346 2/15/2019 12:36:00 PM Jan-Apr 1943 Allies End Turn
345 2/3/2019 4:18:00 PM Jan-Apr 1943 Japanese Message Thanks for the game. I actually screwed up a significant part of the opening. Not taking Rangoon was a major blunder and my improved position in New Guinea and Guadalcanal only partially made up for it. Had the game gone on there would be big problems in that area.

As for Australia the opening gave me an option but to really consider taking Australian ports you first need to take Port Moresby and then reposition Comb Fleet HQ somewhere around Davao. Once I decided to go for the occupy Alaska play I couldn't move the HQ and you had loaded up Port Moresby so I didn't consider it further.

My final hand with a weather card and Tojo sort of forced me to go for the Political Will victory but it would have been a lot easier had I not virtually given away progress of war in the previous turn by not covering a couple of ports with air zones (an unforgivable sin that I was very lucky to survive).

I will report the result to Chris.
344 2/2/2019 11:17:00 PM Jan-Apr 1943 Allies Message One last question - were you ever planning on invading Australia - I was really afraid of that, giving how fast you advanced across the South Pacific
343 2/2/2019 11:16:00 PM Jan-Apr 1943 Allies Message Congratulations you played a great game. You really have the Japanese opening down. I played the second edition about 10 years go, but this is my first time with the 3rd edition and you can see I was a bit rusty on the rules. I also probably should have used the extra amps I got last turn to take out the Japanese army in the Aleutians. That combined with the failure of the submarine warfare to take away one of your cards guaranteed you would have the last move this turn which would bring PW down to 2. I figured by forgoing any islands in the Marshalls this turn I would have an easier time picking up 4 next turn, and then things would get easier from there. I did not count on the Tojo card appearing however!

342 2/2/2019 9:39:00 AM Jan-Apr 1943 Japanese Play Strategy card as Event #43: 1 / Tojo Resigns: Moderates in Power
If the game turn is 1944 or later, this card must be played as an event otherwise it is a Japanese option to play as an event, an OC, or discard. Reduce US Political Will by two. The Allied Manchurian Invasion card's prerequisite has been met. Flip the game turn marker from its PM Tojo to its Tojo Resigns side as a reminder. RESHUFFLE: If this card is played as an OC or a discard, reshuffle the Japanese deck at the end of this game turn. This card may not be played as a Future Offensive. Remove from play if used as an event.

OC: 3 EC: 0

Message from Japanese:
And my last card to Tojo as event to drop Will by 2. The failure of POW is another -1 and three turns of occupation of Alaska is another -1. So Will hits zero. My position is otherwise hopeless so this rather sleezy card combo was my only chance.
Do you see any errors in this analysis?
341 2/2/2019 9:37:00 AM Jan-Apr 1943 Japanese Play Strategy card as Event #22: 2 / Weather: Monsoon Rains Cancel Offensive
Allied Offensive is canceled. All units are placed back at their starting locations. Remove from play if used as an event.

OC: 4 EC: 0

Message from Japanese:
OK then I am afraid it is game over. Monsoon will cancel the offensive.
340 2/2/2019 9:21:00 AM Jan-Apr 1943 Allies Message Yes that is part of the plan...
339 2/2/2019 8:41:00 AM Jan-Apr 1943 Japanese Message To clarify. This will be the last card you play this turn because you can't play the Future Offensive as the last card. Thus you are giving up on making progress of war. I want to make sure we are both on the same page.
338 2/2/2019 3:32:00 AM Jan-Apr 1943 Allies Message Northhamton and Mississippi should be (Northhamton) and (Mississippi)

So it is another card that when it shows up I need to discard and replace. I don't understand why there is a return to deck button anyway, that should not be something that needs to happen. 297 1/21/2019 8:07:00 PM Jan-Apr 1943 Japanese Message And I forgot that I only activated one ship (had been thinking of another). So the sub hit would have ended up on Soryu anyway. Lucky for me all rolls seem to be on the high sides of the die.
296 1/21/2019 6:43:00 PM Jan-Apr 1943 Japanese Message Obviously if I get luck for a change I will have some response to consider.
295 1/21/2019 6:42:00 PM Jan-Apr 1943 Japanese Message Note if the sub had hit the target would have been my choice.

Still confused. I assume the 5 active units are both 11AF units plus the 10, 13 and 5 LRBs (for a total attach strength of 26). You actually have not designated the target but I assume it is the [2AD] at Namu. If that is what you intend then you are correct, I don't get a die roll modifier to my intel roll. Let me know if this is correct. If it is you can make the die roll and assuming I don't detect the attack I will have no move so you can eliminate my air unit and make your post battle moves.

257 1/17/2019 6:07:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message I am not playing well so I can't really complain that the die isn't helping me. But I would have had a chance to contest this one, save the air unit, and prevent reinforcements from going into Kavieng. Instead 24AF is auto dead and I can't move anyone. Back to you for post battle movement. That will complete the Ops Phase and we can move on to the Political Phase.

250 1/16/2019 1:50:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Play Strategy card as Future Offensive Message from Japanese:
OK I will probably try to do a short summary of unit locations at the end of the turn to make sure about who is where.

I am playing my last card into the FO box so that I'll have on for next turn. Back to you.
249 1/16/2019 1:44:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Sorry for the confusion - original intent for PBM was to have the entire force remain in Kwaijalien except for the (Wasp) which returned to 5808 (Hawaii) and both units of the 11th AF which returned to Nauru where they would be based with the unactivated 10th LRB.

Problem with this move is that it would lead to unacceptable overstacking in Kwajalien, so PBM was revised as follows:

Everyone returns from whence they came. Only exception to this is the two unit of the 11th AF, which remain on Kwajalien.

Back to you for last round of the turn!

248 1/16/2019 12:12:00 PM Sep-Dec 1942 Japanese Message That is a little confusing.
First remember that none of the air units were ever at Kwajalein. They were either at Nauru or Tarawa. They can move to Kwajalein during Post Battle Movement.

Sounds like you are changing the positions. Now all boats except [New Orleans] are at Espiritu Santo and all planes except both 11AF units are also at ES. No air left at Tarawa and 10AF LRB which was not activated is still at Nauru.
247 1/16/2019 12:44:00 AM Sep-Dec 1942 Allies Message Left them in Kwajalein but forgot about stacking. Will leave 11 AF TAC and LRB in Kwajalein, (New Orleans) returns to Pearl, rest of fleet and LRB's return to Espiritu Santu.
