98 1/18/2019 9:50:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Thanks John,

We will see, POG, Hannibal, etc. I have a good feel for. This one seems a bit to one sided/random as it were.

Figured I'd give it a try, not sure how impressed I am at the moment.

Good luck going forward!!! :-)
97 1/17/2019 10:11:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Hey Jeff,

Enjoyed the game. Hope you don't give up on it yet. I think if you played another game or two you'd catch on pretty quickly. I haven't played that much either and certainly have a lot to learn but feel I have a pretty good handle on things now.

Take care and hope to see you around the battle field sometime again.

96 1/17/2019 10:36:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Hi John,

I think I might as well just surrender my sword here.

Obviously I don't have a clue on this game, looks like the Mississippi river has fallen, nothing in place to stop Pope and not that much in the way of troops defending Richmond.

Think this game is going back on the shelf.

Congratulations, sorry I couldn't make it more interesting for you!

Regards, Jeff

87 1/14/2019 11:42:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #71: 3 / General Scott, The Anaconda Plan
The Union player may either increase the Blockade Level by one or increase the Amphibious Assault modifier by two.

Message from Union:
Yes, I missed that part about leaving only 1 SP so the AOP would have advanced with 7 instead of 6. No matter as they ended right back in D.C. after getting crushed by the ANV! I show the AOP now with 5 SP and the ANV with 3 SP - is that right? By the way, if you keep getting all of the extra SP, I'm going to end up being in trouble - that's 6 SP in the last couple of cards!

On to my last card:

Activate Pope in Bowling Green - moves with 5 SP (leaves 1 in BG)

MP 1-3: To Clinton, TN - drop SP (n4)
MP 4: To Crossville, TN - drop 2 SP (n2)
MP 5-6: Backtracks to Clinton and then to Knoxville - drop 1 (n1)
MP 7: To Cleveland and ends there with 1 SP

82 1/13/2019 8:45:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #3: 1 / Forward to Richmond
Union may activate any Union army within 4 spaces of Richmond, VA. The army must enter Richmond or move as close to Richmond as possible, but may convert spaces to maintain an LOC. All SPs associated with the army must be moved (no dropping off SPs), except 1 SP may be left if the Army began its movement from a fort (if last SP, move completed). If played by the Confederate, he draws a card from the Union hand which is discarded, and the Union player follows the instructions of this card as his next card play.

Message from Union:
We missed it earlier but Fort Monroe blocks CSA entry into Norfolk - just choose another BR port to enter that one.

Activate the AOP - has to move towards Richmond via shortest path so I think I have to attack directly into Manassas:

Moves with 6 SP (leave 2 in D.C.)

MP 1: To Manassas

You have a retreat option but doubt you'll do that. I have a DRM of +2 and you have +2 as well. You could also use the Stonewall Brigade for a +3 but it will be lost if I manage to remove 2 or more SP.

Go ahead and roll - I cannot move any further even if I win the battle.
81 1/13/2019 2:08:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #106: 3 / British Clydeside Shipyards
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any open Blockade Runner Port, no more than one SP per port, but more than one SP per Blockade zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost.

Message from Confederate:
- Hummm.... getting the feeling this game is pretty much over already.
- If I'm reading the rules courrely Memphis is on the east bank of the river and Price can't even move in there.
- Well let's just do a fall back move I guess

The Union blockade level is increased by one. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
By the way, a leader can stay on a fort with no SP so Polk is still in Memphis...but not for long.

Activate Burnside again

Moves with the 2 Remaining SP and Halleck

MP 1: Back to Memphis to destroy the fort and send Polk to track - drops Halleck and 1 Sp
MP 2: Moves to and ends in Grand Junction with 1 SP
78 1/12/2019 12:26:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #7: 1 / Mud March
Interrupt enemy force currently moving to no more than one space of movement. (Converting a space counts as movement.) Applies to only one move during a Major or Minor campaign card, but not a special army-naval move.

Message from Union:
Well, that attack on Memphis went bad - well, I don't really like the idea of you having 4 cards left to my 2 but I want to keep your Arkansas units on the other side of the Mississippi.

I'll play a mud march on your last move so Price and his 2 SP end in Clarksville.

Next I have to play another card so that is coming up.
77 1/11/2019 3:37:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #60: 2 / USS Monitor
The Union player may remove one Confederate ironclad from the mapboard.

