873 12/18/2018 10:23:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message For full strength attrition- I think the 2Special Naval at Hakodate is out of supply, due to sea hexside from 3705 to 3704. There is land sticking across there, but I think this is correct. The rest of the Japanese home island units are within overland range, so they are good.
872 12/18/2018 10:19:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Attrition part 1- There are no reduced strength air/ground units, allied or Japanese, out of range of a friendly HQ.

871 12/18/2018 10:16:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message POTW was achieved, but again, not bothering to mark it. If somehow you get 7 PW off in one turn, I may regret these words, but if you do, you deserve it :)

870 12/18/2018 10:15:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Similarly, the Japanese are down to 3 resource hexes, so Allies should pick up three PW. I'm not going to bother to mark it. I don't think japan can get the allies to the negotiating table.
869 12/18/2018 9:44:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Political status- Probably missed last turn, but the allies capture the Marshall islands, and two hexes return to US control. Won't really affect anything.
868 12/18/2018 9:08:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message Clearly you didn't understand the boon you had in this McArthur ISR ender.

You could have played the event and enjoyed the bonus, even if you are not under ISR.

So during this hand, you'd have played Olympic when you played the Sub Card, then played this event, and discarded the Sub Card in order to put Olympic back in your hand. Pretty much game over..., especially if the second Olympic was the last card in the hand, which would give you, in all likelihood, the final back to back play at the start of next turn.

No Mulligan! If I manage to pull this out, you'll remember your lesson better.
867 12/18/2018 9:05:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Defeat was guaranteed for Japan, but surprise condition makes it so they don't even get a chance to shoot back.
PBM the two ships back to Tokyo. Or rather, CV stays in Tokyo.

Message from Allies:
Die roll for intercept (Japan has no cards to play). I believe you do have an Future Ops, but it can't be used as last card. -2DRM for air zoi.

865 12/18/2018 9:02:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Play Strategy card as Operations #10: 1 / General Douglas MacArthur: Pacific First Strategy
This event ends a US inter-service rivalry. Flip the US Inter-Service Rivalry marker to its Strategic Agreement side. If the US Inter-Service Rivalry marker is already on Strategic Agreement side there is no additional effect. Bonus: If this card is played as an event, the Allies have the option to discard a card of their choice and re-place it with any card from the discard pile (not those removed from play). Remove from play if used as an event.

Playing as ops on cent pac, for 4 activations.
From Tokyo, CV Franklin and BB Mass will attack Hakodate. BB from Hakodate, and CV from Tokyo.
From Iwo Jima, the Corp there will transport to Tokyo.
From Ponape, via Guam, the 11th AF LRBs will land at Iwo Jima.

Message from Japanese:
Yes, looking at your attack, I would have activated 11th AD.

In fact, when I tried to read the ACTS emails (which come in out of order), it was quite confusing as to where these battles where. Your ACTS messaging relies heavily on viewing the VASSAL file. That wouldn't be possible during a PBEM tournament. In such, only what is explicitly written in ACTS counts. Obviously players of good will can cope with abbreviations and other routine messaging, but if there is confusion, the GM usually has a note in the tournament rules that ONLY what is written in ACTS will be used in adjudication. It's a good habit to get into (or in my case to keep up), but it's not strictly necessary between us.

Regardless, I could not follow the thread of your attack from the emails alone, and most importantly I did not notice anyone attacking the 11th AD, mainly because all the other targets where referred to geographically. So I feared that you'd failed to pin the Army Air at Seoul. That made me worried that you'd actually attacked Seoul and not Pusan during the previous turn, and just made a simple mistake of misnaming the location. You see, it was such a simple battle that I didn't get a VASSAL file for it. So that's the story about last evening's concern. I was really, really hoping this hadn't been a mistake on your part, because your entire invasion force might have been wiped out.

I'm really going to hate it if my good sportsmanship bites me in the ass here, but in Battle C, there is a chance that the CVE Casablanca can roll a CH on the Korea Army..., this is that die roll.

(11th AirDiv) PBMs to Ominato.
862 12/16/2018 10:17:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message I had long since deduced from the length of time you held it, that Olympic Coronet was your FOQ. So no strategic surprise, but the card comes with its own, natural, operational surprise. Especially good move on your part to play it as the first card on a back-to-back-to-back move. (Assuming my hole card isn't a military event that I'll want to use.)

