538 3/20/2019 12:02:00 AM Summer 1916 Moderator Message Congrats Dirk. You both will be advancing to the second round, as this is a double elimination tournament, but you have quite a bit of time before it starts. Rest up, observe other games in the tournament, or find some new opponents in the 'opponents wanted' list!
537 3/18/2019 10:39:00 AM Summer 1916 Central Powers Message Very good, Dirk. I'll send you an email later today. Thanks again for the great game! Well played!
536 3/18/2019 10:21:00 AM Summer 1916 Allies Message Hi Jeremy, I accept your surrender. No need to continue this fight, I agree that it would be impossible to recover from this situation even you were to play a big RP card now.

Thanks for playing me and keeping a firm pace even though it was clear from the start that you had to find your grips at some points in the game. I will send an email to Michael informing him of your surrender. Letís address your questions in a seperate email.
535 3/18/2019 10:08:00 AM Summer 1916 Central Powers Message All GE forces eliminated; eliminate [BR2] and flip incoming BRc; BR3&$ advance into Liege.

And with that, I lay down my arms and beg for your mercy. :)

Great game, Dirk! Thanks for your sporting spirit and great gamesmanship.

I would welcome a debrief by e-mail and have a few general questions to ask you about strategy, ways to improve my play, etc.

Do one of us let the moderators know the result of the game?

Thanks again! Best of luck in the rest of the tournament!

530 3/18/2019 9:15:00 AM Summer 1916 Central Powers Message Gotcha. Sorry for the mistake on my end. Nothing changes then except my FF.

Over to you to proceed with the combat: A8 roll for me, followed by an A? from you with your surviving troops.
529 3/18/2019 9:08:00 AM Summer 1916 Allies Message My attack on Liege resulted in a 5/4 win for the CP. This does not change losses on my side. However, on your side this means that the incoming [GEc] is also eliminated.

Your attack on Sedan is subsequently on the 6A column.
528 3/18/2019 8:14:00 AM Summer 1916 Central Powers Message ...and just looking at the Western Front makes me sad...it's amazing how few troops the GE have there. You have really blown me off the map! I don't see myself surviving until the end of Turn 11. Nice job, Dirk!

Results at Liege: 4/3 win for the CP:

I replace [GE3] with [GEc] from RB for my losses.

I flip your BR2 for your losses.

515 3/17/2019 8:12:00 PM Summer 1916 Central Powers Message Ah yes, LF4 in Martin...my mistake. [GEc] also eliminated there.

I flipped RU6 & RU7 in Gorlice, leaving RU1 intact.

Now for my AR4...
514 3/17/2019 6:33:00 PM Summer 1916 Allies Message Flipping AH1 and GEc in Martin is only 3LF, so I assume that you flip AH1 and eliminate GEc in Martin.

In Gorlice I flip two armies. You can pick the numbers, I do not have access to map at this time.

503 3/17/2019 4:18:00 PM Summer 1916 Central Powers Message Yes, I think your insight is correct! This can a punishing game, certainly for beginners!

Ah, I see now. You are being more than fair Dirk, even as your victory becomes more and more assured. :)

I appreciate your sportsmanship, and I will revise that last move to drop one [TUc] in Aleppo (with the other one still going to Adana).

Here then are my revsied 4 Ops:

1) M Oppeln: GEc to Martin
2) M Cracow: AH10 to Martin
3) M Novi Sad: GEc to Miskcolz

502 3/17/2019 3:31:00 PM Summer 1916 Allies Message I think that the feeling of despair is the key element of WWI that has been transferred to the game!

Before I play I want to check with you that you are aware of the fact that if I move to Aleppo (from Mardin) the SW of Turkey is still at risk of being put OOS.

491 3/17/2019 8:08:00 AM Summer 1916 Central Powers Message Ah, I forgot to replace the army with a corps...thanks for the reminder. And, yes I will flip the incoming GEc to prevent your advance. I won't last much longer if the battles keep going this way!

Thanks for the clarification about A vs L. :) How do you like BtB vis-a-vis PoG?

...and now I will take my AR2
490 3/17/2019 3:34:00 AM Summer 1916 Allies Message Sorry, for the confusion on L vs A. I also play Barbarossa to Berlin (also by Raicer) and there the army table (A) is called large table (L). The correct annotation for PoG is A :)

For the assault on Strassbourg, your [GE3] is replaced by a GEc from the RB. This GEc can be flipped to cancel the retreat. Otherwise I will advance and put Mulhouse OOS.
489 3/16/2019 6:20:00 PM Summer 1916 Central Powers Message ...and of course I roll another 1 :(

Doesn't this game know about the "law of averages?" :(

Combat results:

1) Kharput: 4/1 win for AP. I eliminate TUc, RU CAU advances

2) Strasbourg: 5/3 win for AP. I eliminate [GE3] and GEc.

I'm guessing you didn't give orders to advance b/c the odds of blowing me out were so improbable, but my luck is such that now you may advance if you wish. Your choice?

