539 9/9/2019 4:00:00 AM Summer 1917 Allies Message Sorry, tried to send message to my For the People game but didn't close all windows so it sent the message here.
538 9/9/2019 3:19:00 AM Summer 1917 Allies Message Decided to make a new thread about the matter in BGG. Hope that it will settle it.

About the PoG tourney. Managed to grap a win as AP. Opponent conceded on turn 14 after it was becoming pretty certain that he'll lose Turks and 4 or 5 VPs in the process. He hadn't managed to launch his own offensive against the Russia thankfully.
537 9/5/2019 4:28:00 AM Summer 1917 Allies Message What I meant with a "clear favorite" was in the situation before I attacked Urfa. If you didnt take any possible CCs in account, you needed basically two 4+ to kill NE, one during my attack and another when you counter-attacked. Without Kemal it was something like 30-35 to 65-70 chance I think?

I was thinking whether I should have just digged in Aleppo. Even with a fail, you would have needed 5+ for your attack and that would have costed you 3OP. But I leaned towards attacking after all as I thought you needed those two 4+ basically (or a roll of 6 for your attack) so I took my chances.

Anyway you can always argue that NE-offensuve would have been totally different matter IF you didnt pull Kemal for Gaza fight in the first place. It was 1 or 2 pulls out of 18 or so cards I think?

About your turns 5-8. Dont know what kind of hand you had but I find it hard to believe it was that bad. Both decks have same number of non-CC 2OP cards. Its really an issue if you draw 4+ CCs or 3+ CCs with multible "permanent" 2OP cards. But anyway, its difficult to have an definite answer.

Regarding about the strategic issues and ACTS-games, can't point out any games where there were just 3 GE armies in EF. Usually thats the number I use, but it requires I'm able to use AH to bash Russians as well. Not sure if I'm ever going to march 3 FR armies to Italy though. Sure they forced you to bring 1GE and 2AH armies in a mexican standoff so it wasn't all that bad.

Anyway, thanks and good luck.
536 9/5/2019 2:25:00 AM Summer 1917 Central Powers Message I’m not sure why you would say you were the “clear favorite” in the second battle. It was 3A v 3A…a 50-50 shot. Taking my 2 attacks together on the NE A, there was a 92% chance of killing it. The fact that it was still on the board is simply a reflection of my lousy luck. We’d be looking at a different game if it had died in Turn 11.

As a new player, I certainly take your point that putting 12 German Armies in the West will lock it down, but that leaves only 3 for the East. Not sure that that you can generate much offensive punch with that. Was wondering if you could point to any of your games (or someone else’s) in ACTS where that strategy was successful for the CP…I’d certainly like to look at it.

Also, this was the first time I saw the “three French Armies to Italy” gambit. I’ll certainly have to give some thought about how to respond to that better.

Having said all the above, I still go back to my earlier comment about my four consecutive bad card draws in turns 5-8. We were even, but that sequence allowed you to decisively grab the lead/momentum. The fact that I never got anything going in the East was largely due to the lack of ops during that critical sequence. To get back in the game, I would have needed you to make some mistakes (or a major change in the luck factor). But you are too good a player to make those kinds of mistakes ;-)

Thanks for the game. It was a good learning experience for me and I definitely picked up some pointers.

Cheers, Scott

535 9/4/2019 11:47:00 PM Summer 1917 Allies Message First escape was miraculous yet helped by the pull of Kemal* (wrote Allenby first). On the second one I was overall a clear favorite to survive with NE.

Think that your biggest strategic flaw was reinforcing east with 5 GE armies right from the start. They just sat the whole game. Had you fully reinforced WF first with 11 or 12 armies you wouldnt have needed to spend tons of OPS just moving armies back and forth there. 3 armies in a space could have easily held even against 3 attacks a turn and then you would have just spend 1OP to send new rebuild armies from Essen to space. Thats how I think that at least.

Well anyway, thanks for the game and I'll wish you great deal of fortune on next rounds.

533 9/4/2019 9:34:00 PM Summer 1917 Central Powers Message Jukka,

With yet another miraculous escape for Allenby, Turkey is lost…as well as the game. While I could drag this out, there is no realistic pathway to victory for me.

I concede…congratulations on a well-played game and all the best to you in the tournament going forward. I’ll let you inform Tom of the result.

532 9/4/2019 12:38:00 AM Summer 1917 Allies Play Strategy card as Strategic Redeployment #9: 3 / Moltke
May only be played in August or September 1914. CP Activation in Belgium or France costs 1 OPS per unit (not space) until the "Falkenhayn" card is played. All units must be activated in a space. Supersedes Sud Army and Eleventh army card effects.

Message from Central Powers:
516 9/1/2019 8:44:00 PM Summer 1917 Central Powers Message Yeah, I totally missed that reduction in the Turkish move factor as well.

Technically though, according to the tournament rules, once you’ve played a card (your AR6 in this case) any mistake made in my turn is supposed to stand.

That said, however, I don’t want to take unfair advantage of a mistake…so let’s assume the Army was in Aleppo at the end of the turn and I’ll redo my AR1 move

515 9/1/2019 3:00:00 PM Summer 1917 Allies Message Hold, I just realized a fault.

(YLD) only has 2 movement after it was flipped meaning that it cant reach Adana from Nablus. Only Aleppo is within its reach.

467 8/24/2019 4:47:00 PM Winter 1917 Central Powers Message So I went back and looked at the rules again on this. Losses are taken before retreats, so the MEF would have been first eliminated and replaced with a Br c. The Br c is then eliminated because it can't retreat.

This means we misplayed it a bit in #401 in that a Ru replacement corps should have been eliminated as well. That doesn't really matter as you had excess replacement points to bring it back anyway.

Eliminate the Bu c for my loss. No advance.
466 8/24/2019 8:41:00 AM Winter 1917 Allies Message 4/2. MEF permanently eliminated. Will it be replaced by a BRc (which will also be eliminated as it can retreat)?