Message from Confederate:
Jeff> - 6 +2 gives me a roll of 8
- You have a 5 + 4 for a 9
- So I inflict 3 SP of damages, you inflict 2* SP of loses
- Okay looks like you still retreat even though I'm wiped out as the fort is there
- Took off the 3 SP losses
* Referee moves US Strength, US Strength, Halleck, Burnside moves Memphis, TN -> Humboldt, TN *
- Looks like Polk still goes to the turn track
* Referee moves Polk moves Memphis, TN -> offboard *

Back to you for CSA strat moves - you are quite limited due to SP stuck in forts or in the trans-Mississippi theater. Don't forget that the Mississippi River is Union controlled north or New Orleans with the loss of your fort in Columbus, KY! At present, you cannot cross the river at the normal places (like Memphis)
61 1/6/2019 12:40:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message Whoops - I forgot attrition:

60 1/6/2019 12:36:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message Hey Jeff - that ends the Summer of 1861 and we go into Fall with no reinforcements.

Here's what I see:

PC:

CSA: None

USA: Columbus, Bowling Green, Lebanon, Somerset, Frankfort, Lexington, and Frankfort Kentucky ( already had Louisville and Paducah); Also get Humboldt Tennessee

Kentucky becomes Union Controlled

SW:

USA: 108+ -> 118+ (gain 10 for KY)
CSA: Remains at 97-

Please double check that!
59 1/5/2019 3:43:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #78: 3 / Personal Advisor

Union player may make a naval move with up to three SPs plus one general.

Message from Union:
Well, since no reinforcements next turn (90 day enlistments), I'll try to spread units out to limit the attrition.

Activate Burnside in Harper's Ferry - moves alone (leave 2 SP in HF):

MP 1-2: To D.C. pick up 6 SP (leave 6 in DC (AOP)
MP 3: To Annapolis- drop 2 SP (n4)
MP 4: To Baltimore - drop 2 SP (n2)
MP 5: To Gettysburg - drop 1 Sp (n1)
MP 6: To Chambersburg - drop last SP (n0)
MP 7: End back in HF to rejoin the 2 SP there.

That way, I will only suffer attrition in the AOP
57 1/2/2019 3:53:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message Jeff> - Hi John,
- Yeah I am way to used to just exchanging logfiles and watching the whole thing play out on the map.
- Each module has it's own quirks as to what it feeds to the logfile.
- I've adjust it so that when you see CSA Strength point that's just 1 SP [it doesn't give a level with the counters in this module sadly enough].
- Leaves all 1 SP counters on the board but it works.
- The Generals do show so if you see this
* Referee moves Rosecrans, US Strength moves Bowling Green, KY -> Clarksville, TN *

- Moving it back

Looks like Johnston and his 2 remaining SP have gone back to Dover and now attacking into Paducah. Do you think I have only 1 SP there with Halleck. I believe I have 2 (see details in my last move) so if you attack, it would be a small battle with each of us having a DRM of +1. Let me know if that sounds right and if you agree and decide to fight, go ahead - Halleck will stay and fight.

45 12/19/2018 12:10:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message Hard to tell but I believe you are attacking Fremont and his 1 SP with Johnston who moved from Nashville to Dover and now into McKenzie. Did you pick up the SP in Dover for the attack? If so, you'll have 4 SP to my 1. Fremont is a 0 rating for defense so has no option to retreat so will stay to fight.
44 12/18/2018 5:15:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #14: 3 / Red River Campaign
May not be discarded by the Union. Union must use this card as an OC. If at the conclusion of movement, a Union SP is not on or adjacent to Grand Ecore, LA, then the Union loses 5 SW points. If a Union SP is in one of the objective spaces then a Union PC marker can immediately be placed to convert the space or spaces. Remove from deck if Union plays card.

31 12/12/2018 12:22:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message On the leader dice, I used 999 sided dice instead of 6-sided one to lessen the chance for duplicates. Some use 99 sided which mostly likely would avoid duplicates but I go for bigger ones when rolling for 7 leaders. the 999 or 99 is just an option when you submit the roll.

- Highest roll in Richmond, 2nd highest in Norfolk, 3rd in Columbus

Not seeing an option to set 3 dice per line so if they don't come out that way and are just one line the first three are the first roll, 2nd three are the 2nd etc.

24 12/11/2018 12:31:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message Jeff,

Just to make sure I got your Strat moves correct since some of it did not show up in the journal:

You moved 4 SP as follows:

Marion -> Manassas (n3)
Charleston -> Manassas (n4)
Cedar Key -> Manassas (n5)
Mobile -> Nashville (n3)

I was able to read from my email so pretty sure that is correct. You have quite a few SP tied up in the forts which will make it tough for any Union sea incursions.

1 11/29/2018 6:48:00 AM Spring 1861 Moderator Message EP revised ruling:
The Emancipation Proclamation event requires that the Union wins a medium or large battle. Two exceptions are overruns (5.72) and Army Amphibious Assault (6.15). The Design Note under 5.72 is in the context of overrun only, where any size force overrunning a fort would trigger EP.

* An amphibious assault on an ungarrisoned fort will not trigger EP except in the rare case where an Union Army wins the AA and 6 SP are involved.

** An ungarrisoned coastal fort has 0 SP. If you were to capture it in a Small battle, this would NOT trigger EP.
