117 12/2/2018 5:21:00 PM Spring 1862 Moderator Message I tend to agree with George on mistakes. If this is in the middle of tournament, I would rule to play on.
But I have allowed another game to re-start due to disagreement, I will let you two re-start. Plus we're also starting a bunch of other games with new sign-ups.
116 12/1/2018 11:12:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Generally I would agree with what you are saying George, but we have only played 3 turns, and the mistake you made was rather large. Given that the tournament started early, it would be a relatively simple matter to re-start this game at the same time all the second games are starting. I know that if an opponent pointed out that I had made an illegal move, regardless of the time of the error, I would offer to either return to the point where the error was made, if possible, or simply restart the game.
115 12/1/2018 9:57:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message I'm happy to solicit guidance from James. He's in charge. As a general principle, I agree that mistakes should be corrected if spotted within a reasonable time or if fixing them doesn't alter things. But one can't restart every game if a mistake is discovered several turns later. It simply doesn't work.
And as for EP, I did play it correctly, based upon the rules as written and the designer's interpretation. If we want to fix the EP play, it's not that hard (undo the play of EP, set the deck to reshuffle, and change the turn). Pretty straight forward.
But we'll make James earn his keep.
114 12/1/2018 6:35:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message George, just found out about another major mistake we have made in our game. Although you landed at Forts Phillip/Jackson on your first card, it doesnít change control till Turn 2. So the landing at New Orleans was not legal. Between this, and the E.P. fiasco I am inclined to do what some others have done since the E.P ruling and restart the game. If you are agreeable Iíll contact James, or if you like we can request guidance from Master Pei.

102 11/30/2018 1:30:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Hey George,
The deck thing is a problem. Letís just leave it as is, I donít think thus is going to be a long game, so probably not worth rewinding everything. Will get reinforcements placed in just a bit.
101 11/30/2018 12:48:00 AM Spring 1862 Confederate Message OK, will spend some time on this tomorrow so we can get moving.

100 11/30/2018 12:21:00 AM Spring 1862 Union Message I'm fine backing up if we can reinsert EP into deck and reshuffle for Spring 1862. Or we can continue as is. Minor preference for the former as that's what Mark says the rule is. Doubtless, you'll still end up with the raid.
99 11/29/2018 8:30:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message George, do you have any strong feelings about this?
98 11/29/2018 6:37:00 AM Spring 1862 Moderator Message Please proceed with your game. The revised ruling is from Mark Herman's explanation on consim where he explained that the Design Note under Rule 5.72 is only meant in context of overruns.

Any questions, please send me an email.
97 11/29/2018 6:33:00 AM Spring 1862 Moderator Message EP revised ruling:
The Emancipation Proclamation event requires that the Union wins a medium or large battle. Two exceptions are overruns (5.72) and Army Amphibious Assault (6.15). The Design Note under 5.72 is in the context of overrun only, where any size force overrunning a fort would trigger EP.

* An amphibious assault on an ungarrisoned fort will not trigger EP except in the rare case where an Union Army wins the AA and 6 SP are involved.

** An ungarrisoned coastal fort has 0 SP. If you were to capture it in a Small battle, this would NOT trigger EP.
96 11/28/2018 11:32:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message SW looks right as well
95 11/28/2018 11:30:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message Got it.

92 11/28/2018 7:47:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message George, I only show 1 SP in DC prior to your reinforcements (51), do you want to change any of your strategic moves.
I also show that SW was adjusted Fort Gadson back on entry 65, which I guess was incorrect, as it doesn't get scored till you control it. So will recalculate from point of error and see what we get.

84 11/26/2018 10:57:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Problem is, I knew the rule. But I read and reread the card and looked in the rules under EP and couldn't find anything. I just didn't think to look under overrun since the fort invasion was not an overrun situation. I assumed I was mis-remembering the rule. Probably should have just dropped Mark an email, but . . .
83 11/26/2018 10:51:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Dude,
Will play last card manana, after I put your guys back and kill 3 SPís.
I agree with you. This needs to be on the card, and in a more appropriate section of the rules. Just about everyone Iíve ever played against does not know about this rule.
82 11/26/2018 7:44:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Donít hide behind that legal mumbo jumbo George, youíre not fooling anyone!
81 11/26/2018 6:27:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message It will be interesting to see what Master Pei says. The card text states medium or large battle, which the fort invasion was not. Also, the design note was under the section for overrun, which does not apply here.
80 11/26/2018 6:13:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Set Deck Reshuffle Deck will not be reshuffled before next deal
79 11/26/2018 5:30:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message George,
The AA to take Fort Gadson is considered sufficient to trigger Emancipation. This is very clearly explained in the italicized DESIGN NOTE in the 5.72 Overrun section. As this card has been played completely out of sequence I will contact Mr. Pei for a ruling. I will copy you on the letter.
78 11/26/2018 3:17:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Set Deck Reshuffle Deck will be reshuffled before next deal
77 11/26/2018 3:16:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #81: 3 / Emancipation Proclamation - Reshuffle/Remove
Either player must play this card as an EC on the Strategy Round immediately following a Union large or medium battle victory. Confederate loses 10 SW and 3 SPs (his choice). Union loses 5 SW. Flip GT marker to its Emancipation Proclamation side. Card must be the last one played by a player at which time it can be played as an OC card. If the play of this card as an OC results in a battle victory, there is no Emancipation Proclamation Remove from deck if event is played. If this card is played as an OC or discarded re-shuffle deck at the end of the Strategy Phase.
