308 6/20/2019 8:54:00 AM Turn 6 CSA Message well, you haven't lost yet, but if Stuart isn't stopped the game will be over... in taking back Harper's Ferry, you're at 7 vp... Stuart can get to Harrisburg which would be another 2 vp for me and 4 total... that's a difference of 3... that's 12 below 15, the milestone for the turn, and that's an auto win
307 6/20/2019 4:20:00 AM Turn 6 Union Message Are you trying to tell me I have lost? :)
Must admit I haven't paid much attention to the victory conditions.

So in the basic game I can use a single naval card to move a force of 3 SPs plus a general to a coastal fort space. If there are no CSA troops in the associated coastal port, I have a reasonable chance of taking and holding the fort - and blockading it. The problem is, if you garrison the coastal ports - which you spent the first two turns doing, then I have virtually no chance. I can only ever attack with a maximum of 3 SPs and you get an automatic intercept from the coastal port?

Now I have a better understanding of the rules, should we start again? I will read the victory conditions this time. I will take the Union again if that is OK with you.
306 6/19/2019 3:28:00 PM Turn 6 CSA Message Union SP removed... Jackson continues to Harpers Ferry...

for 2nd action point, Stuart takes 1 SP, and moves to 1746, then 1646... do you want to try and intercept? (-1 with the river)

(note 8.2, second bullet... one of the benefits of cav generals)

battle in 1745

CSA: 6 SP (+2)
Union: 1 SP (+2)
304 6/19/2019 3:25:00 PM Turn 6 CSA Message we could either keep going, or, call this a learning exercise and start over... your choice... if you're at 8 VP, this is what I'll do...

Jackson takes 6 SP, moves to 1845 and 1746, removing your control markers there..
then, into 1745 (3 MP) for a battle (you can't evade)
303 6/19/2019 2:06:00 PM Turn 6 CSA Message I think you have 8 VP... if you have a 9th BP somewhere, I must be missing it... do you see a 9th?

(3 in WVa, 3 in the Valley, Lynchburg, Wytheville)

also, you must have a control marker in Manassas...
302 6/19/2019 1:12:00 PM Turn 6 Union Message Stanley with 2 SPs will rail move to Evansville.
301 6/19/2019 1:02:00 PM Turn 6 Union Message remove CSA control from Bowling Green with the last mp.
2nd action, Pope marches from 2120 and joins Grant.
3rd action, Burnside with 5 SPs force marches to and controls Danville.
1 SP at 1812 rail moves to Jefferson City.

Missouri Militia to Ironton.
300 6/19/2019 12:51:00 PM Turn 6 Union Message You lose 2 and I lose 1.

293 6/19/2019 11:45:00 AM Turn 6 CSA Message also, I think your entrenchment will go away and be replaced by a control marker, since you can't end your retreat there, and the space will be empty, and VA is not a friendly state for you (10.1.3)
292 6/19/2019 11:41:00 AM Turn 6 CSA Message after you declare your retreat, you can do the roll for the 4th action phase...

261 6/17/2019 1:30:00 PM Turn 6 CSA Message you said Lynchburg, but the fort is in 2043... is that right? I'll remove the entrenchment from there...

259 6/17/2019 1:15:00 PM Turn 6 CSA Message yeah, I would've been on the 0 column, with a +1...

I was just assuming, but, cavalry generals can only command 1 SP (8.1), so only 1 could've gone with Stanley...

and then, Cav generals cannot place control markers on the move, as it takes 2 to do so, and Cav generals can only take 1 with him (they can sit on a space and place a control marker in the end phase)
258 6/17/2019 12:43:00 PM Turn 6 Union Message Checking the combat chart again, I don't think I took a loss at Indianapolis as Morgan was 1 shift to the left for foraging?

237 6/16/2019 10:48:00 AM Turn 6 CSA Message the restriction in 14.2.2 though is that Union reinforcements have to be placed in northern states... so no, they can't go directly to Hampton or Lynchburg... that's what strategic movement is for though, if you have a route to get them there...