I don't have the time to audit this closely, but I'm already thinking that the initial reports from the beachhead MIGHT be too optimistic. I'll go over everything tomorrow.

It's not losing a corps that costs a PW point, but losing the WHOLE FORCE if (a) you're attacking and (b) at least one unit in the force is a US Division or Corps (and not Filipino).
861 12/16/2018 9:49:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Allied PBM-
The two full strength CV Franklin and Hancock, plus the 4 full strength BB, N Carolina, Mass, Miss and Missouri will help hold Tokyo.
The rest of the navy goes to the alternate staging point at Ulithi.
CV (Wasp and Intrepid), CVE Casablanca, BC Alaska, and CA Baltimore.
To you for your PBM or reaction into hexes if you want to reverse the battle some. In all likelihood it won't change my PBM.
860 12/16/2018 9:43:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Since I've taken a bit of liberty with your reaction (not seeing that you really had any), I will return this to you in case you want to PBM your Air, or attempt to react into any of the battle hexes, including Iwo. There are reasons you may want to do that, so I leave that to you.
859 12/16/2018 9:42:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Minor point, but I take Iwo and Tokyo, for two PotW. That will be enough to hold onto the POTW PW.

I believe I've already lost a Corp this turn, so the one lost doesn't affect PW this turn. I could be wrong on the turn however.

858 12/16/2018 9:40:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Both players do double damage. 132 points for the allies against Japan, removes the intrinsic defense.
12 doubled is 24.
If there was ever a time to double it was now. That is four bloody steps, and the Emperor is pleased by the blood letting even though the palace is surrounded.
I'm going to eliminate the 9th, and flip the other two corps. Ouch.

Message from Allies:
Ground battle for Tokyo.
Intrinsic 12-12 for Japan, vs 3 Corps. or 66 points.
Allies get +4 from ships/air, -0 from terrain (clear), for a net +4. Japan gets +3 for amphi assault, and defenses are halved. this will hurt, but units will be on the island.

856 12/16/2018 9:34:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message with 50 damage, the 25th Army is flipped and removed, leaving the intrinsic defense only to defend against a 3 corp assault.

854 12/16/2018 9:33:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Battle F also has no effect. My three pinning battles do no damage, but do pin reaction forces. So I will count it as a success.

Battle E next.

Peppered but not seriously hurt. How it is considered a mission success by pinning the units.

Skipping E for now, and doing F. G is an auto success unless you can find a way to send a unit out there. This is technically feasible. If you want to do that, please do and resolve.

Return fire also plunges into the sea, mainly missing its targets.

Battle B-
I suppose you can activate this unit and move him if he survives. I will assume you will do so. I have everything else pinned around the main combat of Tokyo, hence why I've moved on to resolving without your reaction. If you wish to send someone else into the grinder feel free; the point of the attack will not change.

847 12/16/2018 9:22:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Play Future Offensive card as Event #9: 3 / Olympic and Coronet: the Invasion of Japan
Activate: US SW or Central Pacific HQs only. Logistic Value: 12 Conditions: In order for this card to be played as an event at least one Japanese Islands hex must be declared a battle hex and the potential for a ground combat must exist in the designated Japanese Islands battle hex. Bonus: The Allies temporarily gain 4 ASPs that can be used for the duration of this Offensive.

OC: 3 EC: 5

Message from Allies:
Playing on Cent Pac for the event. 15 activations possible.
note, 8 asps total available due to bonus 4 asps from card.

1-9) 6 Naval units from Ulithi, plus 3 Corp units (6 total ASPs consumed)
10-12) 2 dinged CV from Truk and the CA Baltimore.
13) BC Alaska from Wewak
14) Corp from Ponape (8th ASP used)
15) CVE Casablanca from Kavieng

Battle A- CVL Amagi at Hakodate
CV Franklin to 3806. CA Baltimore will go to Hakodate.
22 A/N Factors

Battle B- 11th AD
BB Miss from Ulithi and CV (wasp) from Truk will attack.
Wasp stays at Pusan for the strike. 23 A/n factors.

Battle C- Korea Army
CVE Casablanca, camps at 3608 and bombs 3606, to fix the units in place.
6 A/N factors, enough to pin, but not flip.

Battle D- Ominato
BB North Carolina simlarly shells the untis at Ominato so they can't join the big party.
16 factors, enough to potentially flip.

