Flank roll at CT needs 3-6
618 5/20/2019 7:21:00 PM Fall 1918 Allies Message Other changes I have been kicking around are to add some rules to reduce some of the gamey tactics that are very common.

e.g., I think it would be good to not allow the Bulgarians to be used outside the Balkans and Russia. Similarly, the Turks should be limited to the NE, Balkans and Russia.

And I think that pillow fights in the Balkans should not count as meeting AH(IT) or IT MOs. In real life, they were launching major offensives. This might be better as a general requirement that an MO must include an Army sized unit (with the Turks possibly being given a pass on that part).

And, if we are really OK with playing loose with the rules to see how it goes, we could try re-wording RTC and Yanks and Tanks to have some actual teeth, making them true trench buster cards.
617 5/20/2019 7:13:00 PM Fall 1918 Allies Message Yes, let's finish it out. It is a fun scenario. Your following a nearly perfect historic line really added a lot to the experience. That said, I do think it needs some tweaking and I am excited to get to that.

In today's research, I discovered that AOO got deployed in May 1915. So I think it should be on the board. And I now have two sources stating that the Austrians had basically zero troops facing the Allies in the Balkans. When the Allies started their offensive in 1918, the only AH force was XIX corps, which was in Albania facing the Italians. The Bulgarians ended up surrendering and Romania re-entered the war on the Allied side. Not positive, but I assume that Belgrade was re-taken. Discounting the Romanian re-entry, that is still 2 VP that the Allies took back historically.

Implementing these changes would put AOO on the map and remove AH6 into the EB. Historically, AH6 was dissolved in late 1914 and not re-constituted until 1918, when it was re-formed and sent to Italy. We would need to carefully consider these potential changes in terms of balance in addition to historical accuracy. But it would certainly put some significant pressure on the CP in the Balkans.
616 5/20/2019 7:01:00 PM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message >I stand corrected entirely. The additional words on the card versus in ACTS makes it completely clear that Backs to the Wall is not a reaction card, but rather a one use shot in the dark. Thanks for letting my play stand.

No worries. As I mentioned before, ACTS needs to update the current PoG cards, the ones I sent you a link for.

>Switching gears, I am surprised you want to replay using this current set up. I can only assume that means you think you can do better than I did.

Not at all. I just want to see what it is like as the Allies as a challenge, and to make recommendations on the scenario with both perspectives. Plus, it would give you an opportunity to play the CP.

>I think you played the CP extremely well.
Thanks Bill. I think playing the AP has been tough, and you have played well.

> Did you solo it ahead of time to work out some of the sequencing? And did you come up with some different Allied play that seemed to work better?

No.

>My biggest question on my play so far is whether I should have play AOO. It kept my Balkan threat alive, but it looks like that will not garner me any VPs. While playing the 5 card as RPs that turn would have helped the Western allies a lot. Any opinion you care to offer on that?

I had not thought of that. It would have improved your RP situation very much.

>Or on any of my play?

Not having Kharput as a VP makes committing to the Near East less profitable, along with committing the AOO, since you mentioned it. You did get the BR NE in, and USA army's in as soon as possible. I think you defence of the West has been good.

Did you want to continue the game? It is at 13 VP, soon to be 12 VP due to the Blockade.
615 5/20/2019 5:13:00 PM Fall 1918 Allies Message I stand corrected entirely. The additional words on the card versus in ACTS makes it completely clear that Backs to the Wall is not a reaction card, but rather a one use shot in the dark. Thanks for letting my play stand.

614 5/20/2019 2:52:00 PM Fall 1918 Allies Message I think I saw notes about the card someplace. Will check later to see if I can find them.
613 5/20/2019 2:30:00 PM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message As far as I know, there are no reaction cards in PoG.

From what the card says,

"This CC is permanently discarded regardless of whether a retreat is mandated by the combat results."

it is discarded either way.

I think its role is to mitigate the effects of the German trench busters.

612 5/20/2019 1:10:00 PM Fall 1918 Allies Message I just saw your note on Backs to the Wall. I had assumed it was a reaction card. Does it at least stay on the table if not needed? If not, it seems quite a weak card for a 3 cc.

608 5/19/2019 10:12:00 AM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message Even though Kharput is no longer a VP space, there is still a threat to Constantinople. But the historical scenario does try to shift the focus to the West.

605 5/19/2019 9:55:00 AM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message Bill, 'Backs to the Wall' had to be played before rolling for combat, as it is a CC.
We can assume you played it beforehand.

It is a CC card that is removed even if there was no retreat.
604 5/19/2019 9:49:00 AM Fall 1918 Allies Message I will hold off on moving until I see your losses.
603 5/19/2019 9:46:00 AM Fall 1918 Allies Message I was just making a move in my other game and realized that Kharput is no longer a VP space. So continued campaigning in the NE is virtually useless. If we are going to try to get people to play this scenario, I need to produce a set up on the new board using the historical scenario VP spaces.

575 5/16/2019 1:13:00 AM Summer 1918 Central Powers Message The other thing I confirmed was that because this is a summer turn, no desert combat is allowed (rule 15.2.5), either to or from a desert space. So the ANA in Arabia cannot attack Medina.

15.2.5 Forts in Desert Spaces: A desert space canít be activated for combat during summer. A desert space canít be attacked during summer. Forts in Desert spaces can still be besieged and suffer Siege Resolution during Summer.
574 5/16/2019 12:21:00 AM Summer 1918 Central Powers Message Bill, according to rule 9.2.7 Near East Map:

The Allied player may Activate only one space per Action Round for combat on the Near East map. This applies to spaces actually on the NE map. Units in spaces not on the NE map may still attack into the NE map. (e.g., Adrianople, Gallipoli, Balikesir.) Exceptions: The MEF Beachhead space and the space containing the British NE Army do not count against this limit.

So, Adana can be activated to attack as it contains the BR NE Army, but either Arabia or Mosul can be activated to attack, but not both.

You can change or redo your action round play anyway you want, no problem.