I don't see any sieges on the board, so over to you for RPs and attrition.
463 3/16/2019 4:10:00 AM Spring 1916 Allies Message A few clarifications:
1) Agree with your flipped GE10 in Liege, so I have GE2, [GE3] and [GE10] in Liege.
2) Forts fire on the corps/fort table, so your roll means 2LF for me, only RU9 is flipped.
3) I forgot to remove a GEc from Strassbourg for an earlier attack by you. Your assessment was correct and it was a 5/5 draw. In my attack also the [FRc] was present. So for my losses I flip FR6 and eliminate the [FRc].

455 3/15/2019 6:21:00 PM Spring 1916 Allies Play Strategy card as Combat #19: 2 / Air Superiority
A BR or FR attack adds +1 drm. ANA, AUS, CND, or PT do not qualify as BR for this purpose.

Message from Allies:
For the attack on Strassbourg
454 3/15/2019 6:15:00 PM Spring 1916 Allies Play Strategy card as Operations #12: 3 / Entrench
Place a Level 1 Trench (not improve a Level 1 to Level 2) in any space occupied by a supplied friendly Army. Both players may now entrench. Only one player may play this card as an event.

Message from Allies:
AL9 AR6: OPs

M Kars: RUc to Mardin, everything east of Mardin OOS
C Nancy: Stack attacks Strassbourg, L5(trench)+1 vs L12(trench, fort), advance if possible.
C Uzhgorod: Stack attacks Przemysl, fort destroyed, possible damage to the Russians.
453 3/15/2019 6:08:00 PM Spring 1916 Allies Message You also still owe me 3LF from your AR4 attack on Brussels. Flip GE2 in Brussels?
452 3/15/2019 6:03:00 PM Spring 1916 Allies Message 4/3 win for the CP, I eliminate SB2 and replace it with a SBc <1,0>. I flip AH5 for you. SBc retreats to Monastir. Does the AH11 advance?

448 3/15/2019 4:43:00 PM Spring 1916 Central Powers Message PS. Re: the upcoming Kovno battle, I don't wish to advance in a way that leaves Insterberg vacant. Let's see what happens
447 3/15/2019 3:17:00 PM Spring 1916 Central Powers Message Okay, i think I see now that it will. In that case, I will undo the Mosul-Mardin move with moving the TUc in Ankara to Sivas. I realize that undoing the Mosul-Mardin move still leaves the far E part of the TU army in OOS danger, but I'm willing to accept that risk and try to save as much of the army as I can with this revised move. Thanks again, Dirk. You've been more than sporting about this!

So here, then, are my revised 4 Ops from "Place of Execution":

1) M Spitall: AH1 to Trent

2) M Ankara: TUc to Sivas

3) C Insterberg: stack attacks Kovno (A10 vs A6; prioritize losses to GEc and [GE5]; advance GE8 and any intact GEc if possible)

4) C Nis: stack attacks Skpoje (A5 vs A2; I will wait for results before deciding about losses and advance on this one)
446 3/15/2019 3:04:00 PM Spring 1916 Central Powers Message Wait, if the RUc in Erzingan moves to Adana, will that cut off supply to all TUc's E of there?
445 3/15/2019 12:05:00 PM Spring 1916 Central Powers Message I see that the TUc is Rize is still in danger of being OOS, but that's the only danger I see that isn't rectified by the Mosul-Mardin move. If I'm missing something else, you have my permission to proceed and drop the hammer on me. :) So I'll stick with those 4 Ops and hope for the best. Thanks!
444 3/15/2019 12:02:00 PM Spring 1916 Central Powers Message Ok, no i wasn't asking for advice...I'll give it a second look. The poor Turks may not be worth saving... :(
443 3/15/2019 11:57:00 AM Spring 1916 Allies Message Yes, Trent is part of Austria-Hungary. No, you did not solve your OOS issues. I will let you puzzle one more time, because it does Ďfeelí right to tell you what you should do.
442 3/15/2019 11:49:00 AM Spring 1916 Central Powers Message PS. It seems prudent to re-post my revised 4 Ops in one place (but please see previous message for more details):

CP9 AR6: Play "Place of Execution" for 4 Ops

1) M Spitall: AH1 to Trent

2) M Mosul: TUc to Mardin

3) C Insterberg: stack attacks Kovno (A10 vs A6; prioritize losses to GEc and [GE5]; advance GE8 and any intact GEc if possible)

4) C Nis: stack attacks Skpoje (A5 vs A2; I will wait for results before deciding about losses and advance on this one)
441 3/15/2019 11:19:00 AM Spring 1916 Central Powers Message Ah, I just re-read the Historical Scenario which lists Trent as a restricted space for GE armies. My mistake.

(But just so I'm clear, Trent *is* part of AH, right?)

Given that, I'll use that Op to move the AH1 into Trent instead, leaving the GE4 in Innsbruck.

This gives me another Op to spend (since I had paid 2 to activate Innsbruck as a multi-national space mistakenly), which I will use to move the TUc in Mosul to Mardin. I think this rectifies any immediate supply problems.

Thanks again for helping me understand these nuances! I promise I've read them, but it's just so much to keep track of. I'm thankful for your experience and ability to "see" the game at a deeper level.

I think that squares everything away, yes? If so, over to you for the combat rolls for Kovno and Skopje, then your AR6. Let me know if I've overlooked anything. Thanks!
440 3/15/2019 11:12:00 AM Spring 1916 Allies Message Trent is part of Austria-Hungary you are correct, but check also rule 5.7.4 (point 6) in the latest rules.