Battle E- Tokyo
BB Missouri and BC Alaska pulls in to shell. CV Hancock and CV (Intrepid), sticks a hex out to bomb.
50 A/N factors, enough to blow away the non-intrinsic factors.
FYI, this is where the three Corp will land. Guaranteed to face only the intrinsic defense.

Battle F- BB Mass pulls in to Nagoya, to also pin the guys there.
16 factors, enough to potentially eliminate.

Battle G- The Ponape Corp will hang back and take Iwo Jima, just incase everyone survives.

A bit of intel- You can't play a weather card, or a reaction card as your last Future Ops card.
So this one goes through.

OC: 5 EC: 7

Message from Japanese:
I saw a message, maybe a text, that said that your Korea landing would have the accompanying CV stay in Pusan.

Actually, due to both spell check and your Seoul/Pusan comment, it wasn't quite that clear..., but understandable enough. However, I some how got the idea you were going to follow up with an ACTs or a VASSAL file. So this has been delayed.

Playing this for OPS on HQ South Seas for 5 NAVY activations:
1. CVL Amagi from Port Arthur to Ominato
2. 2nd SNLF from Marcus Is. to Ominato

No Battles; back to you.

Playing as ops on Anzac. Tainan forces (Corp + CV Bunker Hill) will take Pusan. You can intercept this time. CV heads all the way to Pusan to get into the hex to lend guns and planes to the operation.
840 12/14/2018 8:59:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message I flipped the Turn Marker to the "Tojo Resigned" side in the VASSAL inbound.

The Alternate HQ you see are a variant from a couple of C3i Magazine articles. The Sub Base counters, from my article. But the HQ markers from a second. Note the differences in bonus command points. For example, SWPAC (McArthur) now only has 1 bonus. But in the Yellow Diamond above that, it shows a +1. That means if he is activating a US ARMY ground or Air unit, he can activate an additional one of those. Similarly CENTPAC can activate an additional Naval (or Marine) unit, but Nimitz basic number is now a 2.

The net effect is that some HQ are weakened IF they are not commanding their normal service's types of forces. There are some other HQ limitations. The sum of these changes is to make things a slightly more challenging for the Allied Player. Look thru all the junk I sent you earlier; I'm pretty sure I sent that article along.
839 12/14/2018 8:45:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Play Strategy card as Event #43: 1 / Tojo Resigns: Moderates in Power
If the game turn is 1944 or later, this card must be played as an event otherwise it is a Japanese option to play as an event, an OC, or discard. Reduce US Political Will by two. The Allied Manchurian Invasion card's prerequisite has been met. Flip the game turn marker from its PM Tojo to its Tojo Resigns side as a reminder. RESHUFFLE: If this card is played as an OC or a discard, reshuffle the Japanese deck at the end of this game turn. This card may not be played as a Future Offensive. Remove from play if used as an event.

Well, you picked up the traditional major US logistics base, Ulithi, for the end game. I might have evacuated it just a bit too soon..., that's a good strategic set up for you. Operationally, wearing down the defending A/N units will be telling. But your tactical results had to be very frustrating, tho in the end, probably meaningless.

BATTLE D (Kure)
The US BB Task Force is attacked by air and can get to air cover of its own. No die roll for these units.

4.31 National Status Segment
Philippines do NOT yet return to US Imperialist Control (Davao is still under Jpn Control)
The DEI fall back under the control of their Colonial Masters. So ends the Far East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. The sniveling dogs who resisted the Emperor will now get what they asked for, decades of civil war followed by Communist governments.
Progress of War, especially in Europe, is (barely) satisfactory.

Political Will Segment
Political Will from +5 to +6 for DEI.
B-29 Bombing PW point taken earlier

ATTRITION PHASE
There are some flipped units on both sides out of supply, but those are inside of an Allied Command Range and are not attrited.

Markers Adjusted. Have already Increased the Allied ASPs to TEN!!!

The Jpn get 200%, for 18 hits, enough to knock out 3 Allied steps, but only one was available.

No Jpn PBM. Not sending a VASSAL file, you can remove your corps when you PBM.

Back to the Allies for said PBM. You can do the End of Turn stuff if you choose, or leave it for me tomorrow morning. You do have that one Reinforcing CA to bring on. Other than HQ CF I have no reinforcements, so you can do your Replacements along with Reinforcements. (Unless my HQ location is going to make a difference..., which really seems unlikely.)
