189 12/21/2018 12:00:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Play Strategy card as Operations #40: 3 / Operation Dexterity: New Britain Invasion
Activate: Any HQ. Logistic Value: 5 if US SW HQ, for all others: 3

OC: 3 EC: 5

Message from Allies:
This card would follow as an OPs card to have I corps sieze Vogelkop. There is little you could do to prevent this, as you have no more ASPs. This would reduce Japan to 10 resource spaces and no more than a 5 card (possibly 4 cards with successful SW roll) to start 1943.

As a final note, I will point out a significant flaw in your defensive position. South HQ has no ground unit defending it. If I had a surprise attack event I would certainly have set up to use it at this point to displace that HQ.

I will report our results to the GM. If you want to play again, just for the experience and fun of it, I would be happy for the rematch. Either side.
188 12/21/2018 11:54:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Play Strategy card as Event #20: 1 / Halsey Replaces Ghormley: Offensive Spirit
Activation: Halsey South HQ only. Logistic Value: 4 Conditions: If the Ghormley South HQ is in play, remove it and place Halsey HQ in its location. If it is not yet in play, it is removed from the game and the Halsey South HQ is brought into play and placed in any friendly in supply port. Remove from play if used as an event.

Message from Allies:
Hello Benoit;

Thank you, I agree with your assessment. It is simply a matter of waiting for the allied strength to build up enough to carry the battle to the Japanese homeland.

The allies would play both of their cards to end the turn. This one would replace Ghormly with "Bull" Halsey and the USN would hit Singapore with both BB and CV divisions for another 55 strength attack. If detected you could add a couple more Japanese units to the fire.

>> Undoubtedly the worst game I ever played as JP.

I have no idea if that is true, but in this game it is very difficult to make lemonade when dealt a hand of lemons. The dice have been cruel to you as well. It is probably one of the most challenging situations you have had to deal with as Japan, that is for sure.

The Japanese permanently lose one Amphibious Shipping Point unless it is their last ASP. Bonus: Prior to battle, if an active Japanese CA, CL or APD naval unit moved within the extended range of a U.S. non-LRB air unit it loses one step. If more than one naval unit qualifies, Japanese player's choice. Draw one Strategy Card. Remove from play if use as an event.

4. CV Wasp supports potential battle A

You may attempt a "Special Reaction" die roll, and if successful an Intel die roll to see if South HQ may activate units to react.

I do not believe either us currently has an FO card.

Hump Operations into China: Flip the Burma Road Status marker from its No Hump to Hump side for the remainder of the game. Bonus: The AVG air unit (which normally cannot receive replacements) or a 14th AF air unit (either one) immediately receives a replacement step if it is in Northern India, Burma, or the Air units in China box. This replacement can be used to bring a 14th AF air unit (but not the AVG) back from elimination in any friendly in supply Northern India or Burma airfield. Remove from play if used as an event.

102 12/16/2018 8:49:00 AM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Message About the South Pacific. Unless JP has very strong hands on GT2 and 3 that can be used to threaten LOC with Australia, I no longer believe that taking the Solomons is a good thing. Doing this gives a lot of PoW targets for GT4 without really changing anything for the JP prospects of winning.

I tried at my last game to go after the US fleet, even rebasing South Seas to the Marshalls and it almost succeeded. I still won but because AP lacked agressiveness and fumbled Japan invasion (he did roll 9 on his first Strategic Bombing roll...)

In ths present game, well, situation is totally novel for me I never had 2 initial game turns with only 1 Mil Event card (and a weak one!). PW victory is certainly off the table so it's not about perimeter defense, it's about attrition. A couple of big naval battles could change the game, but I don't have high hopes of winning. I'll try my best.
101 12/15/2018 10:44:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Play Strategy card as Event #71: 3 / High Altitude Interceptors
2 Air Replacements: The Japanese receive 2 air replacement steps. These steps may be used immediately or recorded as replacement steps for future use. Bonus: Add +1 to Strategic bombing die rolls until the Allies control a supply eligible airbase within 5 hexes of Tokyo. Place the High Altitude Interceptors marker on the game turn track as a reminder. Remove from play if used as an event.

Increase US Political Will by one. The play of this event is the pre-condition for Japanese card number 6: Doolittle Raid Reprisal. Place the Doolittle Raid marker on the game turn track as a reminder. Remove from play if use as an event.

Message from Allies:
I find that the biggest impact of replacing Combined Fleet HQ with Osaka is that 1 hex loss of range. It means that Combined Fleet may no longer react to an attack on Truk. It does make the South Pacific must more difficult to defend.

The Japanese 'bug-out' means the allies must shift troops to the Southeast Asia front as well.

Ops on South Seas for 2+2=4 no battle.
98 12/15/2018 7:22:00 AM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Message PBM looks good to me.

I am not used to play with ACTS anymore, most of my games are straight on VASSAL where cards are laid down on map and event text shows. So I missed the Marianas Turkey Shoot... in 1942.

I thought right after GT2 that winning via PW to zero was off the table considering the awful hand I got.

Now halfway through GT3, you should surmise by now that I don't have many Mil Events again, that means a game that will be decided on attrition alone.

With undelayed GT3 Reinforcements and efficiency reduction of Combined Fleet, serious Japanese expansion (including Aleutians) is now impossible.

Dice may help me and so can the subs and kamikaze but I blew a few on Ops already, plus a Weather card.

You still have your Ambush cards in deck which raises the possibility that aggressive action with Kido Butai ends up in disaster.

We'll see what next hand looks like but if it's weak and does not allow serious progress in Burma and DEI's conquest, this will quickly become a kind of solo game for you :-)

I doubt you will make a lot of mistakes, you seem to be too strong of a player for that!
97 12/14/2018 10:10:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message The allies are nibbling at the edges of the Japanese Empire, keeping their distance from 'Kido Butai'. Eventually the IJN is going to send in the heavy units to teach the U.S. Navy a lesson they won't soon forget.

Picking at the Eastern edge of your Empire to distract you from the more important task of capturing resource hexes.
96 12/14/2018 9:46:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message Allied PBM is up. You should review it.

In battle B my 37/4 = 10 hits as any fraction rounds up. I moved the hit to the 23AF.

In battle C your CVL added only 1 factor due to the event text, so JP = 13. This made no change to the result.

After all combat the event text allows the allies to eliminate one step from any Japanese air unit in the battle. I chose the reduced 23AF.
