#11: 2 / Oberost German units may now attack spaces containing RU forts. (They may always besiege such spaces). May still be played for War Status after CP War Status is 4 or higher. War Status increased to 3 Message from Central Powers: Play as event. I can now attack Russian forts. |

4 hits. That eliminates the Austrian army. No need to roll the Austrians because I can do no damage. The remaining AHc retreats to Munkacs. You may advance to Tarnopol. |

You are absolutely correct, Pat. I completely zoned out the failed flank attack. No need to roll again because one only learns from mistakes by accepting them. Therefore, the GE2 is at full strength, and the FR5 is reduced to a corps. FR5 retreats to Melun. Since the counter attack I was planning is illegal, I would like to change my card play, if that is okay with you, as I need only 3 ops. If it is okay with you, then this Activate corps in Grenoble to move to Paris RU3,8 activated for attack on Tarnopol AH3 Flank attack with RU8 pinning If you concur, please instruct me on who rolls when; I’m afraid that may take me a round or two to understand, should I last that long. And finally, thanks for your help and thanks for your patience. |

Also, your attack does not work. If you are attacking with a force of more than one nationality, at least one space must include units of all nationalities involved. See rule 2.1.11.1. So please redo your move. From a strategy standpoint, you may want to avoid attacking in the West until you get stronger. Right now the Germans are too strong. You may want to do some reinforcing, either through strategic redeployment or movement. You can also do some stuff on other fronts. Also, be careful on using Blockade for operations. It is worth five victory points if played by the first winter, so make sure you use it as an event before the first winter turn. |

Couple of things I'm not sure how you rolled this, but with a flank attack, by rule, whoever won the flank roll rolls first, applies the result then the other side rolls. Using that order, the first roll should have been for the French, which rolled 2, resulting in 2 loss factors for the Germans or no effect. The Germans would roll next, a 5, resulting in 7 losses for the French. I don't know if that was your intent, so we can roll it again if you wish. |

Upon review, I think the FR5 should have retreated 2 spaces: 2 on 15 column = 5; 5 on 3 column = 3 for a difference of 2. Ergo, FR2 retreats to Melun. Consequently, FR5 & 9 move to Chateau Thierry and BEF, FR3,4,5 attack Sedan. |

Welcome to Round One of the BPA VIII Paths of Glory Tournament! I'll be your game moderator and should be your first point of contact for any issues related to this match. As always, the priority should be for a fun and fair match for all involved. The official launch date for this round is February 14th, 2019 but feel free to start your match immediately. Round 1 concludes on Wednesday, June 19, 2019; you'll have 125 days this round. Contacting me: I am based in the UK (GMT 0) and will generally respond to all match questions within 24 hours. I strongly recommend you e-mail me directly at "paulhubbard@hotmail.co.uk" referencing your match # when you do so. If I do not respond within 48 hours, please escalate to one of the other GMs (mdauer92@yahoo.com or gregorit@yahoo.com). Issue Resolution: If either player has a concern about a particular ruling or resolution I make, feel free to raise it to the other GMs. I will also reach out to Tom and Michael if there's something I'm not sure of. Please remember that the ACTS logs are viewable for all, direct e-mail exchanges with your opponent are obviously permitted but GMs will view the ACTS logs as the authoritative record of the game. Getting Started: Here are my thoughts on how to get the match started: - Introduce yourselves and set expectations regarding your availability and game pace. - Agree on the scenario. The default is the WBC Historical Scenario as described on the POG Tournament Page and I strongly recommend its usage. - Agree on usage of supply warnings. They are strongly recommended. - There is no mandatory usage of a particular PBEM tool. VASSAL is recommended but not necessary and exchanging game logs is also optional. - Bid for sides. (Initial bidder is to be random, one of you should just roll a die with a 50-50 shot of that player bidding first. Switch sides in ACTS if necessary, contact me if you need help with this. - Draw cards. CP will then kick off the fun by rolling the turn 1 MO and playing their first card. Have fun! Paul Hubbard |
