64 12/17/2018 9:54:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Message Well, the luck made up for Manila.

Pass #2, of course.
63 12/17/2018 9:05:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Message I got a bit lucky there, but probably would have been able to make up for any shortfall.

Japanese PBM
CVL Ryuho back to Miri
21st AirFlot to Medan
22nd AirFlot to Palembang
23rd AirFlot stays in Bangkok. (Which for some reason I persistently call Rangoon!)

Over to the Allies.
62 12/17/2018 4:54:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Message close to surviving, but not quite. 26 hits kills the Flying Tigers.

To you for PBM.

Activation: South or South Seas HQs only. Logistic Value: 5 Paratroopers: Prior to movement place a Japanese control marker in a hex that is within extended range of an active Japanese air unit if (1) the hex is either unoccupied or is occupied solely by a Dutch regiment; and (2) the hex is not within an unneutralized Allied air ZOI. Eliminate the Dutch regiment.

OC: 5 EC: 7

Message from Japanese:
Sorry this took a while, but much family life going on, plus (not to jinx myself) things are pretty much on track, so there are many branches and sequels to consider.

Play as the event on HQ South for 6 JOINT activations:

a) Korea Army from Tjilatjap to Central Java (2119)

Message from Japanese:
I'm rusty too.

Here's the attempt at a CH. If you hit, we'll use the previously rolled numbers and readjudicate the ground battle.
52 12/15/2018 6:40:00 AM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Message Don - the Dutch (AF) should have had a shot at a critical hit attempt on KOR on the first die roll of the first battle at Tjalitjap, no?
51 12/14/2018 8:08:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Message BATTLE B RESULTS:

The Japanese once again apply 36 hits, to flip and then eliminate 3 IND Corps
However, the Indian Army uses the dense terrain well to apply 12 hits and flip the Jpn 38th Army.

BATTLES C (Tarakan) and D (Balikpapan)
are automatic. With the DRM, the attackers are guaranteed a minimum of 9 hits, sufficient to eliminate the Dutch defenders, whereas the maximum Dutch hits are 2, obviously insufficient.

No Japan PBM.
Pls make the (Dutch AF) EAM before playing your next card.

Message from Japanese:
BATTLE A RESULTS: 36 hits on the Dutch Division, which can only absorb 24 hits, so it is flipped/eliminated. Korea Army occupies Tjilatjap. Mark the (Dutch AF) for EAM.

BATTLE B (Kuantan Malaya)
The first die is the Jpn Attack with 18 factors and a +4 DRM
The second die is the Allied Defense with 9 factors and no DRM

Message from Japanese:
Battle A (Tjilatjap)

The die roll is the Japanese attack w/ 18 factors and the Card's +4 DRM

The Dutch counter roll would max at 12 hits, insufficient to harm the Korea Army, so no die roll.

48 12/14/2018 3:16:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Message No card play. Pls finish out.
47 12/13/2018 10:28:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Play Strategy card as Event #3: 2 / Col. Tsuji, Unit 82: Jungle Warfare
Activate: Any HQ Logistic Value: 3 Intelligence: Surprise Attack Conditions: Only Japanese ground units may be activated. Bonus: In any ground combat that occurs in a Malaya, Jungle or Mixed terrain hex for the duration of this operation, the final die roll modifier for the Japanese in any ground battles is +4.

OC: 4 EC: 0

Message from Japanese:
Well, you know I have this card, so it's clear that I won't get Strategic Surprise, but at least it comes with it's own built in tactical surprise.

Play as the Event on HQ South for 4 Ground Unit Activations:
a) Korea Army from Batavia to Tjilatjap (Battle A)
b) 38th Army from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan (Battle B)
c) (17th Army) from 2516 to Tarakan (Battle C)
d) (19th Army) from 2516 to Balikpapan (Battle D)

Still going to have to give you a chance to play a reaction card, tho I suspect you would have done so already if you had one, just to get the card draw...

41 12/12/2018 9:50:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Play Strategy card as Operations #35: 3 / Operation KE: Guadalcanal Evacuation
Choose a Japanese occupied coastal hex. Up to 3 Japanese ground units in the chose hex and all adjacent hexes (that do not have to be coastal hexes) may conduct strategic naval movement (with no amphibious shipping points required) from these hexes to any single friendly port hex. No battles may be initiated. The move is unaffected by Allied air ZOI, however all other conditions for a strategic naval move apply.

