AS Johnston is annoyed, and for some unfathomable reason the people of the South seem to care about that, so:
CSA SW from 105+ to 100- (-2, -3 FoW)

* We had a junior engineer join my previous work place about 2 years ago. His name, Braxton Bragg. Yes, he is a descendant of the General. Pretty fine engineer, but no interest in wargaming....

38 12/8/2018 10:33:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message Well it appears as tho your Strategic Movement is optimized to open with your own Major Campaign.

Tempted as I am to make a spoiling attack, I will NOT campaign to take the first move. Let's see what you've really got.

22 12/7/2018 11:01:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #84: 3 / Major Campaign
Conduct up to three moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Confederate:
Yeah, you had poor luck with your opening hand, but managed to keep me from isolating Washington, which I was really thinking hard about. The Wall of Lincolnus definitely put an end to that.

First Activation is: Beauregard in Manassas. Leave 1 SP, march w/ 2 SP
1. Fredericksburg, p2, n4.
2. Wilderness
3. Culpepper
4. Strasburg
5. Franklin, d1, n3
6. Lewisburg, d1, n2
7. Charleston WV, d1, n1
8. Parkersburg.

Second Activation:
AS Johnston and 1 SP from Nashville
1. Bowling Green KY (and that'll do)

I'm going to try to avoid outthinking myself, and will not use the remaining activation.
21 12/7/2018 10:10:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message I want to make sure you wake up to a game ready for you to play. That way you can sort out your Saturday to suit yourself.

First, a correction, tho I'm going to move in such a manner as it will make no difference. This occurred because I forgot I'd reinforced JJ with my first event card and never looked under the general counter, just played from memory.

In post #14, Johnston started out w/ 2 SP. It was my intention for Johnston to move his entire force, so he would have showed up at Ft Monroe w/ 6, lost 1, left one and finished in Fredericksburg (per Post 16) w/ 4. The order as written could also be interpreted that I'd left 1 SP in Strasburg, thus ending up w/ 3.

The first activation on the upcoming Campaign Card will be to activate Beauregard and send him to convert W. Virginia. In the course of that move, he will pass thru both Fredericksburg and Strasburg picking up SPs. So he'd be able to get the SP in question under either interpretation. I'm going to write the orders as if my intent had been carried out, but I wanted to clarify it before it causes any confusion.
20 12/7/2018 6:48:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message Sorry, but I have to go out for 3-4 hours. And I'll be playing a campaign card. It'll take me a while to make sure I don't leave anything on the table. So stand easy this evening, friend.

I'm embarrassed by my riches in cards, but lacked the SPs and leaders to take full advantage of them.
19 12/7/2018 6:30:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message Not bad; in fact entertaining. I've read the books, but haven't wanted to pay for the video versions.

18 12/7/2018 5:36:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message On top of the Wall, Commander of Night Watch General McDowell reads tearful message brought by the raven. Keep Morgan by-the-sea is burning in the enemy hands. News move fast. Behind the Wall, crowd flocks to churches in fear. He hears the dimmed singing of "From the fury of the Southman, O Lord, deliver us".

"Almost authentic" he mutters to himself.

Division move> 1 sp from Indianapolis to 1-Dayton 5-Grafton
17 12/7/2018 5:34:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #66: 1 / Wilson's Creek
Either player may move up to two infantry SPs from the same space as if they were led by a General. This move is a Corps move and may enter enemy controlled spaces because the SPs are moving as if they are led by a general.

Message from Confederate:
First Battle of Ft Monroe

First die is the CSA assault, +1 for JJ; +4 for odds

Second die is the USA defense, +2 for the fort itself, and you're lucky Butler isn't a minus.
14 12/7/2018 1:01:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #75: 2 / Western Concentration Block
Confederate player can either remove or demote an army commander in any state except Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Florida for no political cost. OR Confederate Player may move 5 SPs using Strategic Movement (rail connections only) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. If a general casualty occurs in a battle caused by this card, the Commanding General is eligible, this is an exception to the rules. See 4.5 Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
With all the Cotton Revenues we're expecting, paying for it should be no problem. Much like the animals in a zoo, we look at your wall and think it's there to keep you out!

