Union may place two Union PC markers in any spaces within four spaces (includes river connections) of a single Union cavalry brigade. The four space range CAN be traced through Northeast Alabama. These PC Markers (in contravention of rule 11.3D), CAN be placed in blockade runner ports/ and or resource spaces devoid of Confederate SPs or forts (but may contain an Ironclad or Torpedoes), resulting in their immediate destruction. Remove from deck if event is played.

Union loses 4 units, the Confederates lose 3 units.

The Confederates win the battle so they gain 3 SW points (up to 91+) and the Union loses 5 SW (down to 87-).

By the way, just a minor correction: we had both lost 3 units in the previous Large Battle. I subtracted the correct amount of units on the map, but I mentioned in my post that we both only lost 2 units.

82 9/18/2018 12:09:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #82: 3 / Foreign Intervention - Reshuffle/Remove
Either player can play this card as an EC when Confederate SW is 110+. If this is the last card in a players hand or the second to last and the player holds the Emancipation Proclamation, if the condition is met, it must be played as an EC, if not it can be played as an OC. EFFECTS: 1. Union Blockade reduced by one (cannot become greater than 4 for the remainder of the game). 2. Union -2 SP Reinforcements for the remainder of the game (Union choice). 3. Union SW reduced by 10. Remove from deck if event is played. If card is played as an OC or discarded re-shuffle deck at end of the Strategy Phase.

Message from Union:
The AotP leaves Halleck and Burnside and 7 SPs in Wilderness, and moves to Manassas where they pick up 1 SP and drop off Fremont, they move to DC and drop off Rosecrans in DC, they return to Manassas and then to Wilderness where the AotP reunites.

The AotP then attacks Hanover. It would be a Large Battle (14 SP vs 7 SP) with +1drm Union versus +4drm Confederates. Do you retreat or play a card?
81 9/18/2018 11:13:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #21: 3 / Confederate Overseas Agent

78 9/18/2018 10:11:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #3: 1 / Forward to Richmond
Union may activate any Union army within 4 spaces of Richmond, VA. The army must enter Richmond or move as close to Richmond as possible, but may convert spaces to maintain an LOC. All SPs associated with the army must be moved (no dropping off SPs), except 1 SP may be left if the Army began its movement from a fort (if last SP, move completed). If played by the Confederate, he draws a card from the Union hand which is discarded, and the Union player follows the instructions of this card as his next card play.

Message from Union:
AotP moves to Wilderness. From there, they attack Hanover (leaving Buell and 1 SP remaining in Wilderness as they were). Note 2 SPs remain in Manassas because the maximum army size is 15 SPs and there had been 17 SPs in Manassas.

It would be a large battle (15 SP vs 10 SP) with +1 DRM Union (+0 commanding general due to lack of Cavalry Intelligence, +1 for one subordinate general) vs +4 DRM Confederates (+0 commanding general, +4 for two subordinate generals). Do you retreat or do anything special?

49 9/14/2018 7:48:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message Rosecrans to the turn track
Since Wednesday things have been hectic.
Sorry for the delay.
48 9/14/2018 1:00:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Just an fyi that I am still awaiting to hear which of my generals in DC gets sent to the Turn Track.
47 9/12/2018 2:04:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Yes, that was a mistake by me in retrospect. A fort can support one general and one SP can support up to two generals. However I mistakenly thought a fort plus one SP could therefore support three generals; whereas together they can still only support up to two generals.

According to Rule 5.34 below, you get to pick one of my three leaders to be sent to the Turn Track:
Banks (3) 0-0
Burnside (2) 0-1
Rosecrans (3) 1-1

================

Rule 5.34:
If at the end of any strategy round this requirement is not met, then excess generals, not Cavalry Brigades, are placed on the Game Turn Record Track to reenter play next turn (the opposing player picks the excess generals). During the course of a strategy round these criteria may be and often are violated, just as long as they have been satisfied at the end of the strategy round. If, despite good intentions or enemy play, a general is in violation of 5.34, he is removed.

