68 12/9/2018 2:11:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Message E/S-Dan, please don't forget to update the AR round when it moves forward on your next action. that will help our new guy see that NP powers are available to be active again (Eric, this is shown by pulling off their small activation marker from the active player large marker)

at beginning of my log I put putting E-S there on active player and I think it should stay on E-S through this game turn to show who is First player at all times. i always have to check that in games where we keep changing the active player marker to the next guy's faction and there is no need to change it to active player each time since we ping the next person up anyways, plus there is a vassal log showing who just went.
67 12/4/2018 7:38:00 AM 386-374 BC Greek Message I will not do that this action round.
66 12/3/2018 10:33:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Message You could still play a ďneutral power activates ď card or propose an alliance

49 11/28/2018 5:21:00 PM 386-374 BC Roman Message I will use this to boost Capua to Level 2 Loyalty and reduce Antium to loyalty 2 which matches their garrison level.

Log up and Gauls/Rod are up. i hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. mine involved more travel than I would have preferred but was otherwise good.
48 11/24/2018 9:34:00 PM 386-374 BC Roman Message Yes it still is. Many apologies but Iíve been traveling for thanksgiving and hopefully can move by tomorrow when I get back. Should have let yíall know

for future reference, if I fail to label dice, treat attacker dice as first

44 11/17/2018 11:35:00 AM 386-374 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message No response cards
43 11/17/2018 10:28:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Message Just saw your message rod. Will change back in my battle resolution log
42 11/17/2018 10:18:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Message That just leaves Dan and Es.
Eric the process for all decisions of non player powers is lowest VP then tie breaker but certain powers may never decide for certain ones (Rome never decides for Volsci no matter her VP, Greeks never decide for Carthage, and Gauls canít for T-Gaul).

The last caveat is that anyone allied with those powers on the list are also removed from being able to decide for the nonís so long as they are allied
41 11/17/2018 9:00:00 AM 386-374 BC Greek Message Also, Greece is fine if you want to increase the loyalty of all our cities!
40 11/17/2018 8:59:00 AM 386-374 BC Greek Message Greek's aren't playing a reaction card. How did you determine who is responsible for the Volsci?
39 11/16/2018 8:51:00 PM 386-374 BC Gaul Message Volsci will stay outside and fight

Gauls have no response card
let's see if Etruscans or Greeks will weigh in
38 11/16/2018 8:26:00 PM 386-374 BC Gaul Message Wait. Messana is correct at 1. Read what you posted again:

i found the post about loyalty on *Messana*. i fixed it in the log of my move that is up so far.

"The loyalty in the Greek city of *Tarentum* is different than my physical map. Vassal = 1 and Physical Map = 3. Double checked BGG and found a post saying that the vassal file is incorrect. Should be 3"

The BGG reference has no mention of Messana, plus I already announced all the starting loyalty levels in log 17.
37 11/16/2018 3:11:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Message After Rod decides about troops in or out of walls then it will go to me for a possible combat card first and then around the horn.

36 11/16/2018 3:07:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Play Strategy card - Operations #14: 2 / The Sacred Band

Message from Roman:
I've learned that you pay a big price if you don't jump on the Volsci with maximum force early.

Camillus takes 3 CU from Velitrae, n2 left behind. 1st-Roma and pu Valerius then back to Velitrae for 2nd. 3rd, 4th to Roma and lastly fight in Antium. Rod/Gauls make the call on fighting fully in field or partially or what have you.
35 11/16/2018 3:03:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Message let's leave E/S marker on the round track to be a reminder that they went first in AR and Gauls will be going last for each AR. Through experience this is much batter than constnantly changing the active player as it gets forotten sometimes and we pass our turns to each other over ACTS anyways.

doing my move now.
34 11/16/2018 12:43:00 AM 386-374 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message Rome's up right?
33 11/13/2018 4:08:00 AM 386-374 BC Gaul Message Gauls have no response
32 11/12/2018 6:52:00 PM 386-374 BC Roman Message Ah, the perils of making a voyage into Carthaginian land. By the way, welcome Eric. Sorry it was not a very warm welcome from the game
31 11/12/2018 6:15:00 PM 386-374 BC Greek Message File is up. Two bad rolls to start, so things are bound to get better, right? Rome next.