Playing the event to concentrate forces under J.Johnston at Strasburg:
1 SP from Memphis (n.1 w/ Polk)
1 SP from Columbus KY (n.1)
1 SP from Dover (n.1)
1 SP from Mobile AL

Now with 5 SP, J Johnston moves 4 MP to Williamsburg and then attacks Fort Monroe VA.

I don't see any potential intercepts nor avoids, so I'm going to resolve this in hopes that I can continue moving. If you can cancel it, c'est la guerre.
13 12/7/2018 4:14:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #113: 2 / Washington Defenses
The Union player may place 3 forts in friendly controlled spaces, unoccupied by Confederate SPs, on or within two spaces of the Union Capital (any location) OR 2 forts in any friendly controlled spaces unoccupied by Confederate SPs. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:

12 12/6/2018 3:07:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #30: 3 / Glory Hallelujah
Union immediately receives three SPs for raising Negro troops. The SPs can be placed in any Union controlled space (even one without a LOC) that doesnít contain a Confederate SP or fort.

7 12/6/2018 3:53:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #76: 2 / Great Sioux Uprising
Remove one Union commanding general at no SW penalty. Penalties for promoting a general with a lower political value still apply. OR remove ANY Union non-commanding general (even second in commands) from the game. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
OP que complete.

With much political pressure applied, General McDowell beats his inertia and Army of Potomac responds to rebel provocations in the Valley.

6 12/5/2018 6:51:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #22: 3 / Josiah Gorgas, Chief of Ordnance
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any friendly controlled space with a LOC,free of Union SPs and forts. No more than one SP per Confederate controlled state. No SPs may be placed in Pro-Union spaces.

Message from Confederate:
Normally, I'll be able to move earlier in my day, and should have a move waiting for you in the evening. I'm assuming, in saying this, that you're operating in one of the time zones east of Greenwich.

It appears that Major Gorgas used his time before resigning to "Go South" to good effect and the federal magazines and arsenals in the South were full of martial stores ready to supply those patriots rushing to the colors:

1 SP to Winchester VA (n.2)
1 SP to Memphis TN (n.2)
1 SP to Fort PJ LA (n.1)
5 12/5/2018 3:41:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #19: 1 / Belmont
Either player may move up to two infantry SPs from the same space as if led by a General. This move is a Corps move and may enter enemy controlled spaces because the SPs are moving as if they are led by a general.

Message from Union:

PS: I assume you won't play a campaign to seize the initiative. Let me know if I am wrong. :)

3 12/5/2018 3:34:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message WoW Don!

We have never met but I have the feeling that I am playing against and old friend with whom I have a lot in common. Strange but true!

I usually keep my vassal of my own expecting the other is also taking care of its own. We can do as you see fit.

Attacker always roll first and highest DRM (unless otherwise indicated.)

It's good to be playing with someone who is interested more interested in analysing than winning (which I guess applies to both of us.).

Let's create a masterpiece!
2 12/4/2018 6:19:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Draw Strategy cards 4 cards drawn.

1 12/4/2018 6:18:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message Hey! I'm already a winner!

I couldn't be more thrilled to have you as an opponent. I'm going to have a blast, regardless of the game outcome. I'm going to do my best to give you an exciting game as well, Mustafa.

I'll be keeping track of the game on VASSAL. If you like we can exchange files, but I'm happy with just sending a position file at the end of each turn, or immediately after the Reinforcement Phase. I'm just as happy posting an audit in text on ACTS. Let me know what you prefer.

If I ever fail to designate what die roll goes with which force, my default is Attacker First. Again, I'm happy to do it differently if you wish.

I'm in the Central Time Zone of the US; I don't anticipate having any trouble keeping up an excellent pace of play.

Good luck! Let's create a classic!