33 12/11/2018 11:01:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Message Commentary...

Made a blunder at Manila because I've got another EOTS game going, and it's at the stage where the US gets the 1944 +3DRM, so for some reason in my head I was thinking only of getting to 50% levels for "sure things". I wasn't thinking of the worse case of rolling my usual 25% results. With 5th AirDiv just sitting there, it wasn't really a problem to do it.

I didn't anticipate Black Day popping out, but that doesn't bother me. I'm wondering if an air unit without combat power at extended range such as the Marine Air or (obviously) FEAF or AVG can be used to implement the card. I'm going to query the GM, but only for future knowledge. We're going play that they can, because as you know, I'm a big Rules As Written guy, and the card does not exempt such. I'm not happy about losing some CAs, but the permanent loss, this early of the ASP, that stings a bit. Nice play on a lucky card draw.

I'm not worried about the pace, at least not until it gets ridiculous. Then it will only be because, I'd hate to see you forfeit on delays. I will point out, that if the game takes too long, you won't have time to enjoy the big Allied comeback. (wink)
32 12/11/2018 8:27:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Message Let me know on all that, Don. (FEAF) of course returns to Manila, where Dugout Dug will be in supply. I'll draw a card after we're all done with everything here; probably tomorrow.

Sorry pace will disappoint you. If I don't keep up with your expectations, Don, I'll just resign. For fun - I really don't like competitive play.
31 12/11/2018 8:26:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Message Alas, Houston (CA Aisa) is sunk.

18 12/11/2018 5:33:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Play Strategy card as Event #24: 2 / Skip Bombing Attack: Battle of the Bismark Sea
The Japanese permanently lose one Amphibious Shipping Point unless it is their last ASP. Bonus: Prior to battle, if an active Japanese CA, CL or APD naval unit moved within the extended range of a U.S. non-LRB air unit it loses one step. If more than one naval unit qualifies, Japanese player's choice. Draw one Strategy Card. Remove from play if use as an event.

15 12/9/2018 10:13:00 AM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Message Technically, your ENMs should have preceded drawing your cards, so that they would have been done, in the blind, so to speak.

This isn't a problem in our game, so just go ahead and send them when ready.
14 12/9/2018 9:27:00 AM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Message You need my ENMs, correct sir? I'm way out of practice ......

NOTE: Using 'Arcadia Conference' option.

11 12/8/2018 11:03:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Draw Strategy cards Drew 7 cards.

NOTE: Using 'Historical Opening' option.

10 12/8/2018 11:03:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Message As you're rusty, Mark, during the opening, I'll take the liberty of reminding you of certain things. Don't rely on me remembering everything, but I'll not keep anything I remember secret.

You get to make an Emergency Naval Move before you draw your cards.

You'll be drawing 5 cards, of course. When you do so, you can choose to include Arcadia.

As a Tournament Rule, the Japanese get to play with the Historic Japan Hand rule (17.25.F). That's wicked bad, but think of how gooood you'll feel when I can't capture the DEI even with that benefit!

I understand, you'll not be able to get to stuff immediately, but none of your decisions will be impacted by my card draw, so I'm going to go ahead and do that, just so I can begin planning / scheming.
9 12/8/2018 10:07:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Moderator Message I've switched the players. You should be all set.

5 12/8/2018 8:49:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Message I definitely don't think I can beat Mark as the Allies if I spot him 2 PW, so Mark will be Allies and Don will be Japanese.

I'm going to see if I can change the players. In the worse case, Chris will have to create a new game vice filling the players in this one.
4 12/8/2018 3:33:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Message Greetings all. +1 Allies is the bid.
3 12/7/2018 11:47:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Message Hey! I couldn't have asked for a more fun opponent. In as much as I'm not expecting to get to the late DE rounds, tho I will be trying, it's going to be fun playing each other. I think we're going to have a really great game.

Over on the FTP tournament, one of my opponents is a shark as well. Mustafa Corapci if you know him.
