not require a LOC. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
I will play this to place a fort in Memphis. I think this may be more helpful in the short term than the 2 SPs. Besides, I don't have a general in a border state at the time.
40 7/28/2018 10:02:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #124: 2 / Confederate Desertion
During a Union playerís turn cause a Confederate force to immediately execute an attrition procedure plus conduct Forage if force has no LOC. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
Form the AoCumb at Columbus:
Total strength - 11SPs
Burnside in command
Halleck his 2nd
No cav bgd

-2 SW for not following the seniority protocols for the Yanks from 103+ to 98-
39 7/28/2018 1:39:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #37: 2 / Confederate Scientist
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any friendly controlled space with a LOC, free of Union SPs or forts. No more than one SP per confederate controlled state. No SPs may be placed in Pro-Union spaces.

Message from Confederate:
I'll play this as an event and bring in some more SPs.
1 SP at Williamsburg, Va
1 SP at Memphis (now 5)
1 SP at Little Rock, AK (now 2)
38 7/28/2018 3:10:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #111: 2 / Wilsonís Raid
Union may place two Union PC markers in any spaces within four spaces (includes river connections) of a single Union cavalry brigade. The four space range CAN be traced through Northeast Alabama. These PC Markers (in contravention of rule 11.3D), CAN be placed in blockade runner ports/ and or resource spaces devoid of Confederate SPs or forts (but may contain an Ironclad or Torpedoes), resulting in their immediate destruction. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
Burnside moves from Columbus w 4SPs (Columbus n9), to Humboldt (drops 2SPs - Burnside n2), then back to Columbus (p/u Fremont), then return to Humboldt (drop Fremont), then return to Columbus - n11
37 7/28/2018 2:07:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message OK, thanks! In that case, I will place Stuart at Panola, MS and make that 1 SP there his cavalry.
36 7/28/2018 12:24:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Draw Strategy cards 5 cards drawn.

35 7/28/2018 12:23:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message Just one other thing...

Wherever Stuart goes, be sure to remove an SP from that location. You "convert" the Inf SP for the CavBgd.
34 7/28/2018 12:20:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message Dan, just to help...

If you notice that flipped up-side down your three Gens are differentiated by the cav and the Inf. Since the Cav is the only one to come in, you can place it wherever you want...within the rules of course. You did good for Bragg and Smith.

So if you want to replace Stuart, go ahead. I will wait to begin till I hear back from ya.
33 7/27/2018 10:27:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message I will not start with a campaign card, you may go first again.

25 7/26/2018 6:59:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message Just for clarification:
Alabama and Florida did not receive SPs (except the blockade runner into Mobile) so Fort Morgan is currently empty.
24 7/26/2018 6:58:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message Confederate Strategic movement:
1 SP Morehead City to Manassas
2 SP Charlestown to Manassas (now 5 SPs there)
1 SP Savannah to Nashville (now 2 SPs there)
2 SPs Mobile to Memphis
1 SP New Orleans to Memphis (now 4 SPs there)
23 7/26/2018 6:41:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message Sorry for the delay. We had the grandkids here this week and it really wore us out but they were a lot of fun. I was also wondering about the riverine strategic movement. I have only played this game a few times and always thought the strategic movement that was naval was only at sea like the section reads but it makes sense to be able to travel from river ports.
22 7/25/2018 7:25:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message Roger that => you still have n2 in Mobile...there was 1SP there before your re-inforcement placing.

Yank Strats:
7 from Cinncy & 4 from Cairo float down to Columbus - n13.
Philly to Baltimore - n1
Columbus to Bloomington - n1
21 7/25/2018 5:55:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message Too many Confederates brought in. I will not bring in the one in Baldwin, FL and one in Mobile, AL. The Blockade runner will still enter at Mobile but that will be only 1 SP there now.
20 7/25/2018 5:31:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message I wish I had your command of Confederate logistics when I play the Rebs!
LOL, you only get 9 state re-inforcements...not 1SP per state.
Please give me the ones you really want to place for those 9 locations. If this changes where you wish to bring in your blockaders, no problem!
