57 8/19/2019 12:18:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Since the AotP ends their turn in Frederick, everything in Frederick gets absorbed into the AotP and McClellan becomes the second-in-command.
56 8/19/2019 12:15:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message 1 (5=1+4) Union
1 (2=2+0) Confederates

Grrr ... I needed anything but a "1". The Confederate win. We both lose one unit.

54 8/19/2019 11:02:00 AM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #26: 3 / Cotton is King
If played by Union, reduce Confederate SW by 2; if played by Confederate, Confederate immediately receives two SPs in any Blockade Runner port, no more than one SP per port, but more than 1SP per Blockade zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
AotP flags Staunton, the entire army moves to Frederick and picks up 5 SPs, then the AotP (consisting of McDowell, Pope and 12 SPs) attacks Manassas.

Unless you do anything, I believe it would be a Medium Battle (12 SPs Union vs 4 SPs Confederates) with a +4drm Union (+2 leaders, +2 force ratio) versus +0drm Confederates (due to the rule below).

===============

7.44 NON-ARMY FORCES: Only the commanding general’s battle rating is used if the force is not an Army. A Cavalry Brigade’s battle rating may only be used in lieu of another general if the Cavalry general is the sole general in the space.
53 8/19/2019 6:08:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message We still brought 6 units down to Hanover, and dropped off Smith in Richmond.
52 8/19/2019 6:05:00 AM Summer 1861 Confederate Message We leave Stuart behind in Mannasses.
51 8/18/2019 9:32:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message I don't think you can bring three generals in total with you as part of a Corps move.

===========

5.33 CORPS MOVE SIZE LIMITATIONS: A Corps move can move up to six SPs plus one additional general. Cavalry Brigades count as 1 SP against the SP limit and as one general - consequently a Corps that contains a Cavalry Brigade has reached its limit of one additional general.
50 8/17/2019 5:48:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #74: 2 / Political Crisis
The Union player may remove or demote one Union general for no SW cost. The cost for promoting a general with a lower political value still applies. OR remove ANY Union non-commanding general (even second in commands) from the game.

Message from Confederate:

49 8/15/2019 11:17:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Okay, no interception. We leave 1 SP in Strasbourg, move to Franklin WV and leave 1 SP, and then move to Staunton. Confederates turn.

Message from Union:
Actually, I take that back. Having a cavalry present allows you a -2 modifier. Since Bragg is a zero, you need a 1-2. Here is the roll.
47 8/15/2019 11:10:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message After further review, I am not sure anyone except Stuart by himself can intercept because your highest rated general has a zero defensive rating.

I assume you wouldn't want to intercept with just Stuart, so I'll finish my move and you can correct me if I'm wrong on either point.
46 8/15/2019 6:06:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message The AotP leaves 1 SP in Winchester and moves to Strasburg [and plan to continue moving].

Do the Confederates attempt to Intercept? And if so, what is the exact makeup of the force that attempts to intercept?

Message from Union:
I assume Johnston attempts to retreat to Strasburg (as opposed to automatically getting eliminated), so I will roll for the attempt. He needs a 1-2.
44 8/15/2019 5:59:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #45: 3 / Food Shortage
Confederate loses SW equal to current Union blockade value.

Message from Union:
The AotP (McDowell +1 SP) leaves 1 SP in DC, moves to Frederick and picks up Pope +5 (who becomes second-in-command), moves to Harpers Ferry and picks up +4 SPs (leaving Buell +1 behind in Harpers Ferry ), and then the AotP (consisting of McDowell +Pope +10 SP) attack Winchester. Note if the Confederates are unable to retreat, the 10-1 force ratio causes an overrun which would automatically eliminate the Confederate SP and send Johnston to the Turn Track.
43 8/14/2019 4:53:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message A. Johnston survives and goes to the Turn Track.

Note Forts St. Philip/Jackson is now officially captured because it was just flagged by the Union. This means the Confederates deduct 1 SW and another 3 SW for changing fortunes (down to 96-) and the Union player gains 1 SW and another 2 SW for changing fortunes (up to 103+).

STEP 2: Determine State Control

STEP 3: War Weariness and Guilt penalties

17 8/9/2019 12:29:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message Small Battle (1 SP Confederates vs 1 SP Union) with a +0drm Confederates versus +0drm Union.

1 (5=5+0) Confederates
1 (3=3+0) Union

The battle results in a tie with both sides being eliminated; however Rule 7.34 (shown below) states that in case of ties involving no asterisk, both sides retain 1 SP but the attacker is the loser. Hence, Price +1 have to retreat back to Nacogdoches TX from where they attacked.

======================

7.34 WHEN BOTH SIDES ARE ELIMINATED: In small and medium battles it is possible for both sides to be eliminated. In this situation the side that inflicts the larger CRT result is the winner and retains 1 SP despite the losses shown by the CRT. A CRT asterisk result is “larger” than a non-asterisk result of the same value and the attacker wins and retains 1 SP. In case of ties involving no asterisk, both sides retain 1 SP, but the attacker is the loser.

8 8/7/2019 6:05:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #19: 1 / Belmont
Either player may move up to two infantry SPs from the same space as if led by a General. This move is a Corps move and may enter enemy controlled spaces because the SPs are moving as if they are led by a general.

Message from Confederate:

7 8/6/2019 10:37:00 AM Spring 1861 Union Message Small Battle (2 SPs Union vs 0 SPs Confederates) with a +4drm Union (+4 attacking ungarrisoned fort) versus +2drm Confederates (+2 fort).

1* (9=5+4) Union
1 (6=4+2) Confederates

The Union loses one unit but successfully takes the space. Note that the Union does not technically have control over the fort yet since we do not have a PC marker in the space yet.

================
Rule 6.81 Forts:
An ungarrisoned fort or coastal fort attacked by Amphibious Assault has a nominal strength of 0 SPs for combat calculation purposes, and automatically loses all ties in combat if the attacker has any surviving SPs after losses are taken. The attacker always receives a +4 force ratio DRM when attacking an ungarrisoned fort.