I realized it may not be terribly clear, but from 15.1, you can combine the types of strategic movement. For example, a unit can move by rail, then by ocean, and then by road. That SP counts against each type of movement though.

Hampton is an ocean port (the square box), so you can strat move up to 3 SP there... looks like you have a rail connection to Lynchburg now, so you can rail some there
236 6/16/2019 10:14:00 AM Turn 6 Union Message 14.2.1 says I can put reinforcements directly into objective hexes, does that include Hampton? I presume that means I could put reinforcements straight into Lynchburg?
235 6/16/2019 9:52:00 AM Turn 5 CSA End Turn
234 6/16/2019 9:51:00 AM Turn 5 CSA Message for end of turn, control markers go in Ironton, Indianapolis, and Hampton

Indianapolis gives 2 CSA VP...

the VP differential is 4 (6-2)... and the benchmark for this turn was 12, a difference of 8.. a difference of 12 is an automatic win/loss... (Section 19)

I think we are to your turn 6 reinforcements...
233 6/16/2019 9:22:00 AM Turn 5 Union Message I will go to 1325 and 1524 instead.
232 6/16/2019 9:01:00 AM Turn 5 CSA Message from 5.4.2, I don't think SPs can rail up next to me in my ZOI, in Indianapolis...

"May start in the ZOI (9.1) of an enemy force, but may not enter one unless the hex is occupied by a friendly SP."
231 6/16/2019 4:52:00 AM Turn 5 Union Message 1 SP moves by rail from Cincinnati to 1324.

Halleck moves to Lynchburg and entrenches
Banks moves to Charlottesville and entrenches.
226 6/14/2019 1:34:00 PM Turn 5 CSA Message I don't think it's come up yet, but to make sure you are aware... if you look at the combat chart, if you have 7-12 SP it says you can use 2 leaders... and 3 leaders for 13 or more...

That means you can combine the attack ratings, or defense ratings, of 2 or 3 leaders...

From the play note for 7.3 though, subordinates don't increase the SP a commanding general can carry...

So, to use that many SP and generals, a 3-star general will be involved...

For example, in Lee's stack, I could add 4 for an attack, and 5 for defense (a cav only adds 1 rating when a subordinate, 8.5)
225 6/14/2019 1:27:00 PM Turn 5 CSA Message looks like you retreat 2 again, lose 1 SP, and then since you are already demoralized and lost again, you'd lose a second SP (12.2, second bullet)... your turn then

215 6/14/2019 10:26:00 AM Turn 5 CSA Message yeah, Curtis would be demoralized... the outright loser of any battle is always demoralized (see 12.2)... you took 2 losses to my 1... a tied battle, where results are exactly the same, is where status supply determines if a force is demoralized or not...
214 6/14/2019 3:43:00 AM Turn 5 Union Message Sorry, I cannot do that because of Halleck being cautious.
Halleck just moves to Salem and entrenches.

Play another card and activate Banks. Moves to Staunton
213 6/14/2019 3:32:00 AM Turn 5 Union Message 3 actions, 1 in each.
East - play two cards. Halleck force marches, converts Salem and attacks Longstreet. Play a card for +2 in the attack if you fail to evade.
West - 3 SPs rail move from Cairo to St.louis.
TM - 2 SPs at St. Louis move to join Curtis.

I may go again with a card depending on what happens at Lynchburg.
212 6/14/2019 3:10:00 AM Turn 5 Union Message Am I demoralised at Rolla? I didn't suffer heavy losses and I am in full supply.
211 6/13/2019 5:12:00 PM Turn 5 CSA Message attrition for Morgan is same as before, with the +1, -2, it can't lose an SP...
210 6/13/2019 5:11:00 PM Turn 5 CSA Message so, I lose 1, you lose 2, retreat 2 and are demoralized? I have nothing further... I can't keep moving as I didn't outnumber you 2-1 (11.5.4)
