79 2/19/2019 6:14:00 PM August 1914 Allies Message As soon as both players are done with sieges, RPs and discards, the CP player can press ‘End Turn’. Then the next thing he should do is get a new hand of cards and roll both MOs. After that you can play your first action round.
78 2/19/2019 5:10:00 PM August 1914 Central Powers Message I don't see a way to draw new cards. I only see "draw extra card" under the admin features (which seems to indicate drawing one card at a time), then "end turn;" but drawing new cards is technically part of Turn 1 (6.0 H), so I don't want to click that without knowing what it does. Maybe in ACTS drawing cards is part of a new turn? I will wait for your guidance on this.

I will discard a combat card, draw a new hand, and then roll our Turn 2 MOs, and take my first action. Again, I appreciate your patience with me on Turn 1. I'm enjoying the game!

I feel like we are making good time on the number of cards played, even with my rules blunders slowing us down. Thanks for doing your part to keep us on track. Hope you have a great weekend, Dirk!
66 2/15/2019 1:11:00 PM August 1914 Central Powers Message Ah, yes...I see my mistake now in 13.1.8. Thanks! Ok, in that case I will place that final GEc in Metz instead of Munkacs. All four GEc are coming from the RB. Sorry for another mistake, and I continue to appreciate your patience, Dirk!

Message from Central Powers:
Now I really need those RPs! :(
61 2/15/2019 8:14:00 AM August 1914 Central Powers Message Ugh. Well, my own lack of knowledge of the rules is really punishing me now! I wouldn't have made that attack if had remembered the rule about no flanks allowed against trenches. That was a very poor decision on my part--and I paid the price for it. I'm sorry that I am making so many mistakes, Dirk. This most recent one is very frustrating to myself. I'm sure it's frustrating for you to play against such a clumsy opponent. I'm sorry. I will review the rules this weekend in hopes of better play.

Also, your last card play say "play as RPs" but your note indicates that you used it for SR. This shouldn't matter in terms of the card still going to the discard pile, but I just wanted to clarify that SR is what you wanted, not RPs. (I'm recording it as SR for now). Thanks!

55 2/14/2019 5:38:00 PM August 1914 Central Powers Play Strategy card as Operations #10: 3 / SUD Army
One AH unit and up to 2 GE corps may stack together and be Activated for a cost of 1 OPS point. A different stack may be chosen each Action Round. If a second AH unit or a second non-GE corps unit is present, then the activation cost is 2 OPS points. This event does not supercede rule 12.1.11.

Message from Central Powers:
CP AR4. Play as 3 Ops:

1) M: [GEc] in Bremen to Liege
2) C: [GE2] and GE3 in Sedan, attacking Verdun
3) C: GE4 and GE5 in Metz, attacking Verdun

Flank attempt, no CCs for me.

Attacker on FF15 (16+ but shift 1L for L1 trench)
Defender on FF12-14 (9 but shift 1R for trench; only if flank is unsuccessful)

Okay, looking at the combat procedure in the e-mail you sent me, I'll go ahead and roll for the flank next and declare any advances/losses.

Defensive fire for [AH3] in Tarnonpol on FF1
45 2/13/2019 7:57:00 PM August 1914 Central Powers Message Thanks for clarifying about the BEF! I didn't realize the loss priority was only when they were attacking. (I love the game, but there so many exceptions to keep track of...nice job!).

I flipped GE2 for my losses.

Did Withdrawal cancel your losses to BE1? I think it did, I just want to make sure.

I understand having the defender roll first in regular combat, but I'm not clear on why they should in a flank? It seems that they wouldn't know which fire column they are on until the attacker rolls? Help me understand.

Okay, I think that covers everything. Now I'll go roll my defense against your attack in Tarnopol (knowing I'm doomed!) :)

Thanks, Dirk!

41 2/13/2019 5:54:00 PM August 1914 Allies Play Strategy card as Combat #6: 2 / Withdrawal
Defending units negate one required Corps step loss and instead must retreat 1 space. Full strength Attacking units may advance. If no Corps step(s) lost, an Army step loss may be negated. See rule 12.6 for details.

Message from Allies:
As mentioned in my email, you should let the defender roll combats even if you win the flank (flank attempt you can roll as attacker).

I will play this card for the attack on Brussels
40 2/13/2019 5:47:00 PM August 1914 Allies Message Rule 12.4.5 is only giving me loss priority if BEF is attacking. In this case the BEF is defending so I can also take the losses on the BE1.
39 2/13/2019 5:17:00 PM August 1914 Central Powers Message Also, I am not planning to advance if this attack succeeds. (I mainly wanted to weaken the BEF and possibly cause a retreat)

I will put the Entrench card back in my hand and make a new play. Again, my apologies. Thanks, Dirk!
27 2/13/2019 1:02:00 PM August 1914 Allies Message Turkey is neutral at the start of the game and enters the war on the side of the CP, when the CP are at limited war (i.e. the turn that the CP Limited War cards are added to the deck).

Next to that rule 5.7.4 also rules the ENTRENCH may not be played as an Event on turn 1.

I hope this clarifies your question. And please adjust your card play as the play you made is against the rules.
26 2/13/2019 10:53:00 AM August 1914 Central Powers Message One point of clarification: I rolled a 3 for my MO, which should be Turkey, but in an earlier entry you put "none" for my MO. I don't see this listed in the rules as an exception. Is there something I'm missing?

1 2/10/2019 2:04:00 PM August 1914 Moderator Message Welcome to Round One of the BPA VIII Paths of Glory Tournament!

I'll be your game moderator and should be your first point of contact for any issues related to this match. As always, the priority should be for a fun and fair match for all involved. The official launch date for this round is February 14th, 2019 but feel free to start your match immediately. Round 1 concludes on Wednesday, June 19, 2019; you'll have 125 days this round.

Contacting me: I am based in Texas (US CST, GMT -6) and will generally respond to all match questions within 24 hours. I strongly recommend you e-mail me directly at "mdauer92@yahoo.com" referencing your match # when you do so. If I do not respond within 48 hours, please escalate to one of the other GMs (gregorit@yahoo.com or paulhubbard@hotmail.co.uk). If I am going to be unavailable for more than 48 hours, I will alert you ahead of time.

Issue Resolution: If either player has a concern about a particular ruling or resolution I make, feel free to raise it to the other GMs. I will also reach out to Paul and Tom if there's something I'm not sure of. Please remember that the ACTS logs are viewable for all, direct e-mail exchanges with your opponent are obviously permitted but GMs will view the ACTS logs as the authoritative record of the game.

Getting Started:
Here are my thoughts on how to get the match started:
- Introduce yourselves and set expectations regarding your availability and game pace.
- Agree on the scenario. The default is the WBC Historical Scenario as described on the POG Tournament Page and I strongly recommend its usage.
- Agree on usage of supply warnings. They are strongly recommended.
- There is no mandatory usage of a particular PBEM tool. VASSAL is recommended but not necessary and exchanging game logs is also optional.
- Bid for sides. (Initial bidder is to be random, one of you should just roll a die with a 50-50 shot of that player bidding first. Switch sides in ACTS if necessary, contact me if you need help with this.
- Draw cards. CP will then kick off the fun by rolling the turn 1 MO and playing their first card.

Have fun!

Michael Dauer
