It is striking how the game brings out the differences between the sides. The Confederates have the leaders but not enough men and the Union have the men but lack the leaders to get them moving!

I need to get a better grip of the river effects as I made a right mess of my moves in Kentucky this turn and even if I could have crossed, the plan to cut you off would have failed as you would have been supplied by the river anyway.

They weren't kidding when they said this part of the rules leads to the most confusion! We could post something on BGG to get a definitive answer if you like as Mark Herman seems to answer most questions there.