42 9/12/2018 1:07:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #122: 3 / Crisis in the West
If two or more Confederate armies are in Virginia, the Confederate player places (Confederate choice) one army (placed, not moved) in a Confederate controlled Resource space (destroyed or not), Riverine port, or Blockade Runner port (open or closed) in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, or Texas. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
AotP flags Manassas. They leave 1 SP in Manassas, move to Frederick, then move to Harpers Ferry.

The AotP picks up 2 SP and attacks Winchester with 11 SPs. This would be considered an overrun (see Rule 5.72 below), however you have a chance to "retreat before battle". I will roll for that on your behalf, you need a "1" or a "2".

======================

5.72 OVERRUNS: If the force ratio is 10-1 or greater and no fort is present, then there is no battle, although retreat before battle is allowed. Instead, the smaller force is eliminated and the larger force may continue moving.
41 9/11/2018 8:51:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message You wrote "Hold on a minute" before saying you were retreating to Wilderness. However there was a lot going on, so I am not sure if you are all done or not.

Message from Confederate:
37 9/11/2018 1:13:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message I believe Bragg automatically becomes the Commanding General upon the creation of the Army according to Rule 5.22. On a subsequent move, you could then relieve Bragg in order to promote Smith. And while creating the army, you only pay a 2 SW penalty due to A. Johnston (in Nashville) having a 10 political rating.

"5.22 DESIGNATING THE COMMANDING GENERAL:
If more than one general is present, then the one with the highest political value is the commanding general. In cases where two or more generals have the highest political value, the owning player determines the commanding general. When an Army is created, the player’s Strategic Will is reduced by 2 SW if any general on the map (not Army Display) has a higher political rating than the new commanding general’s political rating (regardless of how many such generals exist)."
36 9/11/2018 1:03:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message And you need to play a 2 or 3 card to build an army as per Rule 5.21:

"Playing a 2 or 3 value OC allows an Army marker to be placed on any controlled space, with a LOC, containing at least one general and five or more in-supply SPs."
35 9/11/2018 1:01:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message There are two spaces equidistant to Richmond from which to pick: Wilderness and Fredericksburg.
34 9/11/2018 12:59:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Whoops, my math was wrong, the Confederates' SW drops to 88- SW, not 87-. (93-5=88)

If a general casualty occurs in a battle caused by this card, the Commanding General is eligible, this is an exception to the rules. See 4.5.

Message from Union:
AotP (everyone except Banks, Burnside, and Rosecrans and 1 SP) move to Frederick. The AotP picks up 1 SP in Frederick and attacks Manassas with 14 SP. It is a large battle (14 vs 10) with +3drm Union vs +2drm Confederates.

12 9/8/2018 5:04:00 AM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #7: 1 / Mud March
Interrupt enemy force currently moving to no more than one space of movement. (Converting a space counts as movement.) Applies to only one move during a Major or Minor campaign card, but not a special army-naval move.

11 9/7/2018 9:26:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message And did you really draw four "1" cards to start this game? If so, we can start over as you really shouldn't be starting behind the eight ball right from the get-go.
10 9/7/2018 2:18:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #104: 1 / Big Bethel
Either player may move up to two infantry SPs from the same space as if they were led by a General. This move is a Corps move and may enter enemy controlled spaces because the SPs are moving as if they are led by a general.

Message from Union:
Per this Event Card, the two units in Pittsburgh PA make a "Corps move" and move to Uniontown PA > Grafton WV > Franklin WV > Staunton VA > Charlottesville VA > Gordonsville > Culpeper VA.

Beauregard can attempt to Intercept them in Culpeper if he'd like. Otherwise it is the Confederates' turn.
9 9/7/2018 12:43:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #25: 1 / Confederate Railroad Degradation

4 9/5/2018 4:02:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #14: 3 / Red River Campaign
May not be discarded by the Union. Union must use this card as an OC. If at the conclusion of movement, a Union SP is not on or adjacent to Grand Ecore, LA, then the Union loses 5 SW points. If a Union SP is in one of the objective spaces then a Union PC marker can immediately be placed to convert the space or spaces. Remove from deck if Union plays card.

Message from Union:
We naval transport 3 units from DC to Sabine City TX.

However because of this card, the Union loses 5 SW (down to 95-).
