89 7/11/2019 5:23:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message Hi Don:

Yes a break would be fine. Have a great time at WBC. Going at least one year is on my bucket list. I still need to draft that full report on my consim gaming. My wife is out of town through the weekend so I should have some time this weekend.
88 7/10/2019 9:04:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Message I'm good with pushing the Reset Button if you'd like.

Let me suggest that we wait until after WBC tho. I should be back home about August 8th, so that's time for you to think about it and/or make other hobby arrangements.

I'd still like to hear some about the CSW tournament when you get the chance to collect your thoughts. Did you meet / talk with Mark Herman?
87 7/10/2019 9:02:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Message I concur that the Allies will have a boring game from this point forward. I'll use my hits on Battle B to take out the MAW, last Tactical Air in the Theater, and that'll put both SWPAC and ANZAC under a Jpn AZoI and OOS.

I still have 4x OC-3 cards, three of them Air & Ground only Military Events (the other is a Indian Workers Strike), and a Sub Card that I doubt will get played and probably would end up as a FOQ. I figure 2 cards will not only mop up Malaya and the PI, but Kendari as well. I will definitely occupy Darwin to shorten my lines to protect the DEI.

I haven't worked it out, but I am considering either occupying the entire Australian East Coast OR planning on Advancing HQ CF so that I can actually occupy the New Hebrides! I know that sounds overly ambitious, but Antero Kuusi actually did that to me in a Tournament of the 1943 Scenario about 5 years back! So I know that can be done. And he did it against an Allied force with far more units available. I'm no Kuusi, but then the Allies currently have a much bigger problem than in the '43 Set Up.

Bottom line, it'd be fun for me to try to do that without over extending, but it'd be pretty un-fun for the Allied player. Any more conservative path forward would basically be pretty standard..., neither of us would learn much and the game would devolve into waiting to see if I could get that final PW point somehow.

So, it's not particularly obvious because none of the Jpn cards were spectacular (other than maybe getting East Force so quickly after the opening), but the Cards were very good for the Jpn. I had all 4 draw cards in Turn 2 as OC-3's and as I mentioned here, every thing was an OC-3 except the one sub card. The Air/Ground restriction only isn't going to slow me down in Malaya / PI / Kendari-Darwin. So, limited kudos for me because of the unusually great cards.
86 7/10/2019 6:39:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message I am probably being way to hard on myself but so be it. Regardless it would be impossible for the Allies to come back from the wrecking that you will be able to do with the last 5 cards of the turn.

You either take a shot at destroying all US naval units or you take the solomons and isolate SW PAC HQ and push the allies staring position all the way back to New Caledonia.

What I should have done is put the naval units in PH, SW PAC in either Darwin or Townsville. Anzac at G'Canal and spread some air units there and around NG to create some speed bumps.

That's what happens when you get to aggressive without the forces to back it up.
85 7/10/2019 6:33:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message I resign. I make way to many mistakes to competitive and so much for my stupid play experiment. I lined my units up and you just shot them up like a shooting gallery.

Good game although I hardly gave you much of one.

80 7/9/2019 10:38:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message I'll roll it tomorrow but I am very likely going to be resigning very quickly here. If I had two sets of reinforcements I could have deployed forward like I did but as it stands it was a very stupid play and I am toast. You can just destroy everything in the south pacific area and there is not a thing that I can do about it. Good play by you to take advantage but really poor and loose play by me.
79 7/9/2019 9:36:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Message I should have said both Files 023 and 024 are posted.
78 7/9/2019 9:34:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Play Strategy card as Event #60: 3 / East Force: Conquest of Celebes
Activation: South or South Seas HQs only. Logistic Value: 5 Paratroopers: Prior to movement place a Japanese control marker in a hex that is within extended range of an active Japanese air unit if (1) the hex is either unoccupied or is occupied solely by a Dutch regiment; and (2) the hex is not within an unneutralized Allied air ZOI. Eliminate the Dutch regiment.

Message from Japanese:
Well, it took me a while to make this legal (at least I think it's legal) and i'm still not happy with the odds, but here goes:

Play the Event on HQ South for 5+1 Joint Activations:

Bonus: 23rd Air Flot supports Airborne Ops at Hollandia

1) 23rd AirFlot from Sarong via Hollandia to Rabaul, attack Gili-Gili, Battle A
2) 21st AirFlot from Makassar via Sarong & Hollandia to Rabaul, join Battle A
3) CVL Zuiho from Miri to Gasmata, join Battle A
4) CV Soryu from Palau to 4321, attack Kavieng, Battle B
5) (CV Shokaku) from Palau to 3719, join Battle B
6) (CV Akagi) from Palau to 4026, Attack Townsville, Battle C

File 023 is posted. My VASSAL Module crashes whenever I try to drag the Paradrop Counter onto the Map, so Hollandia is only marked with a flag.
77 7/9/2019 6:21:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message I will take my pass for the turn. Back to you.
76 7/9/2019 5:08:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Message Japanese PBM

2) (CV Akagi) to Palau
3) CV Soryu to Palau

75 7/8/2019 10:20:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message PBM

I will send [Miss] to Townsville] and [5AF] to Gili.

