139 2/20/2019 1:24:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #117: 3 / Clandestine Blockade Runner Port
If the state of Florida and the St. Marks, Florida space is Confederate controlled, St. Marks is treated as a blockade runner port for the remainder of the game. Place (no LOC required) 2SPs and a fort (optional if available) in the St. Marks space. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
USA will AA Ft. Gadson with 3 SP from DC...I calculate it as follows:
USA has a +1 AA modifier and the CSA has a +2 fort, resulting in a net +1 for the CSA, then the US has a 3-1 advantage in troops, making the USA a net +2.
The small battle at Ft. Gadson will be:
1. USA +2
2. CSA +1

Any cards or interrupt? If not, I will roll it.

128 2/14/2019 5:58:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Jeff:
OK on Lee, but because you have 3 Cav Gens to place, they have to be placed randomly...like this:
Forrest
Morgan
Wheeler

Highest goes to LAntin
Lowest 2 go to AoNV

And then roll dice and figure out who goes where.
When you have more than 1 in a category, whether Cav or INF, this is usually how they are placed...there may be other methods, but this is the one I have seen most often.
OK?

119 2/12/2019 3:49:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message - Hi Paul,
- Okay adjusting Manassas
- Humm.. interesting I see what you mean about 10.2... might drop James a quick note though.
- I play mostly ASL so I tend to dig a bit far into rules at times. :-)
- I'll CC you on this one.

118 2/11/2019 7:31:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message I can solve the AoP question...when I redid the move AoP v JJ in the Valey, I picked up the 1 SP in Manassas and took it back to Fredrick, making AoP 1 SP larger and Manassas empty. Manassas should be 2 SP now.
In regard to the reinforcements into the Armies, I relied upon 10.21, which allows for any SP to be moved into an Army provided the Army has an LOC to that SP, and it does not have to be a rail connection. I think I am OK under that Rule, but it is fine with me if you want to ask James.
Thx!
117 2/11/2019 5:07:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message - Humm... good except for I showa SP in Manassas already so thinking you have 3 SP there now?
- Also had the AOP at 3, but looking at the log you listed it as 4 and I either messed up or missed that and didn't catch it then so it stands.
* Referee moves AoP SP moves Union Army Strengths Track - 6 -> Union Army Strengths Track - 7 *
- Okay one last question if I may.
- The SP's that transfered to the AOC.
- ..... humm... actually two questions there.
- 10.23
- It says they have to move to ports and I'm not sure Fort Monroe which controls the Norfolk Port qualifes as a port and there isn't one in Williamsburg?
- I may have actually missed that when the AOC came in there, although I haven't dug into how the USA can transfer SP's to a costal fort in normal play.
- Second part it says you can move SP's that are in Union ports, does this mean they have to start in a port as well?
- Re-reading rules is always fun and raise more questions it seems. :-)

115 2/10/2019 4:52:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Jeff:
You are right on Pensacola. I assumed (never done it before, actually, when Florida changed sides, all spaces did as well, but I found examples where there were lone holdouts. So, other than the spaces Burnsides occupied, Florida is still a little rebellious, although no longer supplying men and materiel to the CSA cause.

114 2/10/2019 3:18:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Jeff> - Hi Paul,
- No worries.
- I am sure that long before 3/30 hits the CSA will have fallen. :-)
- Just can't get a good feel for this game, POG yes, Hannibal yes, ASL etc. yes... this one not so much.
- Okya good on Fernandina being open, missed the LOC.
- Not clear on Pensacola and the Torpedo however.
- Last line of 6.7 is Confederate ironclads etc...
- Figure you meant the line above, however as far as I can tell it's only border states that you get free PC markers in every space in the state when it flips?
- So what I am looking at is Pensacola without a control marker and a Torpedoe and Fort Pickens with a USA control marker.
- Let me know what I'm missing there.
- Okay reinforcements

113 2/10/2019 8:40:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message Jeff, are you ready for reinforcements? We have to keep moving or James will pull the plug on us!

