51 12/9/2018 9:33:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Yes, thatís correct Ken. Iím trying to cause some attrition. If i can get a 5 or 6 it would cost you 2 steps. There is a small risk to Halleck, but Iím hoping I can get him onto the Turn track.
50 12/9/2018 8:47:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message To clarify: Halleck and only 1 SP are attacking Manassas from Frederick?

I'd get a +4 drm for force ratio, and you'd get a +1 for Halleck. Is that correct?
49 12/9/2018 11:34:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message ...Continuing
Medium Union victory, Emancipation eligible.
Drop 1 SP in Winchester (n1)
6. Harpers Ferry, drop 3 SP and Pope (n3 and Pope), Halleck continues alone.
7. Frederick, pick up 1 SP (n4 and Buell)
8. Attack Manassas with Halleck and 1 SP.

Over to you to resolve and play next card (which I fervently hope is Emancipation!).
48 12/9/2018 12:36:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message Union: 1 + 5 = 6 = 2
CSA: 2 + 2 = 4 = 1

Union wins. CSA SP elim; Johnston to game turn track.
Union Corps to 4 SP.

1 to Richmond (n3) from Mobile AL (n0).
39 12/8/2018 4:03:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message Yes, Pensacola is closed. Columbus GA instead (n2).
Yes, Morehead City (n1) instead of New Bern. That's what I originally wrote before changing it at the last minute.
You can tell I haven't played the CSA very often.

Re Generals: You wrote "Top 3." I presume you meant "the 3 highest rolls" (i.e., rolls sorted in Descending order). If you sort in Ascending order, the results are quite different.
38 12/8/2018 3:11:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Draw Strategy cards 5 cards drawn.

7 Generals in Alpha order
Top 3 to AOP, then Frederick, Harpers Ferry, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati.
35 12/8/2018 3:00:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Let me know on those 2.
Union Strategic Moves
2 SP Coshocton (n0) to Pittsburgh (n4)
1 SP Springfield (n0) to Pittsburgh (n5)
2 SP Cairo (n3) to Frederick (n4)

1 SP D.C. (n7) to Pittsburgh (n6)
1 SP D.C. (n6) to Harpers Ferry (n4)
1 SP Cincinnati (n6) to Frederick (n5)

34 12/8/2018 2:46:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message You wrote New Bern, but I think you meant Morehead City, as that is the actual Runner port
33 12/8/2018 2:44:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Also, Pensacola is closed. You can go with Mobile or Columbus
32 12/8/2018 10:29:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message You're correct. Just delete the SP in Franklin. Yet another anomaly in the rules where a Border State is not a Border State.
31 12/8/2018 10:19:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Message Looks good Ken, but believe there is no SP for W. Virginia. Only Kentucky and Missouri give that benefit.

29 12/7/2018 4:28:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Ah, it was that reinforcement card.....
Iíll be home soon and will send the .vsav
28 12/7/2018 3:44:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message If you don't mind, I'd like a Vassal map to look at before placing my reinforcements and generals. This and the Strat Move are the two times where I'm most likely to make a placement mistake and get out of sync. I'll forward my most recent file.
27 12/7/2018 3:41:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message Robert, if you look at the text of my last card, I had no army or general in any of the four eligible states. So I couldn't take the SPs even if I'd wanted. I suppose I could have move a general somewhere eligible, but I'll live with the move.
26 12/7/2018 2:55:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Ken, iíll send the .vsav after Generals are placed to confirm position.

All spaces in W. Virginia to CSA, and Paducah/Bowling Green.
Forts St. P./Jackson to CSA

Fort Union +1, +2 to 103+
CSA -1, -3 to 96-
State
CSA +5, +2 to 103+
Attrition
AOP -1 to 2
Manassas -1 to 2
21 12/7/2018 2:22:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message That was a killer hand dude.
Gutsy move not taking the reinforcements.
Do you want me to do the end if turn stuff?
20 12/7/2018 1:36:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #47: 3 / CSA Recognizes KY, MO, MD and DE
Confederate places a total of two SPs in any single space in KY, MO, MD or DE that contains a general or army in these states. The space can be controlled by either side or neutral and does not require a LOC. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
PC Markers in:
Parkersburg WV
Paducah KY
Bowling Green KY

That's right: all four of my cards were 3-Ops. It might be ages before I see another one, though.
19 12/7/2018 1:33:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message Well, you found a use for Fremont. Good for you. You had to "waste" a good 3-Ops card, though. A common Union dilemma for him.
18 12/7/2018 12:03:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #90: 3 / Habeas Corpus
Reduce Union SW by 2. Remove from deck if event is played.

