543 9/18/2019 9:52:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Message Sekihagara at Yucata works very well. But think it is the only wargame there. I'm leaving now. Let's start with Napoleon by Vassal. Come back in the evening if have time. If not tomorrow..
542 9/18/2019 9:47:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Ah, nice. I added you to my 'geekbuddies', as they are called.
The book about the Wilderness War is Crucible of War: https://www.amazon.com/Crucible-War-British-America-1754-1766/dp/0375706364 You read my game comments ;-) I've read Wedgewood too (very good) and played Thirty years War (no so good), both a long time ago.

Sekigahara? Ah, played that a couple of times years ago. Liked it. Didn't know you could play it online. Does it function well?

LOTR never played. I'm not so into fanatasy, I'm affraid.

Blockgame on vassal, excellent! Rommel in the Desert is amazing, an it's agame I definitely want to get back to, but let's start maybe with Napoleon: it's much simpler, faster, but great fun. If okay with you of course.

541 9/18/2019 9:44:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Message P.S. It is interesting to read about our previously played games. Each game like like a history. May be one day i'll write a report too.
I'll have a heavy days till Monday. So, little time to play. But think will be able to make 2-3 moves per day.

540 9/18/2019 9:36:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Message It's me
https://boardgamegeek.com/user/viv1981
No any activity on BGG due to lack of time.
I have vassal and know how use it.
I'd also like to play blockgames but before i discovered ACTs there was no possibility to play as it is very difficult to find a phisical opponent. Now I play LOTR Confrontation on ACTS (i think about 10 games played, me for Dark). You recomended Julius Cesar, so I tried it at Paronglans and still play 1 move/day.
I'd like to try Maria one day (see it in your games).
Oh, i play Sekigahara at Yucata.
Bonaparte at Marengo is an interesting game i also have intention to try (even solo as there is an interesting solo variant on BGG).
So, ready to play Rommel or Napoleon.
BTW, i also like reading (mostly history). And am curious to ask what book of 800 pages did you read about Wilderness war? Probably i'll read it too. After reading rules of Musket and Pike I was interesting in 30 year war and read Wedgwood's 30 year book.
So, if you want, we may play a blockgame by Vassal.
539 9/18/2019 8:25:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message You came reasonably close to losing Scipio A and 10 cu's to a DE. That would have been a gamechanger. But going after Hannibal is certainly a valid strategy, and it worked, so what do I know.

New game? Yes!

Okay, a few questions:
-there are several blockgames I'ld like to play: Napoleon: Waterloo Campaign, Rommel in the Desert, Bobby Lee, Liberty... if you're interested and have/ use Vassal in conjunction with Dropbox we could try. Otherwise I'll look for an opponent on BGG.
-do you have an account on BG? You'll find me as 'Karel' (the name of a cat I once had) https://boardgamegeek.com/user/Karel/geekstuff
And if you look closely you'll even find a game report of all the games we played so far ;-)

538 9/18/2019 8:02:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Message Thank you! Everything I know in this game you taught me. Yes, I wanted to win and tried. But... This game was too unfair to you. Very bad luck (not only with Hannibal who sank). The last turn I had all cards you may dream. And... I didn't believe I'll win the game till the last turn when I saw the hand. So, it is a lucky win, I feel. If Hannibal din not sink, it would be quite different game. So, thank you for the game. One more?
P.S. Why was it risky to follow Hannibal?
537 9/18/2019 6:20:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message I can't beat that. It's over, Carthage sues for peace.
Well played. Attrition/ Mesenger intercepted/ Bad weather and you making excellent use of them, meant that I was always behind the facts in this game, constantly responding to events and never taking the initiative.
You played almost flawless from my perspective, the only thing I have doubts about is you going after Hannibal with Africanus: you took a risk there that wasn't necessary, I think. But it turned out okay, so never mind. anyway, your first vistory, I'm sure many will follow. Hurray!