112 2/8/2019 10:17:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Hey! The problem is, Fernandina is not an "Open" blockade port...see Rule 10.52...because it cannot trace a Line Of Communication to another resource space or open blockade port...I have troops in Baldwin, Live Oak and Monticello, which effectively isolate all the ports in Florida, making the State eligible for change of control.
In regard to the torpedo, once Pensacola changes control, which happens when the State changes control, the torpedo is destroyed. See Rule 6.7, next to last line.
OK, ready for the CSA Reinforcements?
111 2/8/2019 5:29:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Hummm.... two quick thoughts.

Looking at Florida doesn't Fernandina fall as it's open blockade runner port? First line of 12.11?

For the torpedo, control of the fort gives you a PC marker in the port itself? I know it works the other way under 6.84, but not seeing the reverse?

110 2/7/2019 9:10:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message One more minor detail...the torpedoes in Pensacola are removed because Pensacola is now USA...
109 2/7/2019 6:07:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Set Deck Reshuffle Deck will be reshuffled before next deal
108 2/7/2019 6:06:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message OK, here is my summary:
First, I noticed in going through the Journal, that there were two errors on your previous reinforcements, not critical and we are not going to change them, but here they are:
1. In your previous reinforcements (Post 25), you took a blockade runner into Norfolk (it is there still, with Bragg) but Norfolk is a closed port (Ft. Monroe) so no more blockaders can land there. ;-)
2. In (post 25) your State reinforcements, you took 2 SP's into Kentucky...1 in Frankfort and 1 in Columbus. In the next round, you can only place 1 SP per state.

Now, for the USA Attrition:
1. AoC 6->5
2. AoP 5->4
3. Cairo 3->2
4. DC 4->3
USA gets new PC's in Baldwin, Live Oak, and Monticello FL, giving the USA control of Florida (those 4 plus Ft. Pickens, makes 5).
USA SW changes: 108+ -5 (War Weariness) -3 (FOW) = 100-
CSA SW changes: 102- -5 (loss of Florida) +10 (Missouri) +2 FOW) = 109+

Blockade is currently 0
AA is currently +1
You played the FI card as an OPS card, meaning we have to reshuffle the discards...I will reshuffle the deck after I post this.

That brings us up to Reinforcements:
US gains 8 SP in DC, n11
US gains 6 in Cincinatti, n8
US gains 4 in Cairo, n6

Over to you fpr reinforcements, but now you get only 8 State reinforcements (loss of Florida) plus 1 each for KY and MO.
Back to you!

Union immediately receives five SPs for raising freemen Negro troops. The SPs can be placed in any single Union controlled space with a LOC in NJ, DE, PA or the space that contains the Union capital that does not contain Confederate SPs or forts. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
I'll go ahead and play a card, because I think the SW is sorted out now...play the event and add 5 SP to DC...Burnside is now n7 in DC...over to you.
88 1/23/2019 9:49:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message I had the post # incorrect...it was Post 50, not Post 37...the card reduced your SW by 3...here is corrected version...
Here is what I found for SW:
CSA SW started at 100+; then in Post 21 increased by +10 for Kentucky (n110+); then in Post 50 decreased by 3 for the card and 2 more for FOW (n105-) then decreased by 1 for losing Fort P-J (n104-).

Agree?
87 1/23/2019 4:44:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message We match on all but the CSA SW - you listed 37 as a drop in SW for the CSA but that's when you picked up the bump for McClellan? I have 106 vs your 104, what did I miss?
86 1/21/2019 9:12:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message I went back through all of the Posts, and after all of the movement and attrition and reinforcements, AoP should be 4SP in Fredrick...Agree?

USA SW started at 100-; then in post 37 increased by +7 (McClellan +5, FOW +2) (n107+); then increased by +1 for Fort P-J (n108+).

Do I have it right? I will look up AoP next...

I think that is all I need to do...over to you for Strat Movement...