Activate Fremont and 2 SP in St. Louis
1-4 Indianapolis Pick up 1 SP (n0)
5-6 Columbus Pick up 1 SP (n0)
7 Coshocton drop 2 SP (n2)
8 Pittsburgh Fremont and 2 SP

Back to you to finish the turn...
17 12/7/2018 11:20:00 AM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #30: 3 / Glory Hallelujah
Union immediately receives three SPs for raising Negro troops. The SPs can be placed in any Union controlled space (even one without a LOC) that doesnít contain a Confederate SP or fort.

Message from Confederate:
PC Markers in W. Virginia:
Franklin
Grafton
Wheeling

Another card I'm glad you didn't get.
16 12/6/2018 3:45:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #41: 2 / Gov. Isham Harris, Tennessee Confederate
Confederate immediately places two SPs in any friendly controlled space in Tennessee with a LOC (both SPs are placed in the same space). SPs may not be placed in Pro-Union spaces or one occupied by Union SPs or a fort.

Message from Union:
Fort Frederick

Yup, 5 SP this early is a huge card!
15 12/6/2018 3:15:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #40: 3 / Emergency Call for Volunteers
Union receives five SPs, no more than two SPs in any space. Placement spaces must be friendly controlled, have a LOC and be free of Confederate SPs or forts.

Message from Confederate:
Place fort in New Orleans. (Glad you didn't get this card.)
14 12/6/2018 2:24:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #62: 2 / Financial Crisis
Union SW is reduced by two.

Message from Union:
Division Rail move 2 SP from Pittsburgh, PA. to Baltimore, MD dropping 1 SP (n1) and ending in Frederick, MD (n2).

Ken, by way of explanation of my shorthand, any SP references in parenthesis (nx) is the number of SP's after all movement in that area is completed, and always includes Cavalry (if any).
13 12/6/2018 12:43:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message You are correct. I was pretty sure I was safe with New Orleans (had to consult the rules) because fort control doesn't change until a control flag is placed even if enemy occupied. I completely missed Norfolk being controlled by Fort Monroe.

Place the last 1 SP in Columbus GA (Fort Gadson) instead. Revised map on the way.
12 12/6/2018 12:08:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message Ken,
I believe you can put an SP in New Orleans, as I don't control the associated fort yet, but Norfolk is definitely closed. Where do you want to place the 3rd SP?
11 12/6/2018 12:04:00 AM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #106: 3 / British Clydeside Shipyards
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any open Blockade Runner Port, no more than one SP per port, but more than one SP per Blockade zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost.

Message from Confederate:
1 SP each in:
Sabine City
New Orleans
Norfolk
10 12/5/2018 11:56:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message OK with exchanging file only at the end of the first two seasons (unless there's a complex move involved). I'll probably send you a file at the end of each of my moves anyway. You can use it or ignore it.
9 12/5/2018 9:37:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #95: 2 / Strategy Board
Union player may make a naval move with up to three SPs plus one general.

Message from Union:
2 SP from D.C. (AOP now 3 SP) land at Fort St. Phillip/Jackson.
1 SP survives.
Over to you for first card.
Ken, recommend we exchange file at end of turn for first couple of seasons as not much happening at start.
8 12/5/2018 6:06:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message You may go first.
7 12/5/2018 6:05:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Draw Strategy cards 4 cards drawn.

6 12/5/2018 6:05:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message Ken, Iíll draw my cards. After you draw let me know if you will be campaigning.
Good luck!
5 12/5/2018 6:04:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Draw Strategy cards 4 cards drawn.

4 12/5/2018 6:04:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message With James' approval beginning the game.
3 12/5/2018 1:01:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message Hey Ken,
Iíll ask James to be sure we can start. Happy to exchange VASSAL files. I seem to remember getting awfully good cards in our last match. That can even make me look like I know what Iím doing!
2 12/5/2018 12:36:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message Hi Robert,

Good to hear from you. I seem to remember getting waxed pretty good by you in our last match. Maybe I can give you a better contest this time.

Do we wait for a go-ahead from James or start right away?

Also, are you willing to exchange Vassal files? I find it much easier to keep track of the game status with the ACTS log backed up by Vassal.
1 12/5/2018 12:18:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message Hi Ken!
Looks like itís you and me again!
As soon as we get the OK I think we can start.
Best of luck to you, and I hope we gave a good game!