Message from Greek:
Naval combat roll. 1 or 2 is success. 5 or 6 results in attrition roll.
28 11/12/2018 3:35:00 PM 386-374 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message I recommend waiting 24 hours. At this point, since no one played a response card you should go ahead.
27 11/11/2018 1:25:00 PM 386-374 BC Greek Message How do you want to handle reaction cards? Should I roll for naval movement or wait to see if someone can try to stop the move?
26 11/11/2018 1:24:00 PM 386-374 BC Greek Play Strategy card - Operations #32: 3 / Pyrrhic Victory

Message from Greek:
I will play for the ops and a chance to sail to Caralis. I will request a roll on the naval combat table.
25 11/10/2018 9:30:00 PM 386-374 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message Done -- Greeks up next. I shared a dropbox folder with the Vassal file.
24 11/10/2018 9:24:00 PM 386-374 BC Etruscan-Samnite Play Strategy card - Event #23: 2 / Neutral Power Activates

Message from Etruscan-Samnite:
Raise 1 CU with the Volsci.
23 11/10/2018 9:18:00 PM 386-374 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message Eric, the one take-away for me about this game is that combat is hugely unpredictable. Try to make sure you can afford to lose before you initiate a combat!
22 11/10/2018 8:44:00 PM 386-374 BC Roman Message Let us know if that concludes your move
21 11/10/2018 8:42:00 PM 386-374 BC Roman Play Strategy card - Event #13: 2 / Disaster at Trifanum

Message from Roman:
Cancel it. Phew

Using phones so I cannot copy paste
20 11/10/2018 8:35:00 PM 386-374 BC Etruscan-Samnite Play Strategy card - Event #33: 3 / Great Latin Revolt

Message from Etruscan-Samnite:
Playing the event: "Remove 3 Roman support unless cancelled by Disaster at Trifanum." Do the Romans play Disaster at Trifanum as a response?
19 11/10/2018 4:36:00 AM 386-374 BC Gaul Message Eric, the Greeks are one of the easier, if not the easiest, powers for a new player.

The usual path for Greek VPs is against Carthage, a neutral power, unlike the powers who need to fight another player. So, Greek players can usually concentrate most of their forces against Carthage while maintaining a smaller force on Italy to keep the other players honest, particularly the Romans.

Greek loyalty is the one important thing to maintain, as mercenary leaders require a constant "upkeep" of loyalty to keep Greek leaders on the board.

As the name of this game is Sword of Rome (and not Sword of Greece or Sword of Etruscans), note there is a Roman event that can pick up a free VP spot from both the Samnites (Fregellae) and the Greeks (Thurii). Since all the other Greek VP spots are walled cities, it's easy to ignore Thurii. Don't.

Our Greek player won our previous abbreviated game, so you can also ask him (Dan).
18 11/10/2018 4:22:00 AM 386-374 BC Gaul Message Dan, when you create the initial Vassal file, please verify all the loyalties are setup accordingly
17 11/10/2018 4:20:00 AM 386-374 BC Gaul Message I pulled my map out and here are the starting loyalties for all walled cities:

Pisa 1
Tarquini 1
Sutrium 1
Narnia 1
Rome 3
Antium 3
Capua 1
Naples 1
Tarentum 3
Rhegium 2
Messana 1
Syracuse 2
Lilybaeum 3
Carthage 3

Now that we all have cards, Etruscan-Samnites will go first.
16 11/10/2018 2:45:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Message i'm fine being the owner Rod. You as teh Gauls win all ties so you decide first player. Also, i believe it is either Messana or Tarentum that needs +1 loyalty. it's a vassal screw up from 1st edition map.

i can look for BGG thread on another log file if need be.
15 11/10/2018 2:43:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Draw Strategy cards
14 11/10/2018 2:43:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Message welcome Eric. i have a few games under my belt now so i will help if desired. trust us Romans, our motto is "strength and honor" so how could you go wrong.

11 11/9/2018 8:27:00 AM 386-374 BC Greek Message Nice to meet you. Thanks for letting me join. This is an honest to goodness first game for me. If you have any generic greek strategy that you wish to impart, please feel free to share.

I haven't played this on ACTS either, so if there are handy shortcuts you can recommend, I'm all ears.
10 11/9/2018 2:43:00 AM 386-374 BC Gaul Message Jonathan, note as I created this game when I was Rome, you are now the owner of the game. If you'd rather I be the game owner, I'll close this game and start another one now that we know who all the powers are.
9 11/9/2018 2:42:00 AM 386-374 BC Gaul Draw Strategy cards

Message from Roman:
Eric will play:

1 Romans
2 Greeks
3 Etruscan-Samnites
4 Gauls
1 11/9/2018 2:31:00 AM 386-374 BC Roman Message Welcome Eric to our new game. Ignore your countries for now; this is just to setup the game and so we can start communicating.

Jonathan and Dan have requested that they play new countries from our previous game. Plus, Jonathan has requested not to play the Etruscan-Samnites and Dan has requested not to play the Gauls as they are each playing another game as those powers.

Therefore, I will first fully randomize for Eric, then for Dan and Jonathan with potential linkages, and finally, I'll take whatever is left.

So, without further ado, here comes the first die roll...