77 1/19/2019 2:30:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Also, US gets a PC in Fort P-J, causing the CSA SW to drop to 95- (-2 for the Fort, -3 more for FOW), and the Mississippi is now impassable for the CSA, except at Columbus KY...
US SW increases to 104+ (+2 for the Fort, and +2 for FOW)
So, final SW for the turn:
USA 104+
CSA 95-

Agree, so far?
76 1/19/2019 2:08:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message So, I lost 4 SP total. Seems correct. Moving on to Fall Turn? If so, no Reinforcements, just SR and Leaders...

73 1/17/2019 10:56:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message I can't intercept into Richmond, because you have the fort there, so Beau steals home and lands in Richmond, safely. OK
72 1/17/2019 10:04:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #44: 2 / Western Virginia
Place three Union PC markers in any West Virginia space free of Confederate SPs. If the space contains a Confederate PC marker, it is flipped. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
Jeff> - 4 in AOP
- Okay if I am correct moving a SP into Philip/Jackson would trigger a land battle with you getting the +2 for the fort.... which seems really odd.
- We will go with this.

67 1/14/2019 9:31:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message An answer to the questions...7.81...no Force can inflict losses in excess of twice its strength regardless of the CRT result.
Second question...5.54...I(middle of the paragraph) If the Cavalry Brigade SP is eliminated in battle, the constituent Cavalry General is put on the Game Record Track to return in three Game Turns...

These are kind of obscure, but they are the ones that apply...
66 1/14/2019 9:24:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Joe Johnston +1 SP is in Strasburg...ok...what is his reaction to my move? Are we fighting or is he running away?

Message from Union:
Stuart?
60 1/13/2019 3:09:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message I just noticed it was Stuart, not one of the other Cav leaders in Richmond, and in this case, the Battle ends in a 3*-3 result...meaning the CSA is eliminated, but the US Army is pushed back to Williamsburg.
McClellan's Army is n8 in Williamsburg (Stuart can only inflict up to 2 SP damage to Mac's Army), and Richmond is empty.
Stuart has to go to the track for 3 turns, unless he is killed (He dies if I roll a "1" in the next roll)...and then I have to do move #2...

So, just to be clear:
New Orleans now has 3 SP in it
Hanover now has Beau +5 SP

How many SP are in Richmond and Manassas, and which leaders, if I may ask?

Message from Union:
Amphib Assault on Fort P-J...small battle
1. USA: +5 (Pope +1, ratio +2, Porter card +2)
2. CSA will be +2 (fort)

46 1/3/2019 11:22:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #58: 2 / Admiral Porter
Union may make a naval move with up to three SPs plus one general. If an amphibious assault occurs, you receive an additional +2 DRM. Add +2DRM to any Running the Guns die roll.

Message from Union:
Play the event...send Pope +3 SP from DC to AA Ft. Philips-Jackson...
Unless you have a card, the odds will be:
1. USA: +5 (Pope +1, ratio +2, Porter card +2)
2. CSA will be +2 (fort)
Let me know if you have a reaction, otherwise I will roll it...
45 1/1/2019 3:40:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message Jeff> - Hi Paul,
- Finally got a moment of quite.... as in the next 10 minutes most likely. :-)
- It's 5 SP that moved to Hanover.
- So used to using the exchange of logfiles I forgot this module doesn't list strength points by level.
- Adjusted the board so that it's all 1 SP units now, so when you see CSA Strength it's 1 SP that is moving.
- Hope you had a great Christmas and New Years.
- Back to normal on Monday when the 4 set's of families have gone back to points from Seattle to NYC.
- Regards, Jeff

41 12/20/2018 11:02:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #85: 3 / Minor Campaign
Conduct up to two moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Union:
OK, I thought about it...good thing I had a spare Campaign card...use this to transport Army of the Cumberland (n9) from DC (n5) to Ft. Monroe VA, but leaving General Pope and General Burnside in DC with the 5 SP left behind. Maclellan's AoC absorbs the 1 USA SP in Ft. Monroe...n(10) and adds General Butler to the staff...back to you...
