409 3/17/2019 11:51:00 AM Sep-Dec 1943 Japanese Message Regarding Attu/Kiska, to be honest, I just flat out forgot about it until turn 4, and then I was really kicking myself. By then, I felt like it was too late to be of value (which turned out to be true!).

Yes, I was really hoping to see Tojo show up on Turn 5, but them's the breaks.

I have mainly played the shorter 1-year scenarios, and most of my recent play has been as the Allies, so it was good to get exposed to the Japanese side of things. I really did learn some good lessons during the game, so I thank you for that. Hopefully, I can avoid making similar mistakes in the next round (which means I can make a whole new set of mistakes).

Thanks for a fun game (and for helping to run the tournament).

407 3/17/2019 11:25:00 AM Sep-Dec 1943 Allies Message Thanks for a great game, Brian! I agree that with the loss of South HQ, I will be able to mop up the DEI resource hexes this turn and with 2 full turns ahead of the deadline it would be a fairly easy march to a blockade victory.

I'll tell you though, if you had had Tojo in your turn 5 hand, you would have won on PW. The +1 Allied PW bid turned out to be riskier than I thought and the early Allied setback on Kwajalein opened the door for you there.

One tip, though, for future plays: taking Attu/Kiska is low effort/high reward for the JP. I'm not sure if you just forgot about it, or you didn't have the right combination of cards for the single activation from Combined Fleet. But you should try to find a way to AA a unit over there on Turn 2.

Good luck in the rest of the tournament!
406 3/17/2019 11:07:00 AM Sep-Dec 1943 Japanese Message Nicely played (and badly played by me).

Well, I think I will end my suffering and concede the game to you. I definitely learned a few lessons at the school of hard knocks. Lessons learned that way are always a bit painful, but they tend to stick with you longer.

Congrats on your victory. Good luck in the next round!

Just an FYI, you don't get the +3 for the reaction ground unit in ground combat unless a ground or HQ unit was there *prior* to me Amphibiously Assaulting it. See 9.4.Reaction Player Modifiers section:

"If the Reaction player had any land or HQ units in a hex prior to the Offensives player conducting an Amphibious assault into that hex, the Reaction player adds +3 to the die roll."

In this case, the results are the same either way, but for future reference that reaction counterattack was a bit more perilous for the reduced ground army you put in there than you may have thought.

But it was a low percentage chance to kill 2M Div which would have lost me a hard earned PW point. So, full marks for seeing that. I should have used the M Bde in Biak instead to avoid that possibility.

Over to you for the next play.

BB Miss to Kendari

Back to you.

335 3/3/2019 9:48:00 AM May-Aug 1943 Japanese Message No worries. I'm still learning the finer points of this game and just realized I had overlooked an important rule.
334 3/3/2019 9:33:00 AM May-Aug 1943 Allies Message Sorry for the delay. I was travelling for work yesterday. Let me look though this and get back.
333 3/3/2019 9:16:00 AM May-Aug 1943 Japanese Message I just realized that since you only had one air unit in Battle A, you were limited to damaging just one of my air units.

Consequently, I think the best you could have done was to flip Nachi and Akagi, and my 51 AF and Ryujo units would have been left undamaged.

You can correct that when you do your PBM, or I can when I do my next move.

Battle B: A/N

DR1 = Allies with 8 points
DR2 = Japan with 19 points

327 3/2/2019 9:54:00 AM May-Aug 1943 Japanese Message Battle A: A/N results

Allies roll 5+1 = 6 => x1 = 39 points
Japan rolls 3 => x.5 = 26 points

Japan flips BB Mass for 16 points.

Allies can flip 51 AF, Akagi, and Ryujo for 30 points
Or they can flip 51 AF, Akagi, and Nachi for 32 points

Either way, Allies will end up having 31 points to either 40 or 41 points for Japan, so the invasion is turned back.

I will flip the Ryjuo for now, but you can swap it out for the Nachi if you wish.