Flip Shokaku and Akagi then.

File up, 22, for your PBM.

74 7/8/2019 9:15:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Message Well, 60+ hits looks like that exactly flips all the Allies in the Battle.

Unless you know of some errata of which I am unaware, Junyo is marked as a CV, so I don't think I can shift the hit to it.

Did you want to PBM?
73 7/8/2019 8:25:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message Turn 3 that is. Can't type either.
72 7/8/2019 8:23:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message The way that I play you would think that I have never played. LOL A least this time I waited until turn 2 to make a fatal mistake. LOL
71 7/8/2019 8:20:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Allies Message I think I am screwed. Fatal mistake again on my deployment I sent the US Navy to far forward piecemeal. Just trying something different and it crapped out. For turns 2 and 3 the US Naval has to essentially be parked at PH or someplace else with tons of air all together to avoid this type of thing. In essence hide like coward under air cover. We can play it out for a bit if you want but I assume you are going to go hunting for the US Navy.

1X for J is 64. 1X for A is 24.

Flip Akagi and Shokaku and I assume you will trade the step off of the Junyo to get back the Shokaku step.

66 7/8/2019 6:27:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Message Well, no other set of units will get me to the magic 80+ AF (so that I get at least 2 steps on the dreaded 25% result). So I'm going to play the same card, but rearrange and try for Surprise instead. At least that should draw any intercept card out.

Standby. I'm called to dinner and will post afterwards.
65 7/8/2019 6:22:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Message I must have counted to Admiralty Islands..., it was a toss up as to which to attack. Assuming you'd maximize your reaction, it didn't really matter too much...

Give me a bit to figure it out.

63 7/8/2019 2:30:00 PM May-Aug 1942 Japanese Play Strategy card as Operations #35: 3 / Operation KE: Guadalcanal Evacuation
Choose a Japanese occupied coastal hex. Up to 3 Japanese ground units in the chose hex and all adjacent hexes (that do not have to be coastal hexes) may conduct strategic naval movement (with no amphibious shipping points required) from these hexes to any single friendly port hex. No battles may be initiated. The move is unaffected by Allied air ZOI, however all other conditions for a strategic naval move apply.

21 7/5/2019 8:19:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Play Strategy card as Event #47: 3 / VADM Kondo: Conquest of the Dutch East Indies
Activation: South or South Seas HQs only. Logistic Value: 7 Float Plane Tactics: Japanese CA naval units add 2 to their attack strengths for the duration of this Offensive.

OC: 5 EC: 7

Message from Japanese:
Well, you've definitely upset my apple cart! I had other, big & better, plans for this event. It took me quite a while to finally work out that I just couldn't do what I wanted to do, and then it took me even twice as long to figure out than I might not even be able to do what I HAD to do, unless I took some more risks!

Play the Event on HQ South Seas for 7+1 Joint Activations:

1) CV Akagi from Palau to 2518, attacks Soerabaja, Battle A
2) CVL Ryujo from Davao to 2519, attacks Soerabaja, Battle A
3&4) CA Nachi escorts (35th Army) and 1 ASP (n. 5/7) from Davao to Batavia, Battle B
5) CV Shokaku from Tokyo to 3018, attacks Kendari, Battle C
6) CV Soryu from Tokyo to 3018, attacks Kendari, Battle B
7&8) CA Aoba transports SS Bde from Rabaul to Sarong

Bonus: The +2 Attack Factor on CA Nachi won’t have much impact, I’m afraid…

File 008 is up.

19 7/4/2019 6:40:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Allies Change Japanese Divisions Available in China From 12 to 11
18 7/4/2019 6:13:00 PM Jan-Apr 1942 Japanese Message Well, it certainly is annoying, but given the number of rolls the Jpn have to make on Turn 2, they're going to have some fail. Last card I was fortunate than the "1" came up in the battle where I had 4x the needed hits in attacking strength. These landings are another issue. There just aren't enough ASP to make a guaranteed landing in most cases. I considered landing adjacent to Kendari like on Borneo, but the time activations to also kill (19th LRB) (so they'd be in activation/supply) prohibited it. Loss of the ASP might have saved G'Canal..., we'll have to see....

Japanese PBM:
(35th Army) to Davao
CVL Ryujo to Davao
CV Akagi to Palau

Hey, my VASSAL just crashed, so I can't create a file. Plus we're leaving for the Ball Game and Fireworks. So if you want to play this evening, please make up my PBM file for me, and then you can do your move/pass at your convenience.

Happy Independence Day to the Knoyle's! Long May She Wave!

Same deal no units that can react. Dutch can't hit the Japanese in ground combat so the only thing that is going to prevent the landing at Kendari is a 0 roll for J.
